Australia's not intelligent enough to appreciate Kevin Rudd in adequate proportion. No surprise, considering we're a nation renowned for being so easy going. It's a blessing and simultaneously a curse.
Thank you Stan, Non-Indigenous Australians need to know your history and have respect for your knowledge and you Lore and way of living. So sad your way of life was not replicated so that we would not harm the country, land, flora and fauna. I am studying and learning so much at Curtin University, on-line in doing creative language, in particular, culture to cultures. The more I am learning the more I am becoming disillusioned with what the government are doing. The appear to be wanting changes, but the public are still being tricked into listening to rumours to invoke fear so that these changes will never occur. Last year we were encouraged to say 'YES', but again most people didn't understand what the vote was for. This was to give the Indigenous people and Torres Strait Islander people a 'voice'. This has also been done by Lang Hancock and Gina Hancock. Many more untruths have been told to Non-Indigenous people. It is understandable why the United Nations have condemned Australia. A Treaty would be a good start to have 'healing' for all Indigenous people. Thank you Grant for all your hard work. I applaud you for writing a dictionary for your Wurudgeri language. Education will hopefully allow the many Indigenous languages to stay alive, and so the culture stay alive.
Crabb is so over-rated. Issues like Turnbull explains at 1:00:00 (how the far right has taken over conservative parties here and in the US (and UK as I write this)) are lost on her. Turnbulls prediction (1:07:00) that a 'devastating electoral defeat' would change them did not come to pass. The broad currents of politics are of no interest to her, she prefers the daily horse race. She CERTAINLY will never discuss the reprehensible Rupert Murdoch, who destroys positive change, and careers just for fun. Turnbull is practically begging her to see Murdoch is at the centre of preventing action on the most important policy area of our time, but she will not respond nor utter his name. (See how uncomfortable she looks at 1:07:00, before winding up the interview!). You can see how to Crabb, 'saving the planet' is just a little policy game. She was once a good journalist, but now a grossly over-rated, smug wealthy insider.
Dear freind They say the entity behind all this in not human,and all the stuff said here only applies to humans,so may be all what brought up here could be considered as totaly irrelevant, just highly appreciated to create a window of hope,we all wish indeed that it could be as simple as the speaker is portraiting ,which is completely far beyond the actual truth and reality of our upcoming horrifying experiences events on the horizon. And the trauma for the most part arises from the point of all of our kind feels somewhat unjustifiably mistreated and misinformed, and let down ,and simply also cant understand there are mechanisms beyond our earthly preceptions and other universal and cismic rules and many other informations being with held from them,hence facing a painful disasterous scenario after the point of no return,also not knowing whom to hold as responsible,that is how the scenario has been run.and it all seems as too late for any way out and away ,from it all,and deployment of AI or any other kind if advanced technologies at the merging point with an apolyptic event of such magnitude is just waste of time and hellusinations. May be must search for more realistic and useful solutions rather than being set up by this kind of next to nothing impractical thoughts.but off course we humans are used to be decieved,any way. Like Mr Mondizia below, I find little to exhilarate me about this panel game. Has Australia lost its soul? Yes! Why? Robert Louis Stevenson said this: "To know what you prefer instead of what the world tells you you ought to prefer is to have kept your soul alive." Australians are pathologically conformist; ridden with an inferiority complex dating from their time as ten bob Pom settlers. Whatever soul there was died from neglect, from lack of conviction, from sanctified ignorance. For five years after posting, this event attracted no comments. Then it got one that stood alone for three more years. And this while banal matters on inane blogs elsewhere got inordinate attention. That says something about us and the subject the panellists wrung their hands over here. They managed to state the obvious but were too light on with remedy. Is there irony in the fact that we lived under almost a decade of neo-con rule from when this panel session was recorded? Everything this panel found wanting is quietly protected on the one hand by a colonial Constitution that isn't even nominally democratic, and our religious devotion to empty myths about ourselves on the other--born of the inferiority complex and the nurture of irrational fears. On a third hand, our "education" and media propaganda promote the ignorance and therefore the impotence of the citizenry. On a fourth hand, the political party system promotes fear in the voting public (as ScoMo showed on election day 2022). All four hands add up to 'no reform is possible'. Michael Leunig is right to find no hope in that, given our aversion to reform and change, especially change for the better. We don't know what "better" means. The rot started long ago and became welded-on entrenched. When Charles Darwin visited us he wrote in his journal on 22 January 1836: ‘The whole population, poor or rich, are bent on acquiring wealth: amongst the higher orders, wool and sheep grazing form the constant subject of conversation. With such habits, and without intellectual pursuits, it can hardly fail to deteriorate.’ And deteriorate it did!! Had we been half-decently led in social and political sciences over two centuries, things might not have deteriorated to the extent they did. Donald Horne insisted we're a second-rate people run by third-rate politicians. We were happy in that state. The question the panel might have adopted is: what will it take for us to become first-rate citizens who merit first-class politicians? Had that been the case here, we might have got something worth listening to and commenting on. God only knows what went on in the Green Room (laughed off by the mediator), but I suspect the worst if Geraldine was in charge of things. Mustn't alarm the little darlings. AC
Either we never understood that silk purses can't be made from sow's ears, or, as uninspired plodders, we just preferred the sow's ear. And that's what we have and are. No mystery there. Australia leads the world in the public apathy and rank materialism stakes and in having the least influence from its writers and thinkers. Commentators like Horne and Pilger were voices crying in the wilderness. Like Leunig, I have no time for the promise of hope. There are no grounds for it the country we've made.

And as for Sarah's interview of Sydney Powell last year, 2020. It was NOT investigative journalism driven by integrity and decency and professionalism. It was pathetic. A setup - a trap. It was actually sickening watching Sarah Ferguson's glee at Sidney Powell's discomfort. WATCHING THIS RUBBISH FROM SARAH FERGUSON MOCKING HER INTERVIEWEE WAS SHAMEFUL. IT WAS HORRIFIC. On the other side of the spectrum of course it showed the real Sarah Ferguson and the real Sidney Powell - who is about to me mightily vindicated for her life, and her integrity and her work for truth and justice in America.
Maybe Kevin Rudd wanted the TRUTH to be known. Julia knew what she had done and was trying to get sympathy .. some vindication of her actions. Remember Julia's own mother said about her daughter, oh I wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of her. I feel sorry for them. Kevin Rudd was in Julia Gillard's way and her ambition like no other person in her life. No wonder this battle between truth and lies ensued. You've all missed the point about CHARACTER.
You talk about the sheer amount of abuse Julia was receiving.. OK. People were angry at what she had done to the PM. Everyone saw it, everyone felt it. The whole world was shocked. Do you recall the horrific, consistent, knife throwing abuse Kevin Rudd was receiving from the media during his prime ministership?? Of course, he is a man so maybe it doesn't matter. And only one of them is telling the truth.
That's why Taliban has taken over the whole Afghanistan to rule the country and to make men the great there because almost the whole world is becoming gynocentric like the western countries.
This obsession with identity politics, is becoming tiresome and is incredibly dangerous. We are becoming a society of discrimination, rather than respect for individuals. This will all collapse in time.
