For those saying they misss the 90s, you also gotta take the bad with the good then.. Backstreet Boys and all taht manufactured shit that ended the decade and led us into the rest of the music we’ve been stuck with the last 20 years as record companies forced bands like sublime back into the clubs. The reality is this band was the reincarnation of everything the Bad Brains were pushing towards. Its the only real comparison and it shows with the house of suffering cover at the end.
Very good analysis of the modern music industry and their game plan. They have essentially found their formula of what they have molded into today. Get a bunch of people with little to no music background who are attractive, give them voice lessons, hire 1-12 professional songwriters to write a hit song and you have the industry plants of today like Cardi B, K-Pop, Olivia Rodrigo, modern USA pop, etc, etc... You are right, Sublime stated in a few interviews that they wanted to be just like Bad Brains and was one of their biggest influences. Along the way though I believe they became so much more. As powerful of a genesis in what the Bad Brains created, Sublime became so much more than what the Brains could ever imagine or create either. The writing Genius of Bradley Nowell was self evident, he pulled influences from all over and they are by far one of the most widely based cross pollination artists to ever come into the music industry. I will exemplify this in my coming Documentary on Sublime.
There is a very small version of Brad signing What I got playing with the Ziggens at a Bar in Long Beach. As far as Santeria, there is only 2 known live versions on VHS. The first one is in Anaheim at "The Shack" and the other is "Soundcheck Jam from Peteluma show I believe.
Dang this really shows how important the live sound man is, they played great here, but the hi hat cymbals are too quiet and the music feels kinda empty and the vocals are too dry Like looking at all the other concert footage they have they sound much more powerful
I grew up in Santa Cruz, the city Paddle Out is about. Sublime is ingrained in our culture there. Nowell is seen as a hero for us growing up. Was watching his son play and sing for then, ended up here. This band will always been such an huge part of my life. From the years of baning dope on the streets as a kid to being a 30 something with 10 years sober. I'll always love this band..
Every pair of vans ive owned since Brads death i write on the inside R.I.P. Bradley im 48 yrs. old and ex user.....his music has never died, EVER! L.B.C Brad!!!
Saw them in Jersey .... No one knew who they were. I was there for SIck of it All but these guys blew us away. They rolled in and destroyed the place.. I wish I would have met them after. I had no idea what I was witnessing and in just a short couple years Brad would be gone.
There's a great cover of "World of Inflation" at Chico State College I believe it is. Just too bad there's not a better recording of that show... Haven't watched it in a while, but seems like there's a pillar blocking the view of the stage and it's a bit grainy, as expected. Anyway, thank you for putting these performances up, we all appreciate it.
It's a great spacious venue isn't it, nice beer. I have not heard of Poppa Chubby but I shall check them out now, thank you for taking the time to stop by and listen 🤘
