There's may main man Matt Lauer - hope he gets another job in TV - they should consider starting a a new Non-PC network run by Harvey Weinstein with TV shows hosted by Matt, Kevin Spacey, Cuba Gooding, Charlie Rose, Bill Cosby, Woody Allen and original series and movies that are totally offensive - now that I would watch! Make it a pay service and if it triggers you then don't pay for it.
At 0:53, why is there two minutes and 47 seconds of kinescope footage when, at that point, the series was videotaped? Was the original videotape of that TIYL episode damaged or partially erased?
I love this so much. Always loved Carl Reiner in anything he did. He was really quite handsome! Who new that little Robbie would turn out to play Mike (Meathead) Stivic in All In The Family!! I love This Is Your Life. Such a great show.
That was amazing! Carl is so good he was happy and taking over. Hardly anyone tolerated Ralph's social clumsiness worth a damn. This felt like advance memorial service chatting. Estelle blew me away and look how young Rob is!
How many know that Carls wife is the lady who says the famous line "I'll have what she's having..." in the movie When Harry Met Sally, directed by her son,Mike Reiner.
I thought they might show Carl's previous girlfriend, the girl Carl almost wanted to marry before he met Estelle (he said in his autobiography) and I guess his other son, Lucas was too young to be shown (he's only a few years younger than me).
If Wikipedia is correct, Lucas may actually be in the episode because he was born in August of 1960, which means that he was present...but well-hidden.
At that time, he was wearing a rug on a regular basis. Years later, Carl was to appear at a testimonial dinner, but his toupee wasn't ready. He visited his good friend George Burns, and asked if he could borrow one of his at the last minute. George graciously agreed, and Carl went to his dinner. After he returned George's dustcap, he asked how the dinner went. "Your hair was a riot", Carl assured him.
SueBeaWho imogene Coca was on Your Show of Shows which starred Sid Caesar. Carl Reiner was a writer/actor. It was brilliant sketch comedy leading the way to shows like Laugh In and SNL.
The question above refers to the young lady videotaped in color following the end of the This Is Your Life episode. Seems it was a family videotape that someone made a copy of, but a short segment of whoever was taped earlier still remained on it for about a minute - at the VERY end. Someone else suggested she may have been the daughter of one of Carl’s friends who were brought on the show to pay tribute to him.
The genesis of this broadcast began when Ralph surprised Carl after a sketch/production number on "THE DINAH SHORE CHEVY SHOW" on March 20, 1960. Immediately after her show ended, Ralph escorted Carl to his studio, and taped this episode which originally aired on March 23, 1960.
Carl Reiner snuck a lot of personal things in the Dick Van Dyke Show. His friend in this video is named Joe Coogan. The man who was Laura Petrie’s old boyfriend who became a priest was named Joe Coogan. . Also the video says that Carl Reiner served at Camp Crowder. So did Rob Petrie.
It was supposed to be about himself, but the network wanted someone else for the part. It came down to Dick Van Dyke, who was starring on Broadway, and Johnny Carson whom the network liked put could quite figure out what to do with. The choice was Dick's and he made network history and perhaps most importantly launched to career of Mary Tyler Moore, who's production company was very influential. Unfortunately, it wrecked his own life, turning him into an alcoholic.
