It’s exactly why you don’t wish to be associated with “Black“ Americans because you put Spaniards and Eurocentric standards on a pedestal. Moreover, it doesn’t hurt that you wish to separate your identity from Haitians - who have been destabilized by the West for defying them. I’m sorry that I don’t see that way as an outsider. In fact, Puerto Ricans, who are less “Black(especially on the surface)”: acknowledge their “Black” blood more than actual Dominicans. So much so that when light-skinned Ricans came to the US, they intermingled with “Black” people because their plight was similar(Ricans have been a colony for 531 years). But anyway, everyone has their opinion and way of thinking.
