I LOVE the Atelier series and I too lament how hard it is to find other people who are into it. This show doesn't really have a particularly similar tone, but I love them both for very different reasons, and I can certainly understand why this show brings Atelier to mind. Hope you have/had a great time with the show!

Late to this, but it's not that freckles are "ugly". They are a sign of the lowborn, as they are caused by sun damage. Having freckles means you work outdoors.

Pretty late, but the reason Fuyou still acted all creepy and such is to become as undesirable/unsuitable as possible. Like Maomao said, the emperor could easily change his mind about the reward when he realizes that he's giving away a good woman simply because she tripped and fell. That said, I'm pretty sure Jinshi and the emperor knew about them and just played along. He's definitely not a fool at least and we all know Jinshi is pretty sharp about hese things.
It was not her 3 friends that looked down on him but some other girls. Nowa the shorty with red highlights and lollipops immediately slid into Marin's orbit and that included Wakana. The other girl (not called by name out loud) was afraid Marin was ignoring Wakana's boundaries. Marin works as a model. In episode one she and Nowa were at the hairstylist when the sleazebag hit on her after working a gig. In this episode random girls besides gossiping about them dating also gossip about her being a model. Model job also explains the confidence,

This isn't a show you need to worry about "theorizing" or bother with putting characters into tropes. The show encourages you to be in the moment with it's characters and what you want or need to know it will give you when the correct time comes. Do get to feeling better and enjoy the journey :)
They do a great job with the music as well… that choral rising singing while showing Himmel put the flower crown on Frieren and saying he’d like to show her the blue moon weed flowers with her nonchalant promise that maybe they will one day, then her seeing the flowers now without him… it really hits you hard. It’s so bittersweet.
The opening credits song for eps 1 - 16 is "Yuusha" (Brave) by the group YOASOBI. The composer of the background music during the eps and for the ending credits song, is, well, gold star for your guess.

The story and characters are so well written and voiced that it almost brings tears to my eyes every episode. Then the music starts up and I'm an absolute mess 😂

Something to bear in mind is that one if the symptoms that you can get from heavy metal lead poisoning is degraded mental state, including paranoia. Combined with the stress of being physically sick with a dying baby Lihua's behaviour in episode 1 becomes much more understandable.
Like the other comment, it was Lady Lihua's lady-in-waiting who pushed the flower branch with note off the window. And this lady-in-waiting will re-appear in the future. Not in this season, but the next one. There will be a lot more to the whole powder poison story.
Thanks for the reaction! This is a great series you'll enjoy. It's interesting to see people react to Frieren's fifty year montage and sharing the thought "that was fast." Makes the viewer feel exactly how Frieren felt. Reinforced with mentioning the return of the Era meteor shower, it's really a good blend of storytelling through writing and visual.
It's hinted quite heavily, maybe more so in the manga, that the day Gojou first saw a hina doll was the same day they buried his parents. My guess is his obsession with them was born during an intensely traumatic time, so it kinda makes sense it grew into something that seems more "unhealthy". At the same time, though, I don't think the show wants us to think it's not particularly healthy or anything, I think it's just showing us all these different nerds who are totally into the stuff they like!
…Yeah, sure, I’ll watch one more reaction video for this episode. It’s great. :D To clear up the confusion about episode 1’s events: We saw one of Lihua’s ladies-in-waiting discard the flower; Lihua herself never even saw the message. And Gyokuyou later says she tried to tell Lihua, but Lihua wouldn’t listen. So I guess now Lihua has to carry the weight of knowing if she’d believed Gyokuyou, her son might still be alive. Poor woman. At least she’s got a new way to get the emperor into her bed!
There always those womens who pretending to follow the emperor or higher-up orders but at their back,they acts like evil womens.......Thank goodness Maomao give a piece of wrath there
Maomao is one of my favorite characters in anime. Not just her cute chibi neko form when she gets excited by her special interest, but also her intelligence, her compassion, her resourcefulness... She's so cool. She also has some ace vibes, which is not often represented in media. I also have a soft spot for Xiaolan, her laundry girl friend and literally the best source for gossip in the whole rear palace.
yes! there’s been a focus on Frieren and The Apothecary Diaries recently (burnt the candle at both ends by watching too many animes 😭) but I have another ep ready to edit :)
