I bought one of these a couple of years ago. For the first time, I just tried measuring the mains voltage, only to find that selection doesn't work! So much Chinese stuff I'm forced to buy (no alternative) is crap.
Thanks for this... But let me ask you this: the manual and the spec sheet say that the 1041 has four ranges for capistance; 5nf, 500uf, 5mf and 50mf. That's a lot of gaps there, or its a heck of a lot of range to cover in each setting, isn't it? Are there more ranges or something?
Very well done and informative, this has helped me to decide on the bench meter I want for work. This on seems like it has a good balance of options to value. Will not replace my Fluke 289 for “on the floor” troubleshooting, but it will be nice to have an “always on/ready” meter for extended bench top troubleshooting
I would go with the Q10 assuming you're just on an electronics bench and not in need of better protection for high voltage work. The Q10 is also true RMS, and the 17B+ is an averaging meter, so your AC voltage readings will be off by roughly 11% on the 17B+. I honestly haven't been that impressed with my 17B+ overall - it's performance has been a bit lackluster. That also why I don't feature it much on the channel.
The part you dismissed is to push the pin out to change out the backstop. Please at least try to to understand the product before posting a "review". We don't need any more lazy " reviews".
Bonjour, I am a French and I have no training in electricty, electronics, and so forth. But I have a house where I setup electric lines, and since it's in wood I need to check a minimum parameters like "it this plug really on earth (I dont' speak of myself). SO i bought this peakmeter pm233d thing at random which is delivered with a manual I mostly don't understand... and here you are, with video of yours so useful for me ! Thanks a lot ! :)
Do measure ac voltage in more than +10v V multimeter from dc V source, HT118A voltage display goes crazy and fails in this situation, but reconnecting multimeter to mv ac works.
It's likely a software or firmware issue. This and the HT118A are the only two I've tested that have that problem. Everything else I have tested measures the frequency, voltage and duty cycle correctly.
I have 2 pieces of HT118A, they are 100% identical, about 1 year production date difference. Not heard about firmware update for cheap measurement equipment. Measuring mixed voltage/signal makes the difference visible between pricey and cheap equipment. Some cheap meters show high voltage results even one probe not connected.
Just found your great review on this meter today and now I am so tempted to put this one on my bench. It's now sold on Aliexpress for over $600!! Just wanted to confirm those that did purchase this unit are still happy with their investment, it'll help me make a decision. Amazon has it for around $300 at the moment.
Yes, it is still on my bench and as solid as ever. I don't think you're going to find a UT8804N version anymore, but rather the UT8804E - it's the same meter, however.

Excelente video!!, yo compre en el 2022 via Aliexpress un multímetro Habotest ht118A, el cual por unos día deje de usar y las pilas se sulfataron pero no alcanzaron a derramar liquido, lo destape limpie y no encendió mas!!! plata tirada y eso que lo recomendaban como bueno!!!. Le testie todos los componentes y los único que me dan corto son 2 transistores smd Y1 q1 y q2, si mal no recuerdo. Los reemplace pero amago a encender le realiza la calibración como indican por ahí pero arroja erro "0" y no encuentro data sobre eso. Una verdadera lastima porque tiene linda pinta y funciones. Excellent video!!, I bought a Habotest ht118A multimeter in 2022 via Aliexpress, which I stopped using for a few days and the batteries leaked but they did not manage to spill liquid, I uncovered it, cleaned it and it did not increase anymore!!! wasted money and they recommended it as good!!! I tested all the components and the only ones that give me a short are 2 smd transistors Y1 q1 and q2, if I remember correctly. I replaced them but tried to turn it on, it performs the calibration as indicated there but it returns an error "0" and does not find data on that. A real last one because it has nice looks and functions.
Good overall review of the pistol. I does look, to me, that when you are measuring the trigger pull weight, you might be pulling from a bit to high on the trigger.
I probably was, having looked at the video - it didn't help that I was having to do all that standing behind a tripod without bumping into it. The bottom line is the single action is a lot cleaner. The nice thing about the DA however, is you really have to mean it to pull the trigger, so I consider that a safety feature of sorts - I don't carry it that way, but it's a good option if one hates thumb safeties.

