in hiway use c-13 has not been popular--i have one that has a million and 200,000 miles--only replaced one injector in all those miles--also lead the 65 truck fleet in fuel mileage--also since it is a lighter motor in a light truck i lead all vehicles in revenue--hopefully we can find a way to duplicate the new motor features in a old c-13--i think i can get close
with all due respect to LA county and orange county we know u guys will be switching over to EV vehicles but what bout people who cant afford to switch over to a brand new EV vehicle not trying to sound rude or cruel against anyone but no i dont agree to this especially trash trucks going all alectric is a dumb idea lol i mean why are we doing this lets keep it real

A planetary gearset with a dog clutch in 1st gear and a clutch pack for 2nd would be a lot more compact, durable, simple, and still have the same efficiency in top gear and be able to deliver torque during shifts.
I absolutely love the innovation!!! This is indeed clever. However, durability, reliability, and torque capacity are huge questions here. But again kudos on the creativity. Well done.
Assuming I am retro-fitting an old car, can this mount in place of the existing trans? That would seem easier than replacing the rear axle. If it mounts in place of an existing rear-end, it would require modification of the trunk (not a problem - I love cutting cars up!) But there is the cost of the new rear axle/brakes/hubs to consider. Lastly, will a common motor (Netgain HyPer 9, for ex.) mount to this trans?
Poor design, why have a crown and pinion ? Electric wheel with planetary hubs, less weight, less monkey motion. Perfect example of stuck in a rut design.
Torque in this case is transmitted by tooth to tooth contact, that total torque only has a fixed area of tooth to travel through. Having an Electric motor directly driving the Sun gear eliminates the 90 degree turn that torque has to pass through and eliminates the need for a spider gear set and all the mass needed to contain those gear sets. planetary hubs are always used in high wheel torque hubs @@andrxito
Why hasn't LNG caught on in the class 8 trucking industry? I drove a Pete with a Cummins LNG engine. It had a lot of bugs. I don't know why the environmental people are against LNG, certainly better than diesel.

In addition the ratio of the transmission is affected by the speed and load of the vehicle. So, with the aid of speed sensors on all the components of the transmission, the speed of the vehicle, position of the accelerator and a kick-down switch - all that is needed to control the whole system is a computer. There is no actual gear selector for the driver to operate, however a manual mode would be appropriate where the driver has a 'balance' control knob that manually controls the proportion of power/torque to each motor and therefore can choose any ratio desired for the driving situation. An added enhancement could be added to the transmission by having a traditional planetary overdrive attached to each of the motors to enhance the rev range of each motor. This would enable the provision of extra modes like economy mode/sports mode and improve the kick-down mode by inputting more revs when the gearbox is in an extremely low ratio during kick-down operation. Having this type of transmission would improve acceleration and range of the vehicle allowing for a smaller battery pack/lighter weight leading to cost savings and simpler manufacturing. I think this is a brilliant design for a rather lightweight vehicle. With heavyweight or high performance application, my concern is that would the chain jump off the gear like bicycles sometimes do? Plus, it only offers two gears. But this definitely looks promising for the EVs in the near future! I’d love to drive an EV with a transmission so the motor doesn’t have to rev so high when driving in high speed.

A Tesla is a fully electric car, but it’s possible some of the charging stations use fossil fuels to be powered. Hyliion just brings the fuel generator on the truck so technically the drivetrain is powered exclusively by electricity. I see what you mean though.
