It was a clearly rushed/badly-managed game, it was intended to be a PSP game at the beginning but was then moved over, and may have suffered from that. I think they felt the same which is why the sequel is such a turn around and fixes a lot of crap. Atlus in general does that where they will use the first game of a spinoff to test the waters (even Persona 1 is that type of thing) and see what works and what doesn't, and then the sequels are used to fix up that base and make it better. At least that's what I tell myself when I skip a few games in mainline, Persona, even the spinoffs. Atlus is just good at making good sequels to already-decent games, to make them better, very cool thing about the company IMO but it turns off early adopters.

This theme is one of the most hype themes I've heard in any videogame. It's a shame that this game is so underrated. Why won't ATLUS remake it? 😭 They put Raidou in the Nocturne remake, yet still didnt come back to this game. 💀
The Raidou games and music are the most underrated in Megaten imo. People don't bother to get into due to mixed reception or availability. Biggest hang up for remake is probably the game setting (Imperial Japan) affecting sales in Asian market.
