I'm also reading your book "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian" and I love it. I'm Native American/American Indian...who also lives on the reservation. I'm not enrolled in any tribe but my mother and half sister are enrolled in a tribe. However, I have enough blood quantum to be enrolled but my parents didn't marry so I couldn't be enrolled given that requirement. Back to the book, the tough humor in there I identify with...I wish though that there were more serious works of literature on history about American Indians/Native Americans. A lot of people in the U.S. are like "what's that" and I can't fill in the missing gap of information...It would be good to hear from this minority...I can't imagine though all the tough circumstances.
Happy All The Time was such a beautiful book. It had these intricate scenes where all 4 main characters sat down for dinner. I loved how romantic and detailed this book was.

My favourite book of personal essays is 'Meditations from a Movable Chair'; I can't read 'Liv Ullmann in Spring' without tears welling up in my eyes. ( )See if you can.) I love that Andre (if I may; his writing makes you feel like you knew him) was a man of deep Catholic faith; and how perfectly God used him as a vehicle of his loving grace. The concept of grace was very important to him❤

If you are unfamiliar with Ken Bruen's books, do yourself a favor and as soon as you finish reading my comment log to Amazon and order a couple of Mr. Bruen's books. He was blacklisted after the HUAC hearings and when the secret Khrushchev letter came out he quit the Communist party (1957) because it was the right thing to do. And he was shunned by his friends on the left. In effect he was blacklisted by the left and the right. It was their loss. He was a patriotic American liberal and we need more like him.

I read the book as a teenager when it first came out shortly after the Vietnam war ended so many years ago. Since then I've participated in 8 wars in various roles. It's odd how the title captures a deeper truth: a spiritual war between good and evil. Like all wars this spiritual war will end. I hope it ends soon. I am tired of war.
The act of writing and making public is testimony to those who have experienced war that they are not alone. It is a gift and partial education to those who have not experienced war, that they might better understand the cost to those who have sacrificed.
