Not really sure I agree with him presenting half of the game being the Batmobile as fact. The specific measurement of time in the Batmobile doesn’t really matter - if an experience is unenjoyable enough, its going to feel like it lasted a lot longer looking back on it. Unless he said ‘half of this game is literally the batmobile’ I don’t really think his Batmobile criticism is that off
For me what was annoying is when he said he didn't finish the game and wasn't a batman fan. Like why are you reviewing it if you didn't finish it or aren't a fan of the series or character? Also most of his complaints were just user error not the game.
Deathstroke and Mr freeze both made you feel like you were batman fighting one of his enemies. I hope any future game can expand on these concepts one day
Lol I've never thought any batsuit gave Bruce sex appeal it shows the armour saying what points what hehe this too was in other arkham games batman never been known as a porn game lol and ark Knight should have alround better combat + gadgets ie evolving each game I think mayo didn't know how to use gadgets in combat properly hehe
The Batman suit up scene is not meant to be sexual in any way, but if he wants to go down that road, I would argue it’s actually less sexual than the other games. Arkham knight’s Batsuit is much more armored than the other games so you can’t see Batman’s giant muscles through the suit like you can in the other games. He’s literally putting on thicker clothing than the last game that now hides more of his physique, that’s like the complete opposite of sexual.
I like to think that there are two kinds of criticism. 1) this could be better than it is, and 2) this should be different. The first respects what the work appears to be trying to accomplish, and how it fails to achieve its goals. The second is more subjective, deciding what the work should be doing instead of what it did. "The Dark Knight Rises didn't quite get its thematic points across," vs "The Dark Knight Rises should have made different points." But I think there's actually a third kind, which comes down to, "Me me me!" "The Dark Knight Rises should have been about the Riddler, because I love the Riddler." Underthemayo's criticism seems to fall into theis third category. Criticism isn't exactly an art, but it explores our relationship with it, and so it requires a certain amount of self-reflection. When there's zero self-reflection, only the knee-jerk reaction, that "hot-take" is inevitably treated as an objective observation. Some of Underthemayo's reactions weren't without cause. But legitimate or not, his total disinterest in exploring why he had these reactions led to a comically self-indulgent rant, dismissing the entire game. It's like dismissing the whole of The Dark Knight, every plot point, performance, costume, and effect because you didn't like Christian Bale's voice. To be completely candid, I had a lot of the same reactions to Arkham Knight that Underthemayo did, at least on first playthrough. The suiting up scene is undoubtedly placed in an awkward moment, which kills the pacing of the game's first chapter. Compare the new suit's introduction to the dramatic introduction of the Batmobile, which utilizes its "Batman porn" moment to magnificent effect. I think the game made a couple of decisions like this. It presents an insurmountable barrier to an urgent problem, stopping progress. It then introduces a new game function as the challenge's solution. But wait, before you overcome this urgent problem, take 20 minutes to run a tutorial. Learning about the Batmobile's tank function did this, leaving Batman and Ivy pinned behind a door with tanks pointed out them while you learn the basics of tank combat via stimulation. It's not a huge issue, but it somewhat breaks the sense of urgency. The story is sacrificed in service of the game's game-ness. When a little reshuffling of events would have avoided that conflict. In the same way, the leisurely suit-up completely contradicts the urgency of having to rescue hostages. Had it taken place in Wayne Tower, as it did when the cut-scene was presented in the original trailer for the game, it would have been perfect. But as a long, distracting pause while hostages stand inches from death, it undeniably creates a conflict of emotion for the player. It seems obvious that the suit-up was cut and pasted. Its mood didn't quite fit the moment. Arkham knight is full of issues like this. The Batmobile's tank battles feel like an undercooked system that's overused, but that's not a deal-breaker. The Jason plotline was half-baked and sloppy, but again, not a deal-breaker. The Harley sequence broke the pacing of the game as well, feeling like a annoying digression as the story was picking up momentum. It should have come up earlier in the game. Deal breaker? Not even close. It was still a great sequence. As you say, Underthemayo's reaction is comically inappropriate to the problem. Do these foibles detract from the game experience? Yeah, of course they do. But do they ruin the game? Only if you ignore everything that's good about it. And there's just so much. I don't know about this dude, but I signed up to Arkham Knight for 50 hours of Batman porn. I didn't get that, of course. I got 500 hours. And I loved... most of it. Because I didn't let the parts that annoyed me spoil the parts that's frankly magnificent. To me, Underthemayo's rant just feels like an immature demand for attention, like a small child watching adults doing something truly impressive, and innocently going through the motions, hoping for the same applause. RU-vid is full of young people watching excellent, thoughtful review videos, and thinking, "I can do that. I have opinions too!" They have no idea what it means to analyze things critically, anymore than they know how to make a movie by watching one. But that's the nature of youth. Hopefully, they'll go to college, or just learn the art of self-reflection, and eventually learn that their knee-jerk reactions aren't actual, valuable commentary, but just the raw material on which to build real thoughts. That's my hope for Underthemayo. Or else he'll get angry that "nobody gets me" and eventually stop wasting everyone's time. Either way is fine.