Figured I'd chime in again. Just wanted you to know I just tonight ordered one from Buds Gun shop and your video helped me come to that decision, so thanks well done and fully informative. From the time the TH40 started to peak my interest and now I have already noticed them becoming less available, I think that trend will continue and worsen into the new year so I pulled the trigger (pun intended) 😁.
I currently own the Taurus th9 and I also own the sd40ve. I love my th9 it feels better in my hands than the g3. I only paid $275.00 from my local pawnshop used in excellent condition. I haven’t shot it yet but I tested it manually by racking rounds out of the magazine. It feeds good. I can’t wait to shoot mine and I also can conceal carry it with my permit with no problem. It's an old single action revolver style grip that just so happens to work best for me with autoloaders. Tea cup grip just doesn't have enough control over muzzle flip, and I hate the tacticool grip for several reasons, most notably in the sense that it does NOT agree with the contour of my hands.
@@Sui778understood. I'm kind of the same mindset as you. I was always told my support hand should be locking down my firing hand, keeping all digits away from controls. That's why you see a lot of these kids getting failure for slides to stay locked open after the last round because their thumbs are tripping it. And then they blame the weapon 😂.
I decided to order a UNI-T UT8805E. Hope it is responsive. I watched videos on Siglent, OWON and Rigol 51/2 digit DMMs as well as 4 1/2 and 6 1/2 DMMs. The OWON seemed good per another reviewer. Siglent seemed to be less responsive to get high accuracy. With this level DMM I wonder about warranty support. Hopefully I won't need to find out. My only DMM is a Fluke 87 that I have had since about 1996, purchased to do a job in India. It still works but I have never checked calibration. I don't have access to calibrated instruments either. So, I was interested in the DMM Standard you reviewed. I was also looking at the BRT LB02A process calibrator. Thanks for the details you go into! Update for completeness: received the UT8805E - 3 days to ship. Using a LB02A process calibrator current to 20ma and DCV to 11V matches. My 25 year old Fluke87 matches as well. Resistors (0.1%) 56, 2K and 33.1K match. I ordered a DMMCheckPlus with all options. Don't know how long it takes to ship. On the website it shows 250 burn-in so if they assemble per order it will take a while. The calibration values would be taken after burn-in. So, after a very brief look, I like the UT8805E very much except the fan is loud. Hope the rack helps, otherwise it will need a new fan. The sppd choices of slow, medium and fast work well but medium seems to just integrate to the value and updates at about the slow rate. Only on fast does the rightmost 5th digit bounce - on the LB02A. It works! The leads are soft - nice. The alligator leads suck -- the shroud on the black lead prevents full closure. It works and is a nice meter.
Appreciate the comments. The 8805E is pretty much a similar interface although it's a bit of a tradeoff of which unit is better than the other. In the 8804N's favor - it is light years ahead of the 8805E in capacitance and frequency ranges; also it will light up and measure voltage on any LED where the 8805E will not measure anything above 2V. On the other hand the 8805E is more accurate on voltage and it light years ahead in readings per second and also has a lot of additional connectivity. It also will do 4-point measurements which the 8804N can't. Neither of these meters are that accurate on capacitance (as is the case with pretty much all non-LCR meters). They get the job done but wouldn't be useful for pinpoint accuracy that way. I considered getting an 8805E but the 8804N has been a workhorse for me and it does everything I need it to do and then some - just couldn't justify the expense. The warranty with any Chinese-made product is going to be a risk but mine has been rock solid for over two years now. In regard to the other brands you mentioned - Rigols are overpriced, Siglents are good meters but the interface on them isn't that great and I don't care much for OWON meters - they have the functionality (when they work) but the interface is very buggy (even when it works). I honestly cannot recommend OWON to anyone as a primary meter.
I think you need to learn how to shoot "properly grip" a gun before you can give honest feedback. Your "both people" grip offers no muzzle control and you are basically limp wristing the gun. Causing the malfunctions.
BS - SCCY identified it as a manufacturing defect - and the replacement they sent me hasn't had a single malfunction and I haven't changed a thing. It has NOTHING to do with my grip.
I turned on the temperature gauge when I plugged the thermometer wire into the meter and it seemed to jump very wildly. Please tell me what's wrong. The meter was just purchased.
great test, i love my ol 118A will now buy a new one for my Brother to compare it to my 2y old model.. have newest 118a any improvments/extras over old ones? would hate if new 118a has permanent Backlight..
There are a couple of differences between the newer and older units - first, the backlight will stay on indefinitely when you turn it on, but it can be toggled back off so you're not stuck with it being on all the time. The older version would turn itself off after 15-20 seconds, no matter what. The other difference is in voltage mode the newer version defaults to DC voltage rather than AC voltage when switching to that mode (guessing the same is true of the current mode as well). Other than that - no differences really, at least that I know of.
great detailed review, good work. impressive innovative meter, display is great, but i keep my good bulky HT118A for 5 reasons, 1. MicroA 2. pF 3. B/W display for using it daily for hours.. 4. uses 2 AA battery i think 5. STAND. 118a CON is obviously Size/weight and "only" 6000RMS.. This compact smart meter could be a great secondary for mobile use, in the car, outdoors, garden, garage. but 118a remains the oldschool daily stationary workhorse..34:35 boiling water best temp test
Perhaps it also wanted to compare the speed of reading values at Low, Med or High settings. There are definitely reading speed differences in the settings. Tony Albus already states in his review that the measurement speed is much better if you set the expected base value. It's a pity that you don't show the reading speed at different settings of the converter and the reading speed. It would be a better demonstration than still looking for the exact measurement value.

Do you have the battery seated in the terminals securely? I have found on some of these models that use 9V batteries that they sometimes don't want to connect to the terminals.
