Curious what the brand of pry tool you used. I can't finds the right google search to get results that look match the tool you used. I was able to open it with a plastic pry tool but the tool is much worse for wear now.
Someone else mentioned the black pull tabs for removing the battery adhesive easier instead of prying it, but additionally, the device seemed like it was designed to be pried open from the base of the device where the keyboard attaches rather than starting at the top of the device where the camera was. I also just left the ribbon attached and slid the cover to the side a bit, the battery was still accessible without removing the ribbon.
I managed to replace the screen and it worked when I tested it, but after I glued it it no longer worked, maybe I ruined its connector or ribbon, I don't know.
Opened the case and changed the swelled battery today with the help of this video. The clips are more difficult to open, especially those close to the corners. Broke two or three points on the plastic frames and finally opened all clips with the LEGO tool... Anyway the new battery is in place and I am writing this feedback with the Switch Alpha 12 now. Thank you for your sharing!
Jups... Screen broke when closing it back up... Yet another mass produced piece of e-waste, deliberately made to be difficult to repair... Then people wonder why I prefer custom build desktops... Those easily last decades...
I pried the battery off with a knife. The first time the battery caught fire I was in my office and decided it was too dangerous for inside. The second time the battery caught fire I had migrated to the garden and although the fire caused a small hole in my gardening gloves I escaped unharmed. The upgrade is now complete, no damage to the device, but that information in the comments about the sticky tabs would probably have been helpful.
1. To do not damage plastic border of the screen use credit card and try to push whole side of it. It will save plastic. Point force like in video make some cosmetic troubles. 2. To remove battery pull black "labels" at the corners of battery. They will remove white tape behind battery. I use small multitiool to do it.
i am from India and i want to change broken display panel of swift alpha 12 , i want to know where i can buy original display kindly help me in the form of some online links ( i tried but didnt find online for this device)
Hi, this is an excellent tablet PC but sadly the ROM is only 4G. How to upgrade to faster ROM? Is there 8G available in the marketplace? It seems I need to change the whole motherboard as ROM is attached to it. Thanks
This bitch crumbled like pastries no matter how careful I tried to open it. Managed to successfully change the battery, though. Thanks for your helpful video!
I remember that years ago an article mention this tablet isn't repairable due to custom liquid loop but after seeing this, the loop isn't glued to the back panel and feel cheated by that article. Yeah it's a bit hard due to those metal clamps but it isn't unopenable and doesn't even require heat gun Anyway this tablet has a very nice screen that holds up even today. Windows 10 is too heavy for 4GB RAM variant but Project Brunch (ChromeOS) works almost flawless. It even runs Android games well under ARC runtime even though being rendered around 2K resolution
now I understand why you do NOT show how to change the battery... because it's nearly impossible to get it out... it's glued, glued, glued. >:( don't know how to get it without damaging totally.
Thanks for the video! I am unable to find a replacement battery for my device, is it possible to just run the laptop on mains instead of battery (I will remove the battery entirely)?
Tipp: If you open it for the first time: 1. The screen breaks rather easily when applying pressure to open it; also the plastic can chip away. 2. Just leave the little ribbon on, it is a pain in the butt to get it secure again
this opens like that? didn't realize but I'm having an issue... but literally NO ONE has a video addressing it on RU-vid so maybe I can get an answer in the comment section... recently noticed the screen on my acer switch alpha 12 is bulging or popping up, I simply pushed it back down but it would pop back up and it's getting worse... what's going on where that's concerned? do I need a new screen or something?
Sir Jim, i have problem on my laptop, when i change the battery and open it. The system said that the battery was not present or not working. Do you have any recommendation?
Thank you for your video! With these instructions I opened my Acer Switch 5 and replaced the battery. The biggest difference is an additional connection of the fingerprint sensor, which is connected to the housing cover and has to be removed very carefully. Otherwise the small metal band will tear off.
REMOVE micro SD card, or you'll break the SD card slot like I did. For prying bezel, the metal frame pulls out, while the plastic frame pushes in. Note author makes a distinct pop sound with each clip release. Battery is NOT pryed out. The tape has black tabs that are pulled like COMMAND tape, very easy.
Is the disassembly similar on the Acer Switch 5 because it looks similar to Alpha 12? And how long does the new battery last compared to original? Thanks