I still feel like Titan Jonkler woud've been a killer boss as a stealth encounter using his original concept art design. It could've easily been a genuinely frightening encounter
I swear Mayo has no other personality outside of dumping all over games people like and sucking Doom Eternal's wiener at every given opportunity. At this point I'm pretty sure he's just ragebaiting now since he recently did a video claiming Origins is the best in the series.
I dont really get Mayo every game that isnt doom eternal or about 30 years old he has serious problems with. To the point where his reviews mostly point out how much of the games he just actively avoids. Dont know why he doesnt just review retro games or something.
Mayo was definitely playing on easy mode in knight and normal in city since I played on hard mode in both games and only struggled in knight ‘Never mind the hostage’ never mind batman taking down 2 soldiers then calling in the suit FOR THE HOSTAGE 🤦♀️
In some part of the video, Under the Mayo said he is not that into the Batman Mythology, which was my position at first too. Knight was my first Arkham game, funnily enough, and me not being into the Batman lore, therefore not knowing about Red Hood, made the Arkham Knight twist work for me. It pains me so much that someone who also could have been surprised by it decided to not even coming close to finding out
@@MattTGMI mean it's not like I'm struggling and dying all the time, I just want to do the cool stuff I see, which I know is probably people playing a level repeatedly until they know every possible situation, but I want to just do that on the fly lol.
10:47 this take from mayo is even MORE hypocritical because he says he likes City despite that game having almost the exact same scene and situation to this. The hostages or catwoman need to be saved, but we gotta suit up to do so. Mayo’s worse than the game journalists.

I’m not a huge fan of the character side of Arkham games but I love game play play I think the Arkham series is a very simple look into the Batman and his character especially emotionally
I also think Gotham knights has the best CHARACTERIZATION of the batfamily they flow well and feel like the characters from the books ESPECIALLY BRUCE he actually feels like a good dad unlike the comics bruce Bruce in GK feels like a Batman I’d like but Arkham gives me and proves that he’s kinda just cold which I’ve never liked in Batman comics but other than that my problems with the game are just that I’m bad….except for time drake WHO EVER MADE TIM DRAKE THE WAY THE DID IN ARKHAM NEEDS TO BE STOPPED cause omg he sucks he doesn’t feel like Tim he feels like dick Grayson but bald and no ass unlike every other character who is summarized water downed versions of their comic counter part tim feels like a fan made character in the worst way possible
Personally I don’t have much problem with what the game does, it’s what it doesn’t do that always bugged me, no good bosses like Poison Ivy from Asylum, like Freeze fron City or Deathstroke from Origins, hell even Blackgate has a couple boss highlights such as Deadshot and Catwoman, I realize Arkham Knight has a few boss “scenarios” as I’ll call them, but none ever truly felt like a boss battle I guess….i would’ve liked a couple good one-on-one duels with Jason Todd, Azrael, and someone who could’ve gave a nice 1-1 predator battle similar to Mr. Freeze…..there’s no Batcave, no other playable characters besides Batman have more than a few minutes of playtime in the main story, no martial artist enemy types from Origins (I for one miss those lol)…..I can go on, but ultimately what the game DOES do is great, it just missed a lot of opportunities as well…..still a great game, thankfully the overused Batmobile DOES feel great to drive and battle with
I remember one time I decided to give a game I hated way too many chances. I finished it and spent like a year thinking about it, wondering why people liked it, despite all the flaws. Then I played it again when a DLC came out. And I loved it. That game is called Crosscode, and I don't regret finishing it while mostly hating it the first time. And I wasn't even going to make videos about it! The least he could do is finish it if he's gonna be so assured in his opinions.
idk why people are giving the troll more exposure, he’s obviously just a rage baiting, new-age clickbait account. all you have to do is say “thing that the majority of people love” is really bad and so many people fall for the bait. i guarantee this clown is one of those “even bad exposure is good exposure” types and while it’s funny to dunk on the troll, you’re giving it what it wants.
Oh i remember this guy. About a year ago or so i think he had a really shitty take on a stylish shooter called ultrakill. His take was so bad and his gameplay so stupid that the speedrunning community for the game named a meme category after him where they only utilize the starting revolver as mayo decided to make his own gameplay as miserable as possible by not engaging with all the weapons.
