Cultivating Peonies and many cut flowers, Perennials and the beauty of my garden, growing, cutting and garden design with Peonies of America. Growing in zone 7b Also, Introducing new for 2023… VEGETABLE AND FRUIT GARDENING 👩🏼🌾
Thank you! I was just at my local nursery researching these two peonies yesterday, and decided on the Monsieur Jules Elie (abbreviated correctly from French as Mons. Jules Elie). I was hoping to find a Sarah Bernhardt peony but the Monsieur Jules Elie was the closest I could find in that wonderful white-pink color. I prefer the petal structure of the Dr. Alex Fleming but am less inclined towards that hint of fuscia. I'm guessing I'll be happy once it blooms, probably more than I expect.
Can I pick a newly planted bare root plant's buds? I have one bud this year (I think it's my plant's 2nd year of life, maybe 3rd) Can I pick it for a vase yet or should I wait another year?
This spring is my peopny's 3rd spring and it has buds but they are green Pea size :/ I just know it won't bloom this June. Next spring I will remove some soil from the base and see what happens.
Are you still selling roots for delivery in the fall? I order some a few years ago that are doing well. Can't find anything on a search...Thanks! Cathy
Hi! Yes! I will be selling these plants in the front boxes this fall. The boxes have fallen apart and I do not have anymore areas to put them. Once I dig them up this fall they will be shipped immediately. I will put you on my list! And keep updates coming. Thank you! G
I'm in zone 7b Arkansas. My ranunculus have sprouted indoors. Our last freeze date is March 20. Should I plant them in the ground with hoops or continue growing them in my basement? Also, do they need to dry out in the soil or do they need water? I'm afraid to water bc of root rot. Thanks for posting. It's hard to find gardeners in zone 7b - so glad you're on.
Mine just froze in Seattle. Do you know if the corms are still viable? Can I dig them up and resprout them? Can I leave them in and will they resprout in the fall? What did yours do?
These side by side comparisons are so incredibly helpful! I've been trying to decide between Mons Jules Elie and Alexander Fleming (and Edulis Superba) and this final provides the comparison I need!
Hi! I'm curious what variety is the one you feature at the 7:00 mark? Also, do you have a video where you talk about the difference or pros/cons between the herbaceous and itoh peonies? Would love to hear your thoughts on that. I recently started building a peony/hosta/tulip garden. Thank you!
