First time I traveled in the kandy morning intercity was way back in 1990 and at that time, it only stopped at peradeniya. Those days no 3rd class carriages were available and left Colombo at 6:55 and arrived at Kandy sharp at 9:30 most of the days. It started to stop at Gampaha after the 1994 elections. It’s sad the current state of the train
95% of the time, this train runs to the scheduled time. This particular day, there was a signal failure in Peradeniya and it was halted there for a long time, thats what caused the delay. Unless there is a signal malfunction, engine breakdown or wheel slipping it reaches Kandy on time.

I have traveled on this train for a long time and usually, it doesn't get late for more than 10-15 minutes. I guess it's an unusual issue this time though...
Yes quite true, when I travelled on it the latest it got was 22 minutes. This day, my aunt came to Kandy in the ICE and she said that it had stopped in Peradeniya for a long time... On the 28th of December it arrived at 12:30 PM, almost 3 hours late due to an engine breakdown
So u make videos on srilankan railways?? I would suggest u to make a video on list of all diesel and electric locomotives including EMUs available there. It will be really informative.
I have made a video on that a few years ago, you can find in detailed videos about SL engines on my channel ru-vid.com/group/PLr29emMDimd7nUtmTbn94xBXCefijyZdR
The last coach is the dummy car, it borrows all the resources from the maim powercar infront. The cab is just there to do the normal functions like driving, horning etc...
First major train accidents was in 1865 in Sri Lanka was on 14th January 1865 between Hunupitya Enderamull called Gongithota and Ragama Station it was a labour wage day and wage pay Trolley was parked on the rail Track New rail line needed more filling with ballast and 16 wagons with engine and collide against the parked Trolley Then 16 wagon train got derailed and fell into the gongithota marshy water wet land got drowned with 32 people including the residents of Horape Ragama in 1865 Railway company started in 1864 in Ceylon Colombo to Ambepussa Sarath Dassanaike Sources say it had many versions train with 1
one and only .most best better than Indian and Chinese S classes power sets.Anuradhapura peoples like this intercity train that earlier ran more than 27 years .
Agreed, Class M6 is a very efficient. Class S11 is already falling apart at 12 years of service. Class M6 is 43 years old and still running with very less inconvenience. You can see the quality of the old engines such as M2 and M6
Comfort wise Class S14 is better, yes. But, 1009/1010 ICE's will remain to be hauled by Class M6 engine because all the S14 sets are used for turns. 09/10 ICE's won't run with 2 AFC compartments, but 4. The 3 sets with 4 AFC compartments are all used for turns. Class M6 is much more efficient than S14. I prefer 09/10 ICE to continue to be hauled by beautiful M6 🤩😍
