More often than ever we are reminded of the importance of living sustainably. It seems everywhere we turn it's in front of us: recycle, waste less, protect the environment, energy prices, etc. Most of us haven't much experience anything other than life with modern conveniences. Living an eco-friendly lifestyle doesn't mean giving up modernity; it is an opportunity to get the most out of your time and resources. It means stepping beyond modern and into a creative future.

Our workshops and courses include permaculture design, natural farming, small garden design, solar cooking, food preservation, energy conservation, and many other topics related to sustainable living. Workshops are tailored to meet the interests of participants.

After posting this video I was walking through the allotments with a friend. We learned from someone visiting that plot number 40 won the most romantic corner contest. It just so happens plot 40 is featured here. I didn't see the romantic corner but if they won the prize then the plot has a hidden gem. I wonder how many gems are hidden in these gardens.

What a place of beauty. Though what a shame they close so early. Many people like myself like to garden in the early evening after work.

My thoughts exactly! There are still many hours of light after 4 pm. In the Netherlands there are seven hours of sunlight after closing time in this season.

Very well explained 🍋🌱👍How long does it take until roots will show up? I've tried to do it with a banana peel and a rose. It worked but then I left the young rose 🌹 in a tiny pot outside in the frost and that wasn't good. I'm going to try this. Your channel was recommended to me by RU-vid and you have a new subscriber. how long will it take to root? how long do you leave it wrapped up?
@shoshanasplace
@shoshanasplace 3 месяца назад
The time frame varies, usually after five to six weeks I check them. If I see roots beginning to for then I know it will be a couple weeks more so from six to eight weeks. Sometimes I find roots develped enough to transfer with the first check, other times the roots are too small and have to grow more. Once, I was too late; roots developed but there wasn't enough soil to sustain them.

I had 5hat problem when my trees were young. For quite a few years I thought I'd never get fruit and even worried about my trees' survival. I didn't prune to insure they had enough mass to survive. Once they reached enough density the leaves and flowers stayed on. This is true for all my citrus trees. I still have that problem with my younger, smaller trees. The winds blow up the mountain straight from the sea. Other fruit trees lose flowers, too. I'm so happy when I get fruit..

Looks like you’re picking lemons not oranges. That’ll about not ripe.
@shoshanasplace
@shoshanasplace 7 месяцев назад
They are definitely oranges. Yes, they still have some green on them; they are tastier when picked not fully orange. They quickly turn fully orange after picking and last longer than oranges that ripen fully on the tree.

@@shoshanasplace I live in zone 7B so I have to bring them indoor each winter. One of them has one almost mature fruit and several baby fruits and the other flowered but held none. How can I know if it’s ripe indoors? I read that they only turn orange with cool temps and this tree doesn’t get temps below 70 F all winter
@shoshanasplace
@shoshanasplace 7 месяцев назад
@@osiriswindsor1099 The oranges you see in this video turned orange in teperatures higher than 70 F even at night. There are fields of citrus fruit in the coastal region; the oranges turn orange. Regarding how to know they are ripe, when it's easy to twist them off the tree they are definitely ripe. If they are mostly orange with a little green you can still pick them;they'll be a little more tart than usual but tssty still.
@shoshanasplace
@shoshanasplace 7 месяцев назад
@@osiriswindsor1099 sunlight is important to developing fruit, as well as adequate water. Flowering without fruit means the flowers weren't pollinated. Indoors they don't have insects to pollinate the flowers. Next time use a q-tip, small watercolor brush, a feather tip or even you finger if you have nothing else to pollinate each flower. Using your tool, touch the inside of a flower, making sure to touch the pollen dust. Next, move the tool to the next flower and do the same. Repeat with all the flowers, mixing up the pollen dust among the flowers. That should help produce fruit.

Some people just love to be sooo picky about other peoples gardens and stuff, they will hate my yard, it got left as it was when I got sick, and I have never fully recovered, and just as we were going to finish the projects Dad landed in hospital and as such nothing has been done in my yard for 4 years. I am 60 and Dad is 79 and now we both have to use walkers just to get around so they are not the best for when it comes to Gardning 😼 Do not apologise for things that are out of your control. Life is life and it can get very messy very fast before it comes right. You can only do what you can in the time that you have everything else just has to be put on hold.🤗🤗❤️❤️

Thank you. It is true that life happens and we can only do so much. I just wanted to address the messy look for those who need perfection. I'm sorry to hear about your illness and mobility difficulties. I hope you can still enjoy being outdoors in gardens you like in your area. My mom was an avid gardner until she developed feet, hip, and knee problems. She had to make a lot of changes. Sadly, she is no longer with us; a lot of my gardening comes directly from her. Thank you for watching and your encouragement.
