Another comment based on watching more of it. Industry could really do itself a favour by separating out the experience part of metaverse, i.e. Immersive, multiplayer, avatars, etc from the dataverse part of the metaverse, i.e. Digital Twins.
As the 3d experience company, I had really hoped for more from DS than the same marketing metaversewashing that Siemens, AVEVA and co do. Metaverse does not equal Digital or Virtual Twin (as Fraunhofer rightly said). Metaverse today has become synonymous with an experiential layer that can work with Digital twins, i.e. the metaverse is a digital/virtual location , space or place within which people can interact or experience things. In the case of industrial metaverse the thing is more often than not a Digital Twin of some sort. Existing AR and VR applications (especially in the industrial context) are also not metaverses. Many are single user only, many are hard coded to connect to one asset or digital twin, and completely ignore the very important characteristic of interoperability which is needed for true industrial metaverses. In a true industrial metaverse users would be able to navigate seamlessly from a experience where a CATIA 3D model with ABB realtime data is served up in the digital space to an AVEVA 3D model with OSI PI data served up with a simulation layer from Ansys.
