The AAHA channel is dedicated to provide information for pet owners and veterinary professionals. The only association that accredits small-animal hospitals throughout the U.S. and Canada, the American Animal Hospital Association evaluates practices on approximately 900 standards. More than 3,500 hospitals have earned the AAHA-accredited designation.
We just got a diagnosis of diabetes for our 13 year old Charles. I appreciate having videos about what's new with it. I'm hoping he's going to be okay.
Bexacat wasn't an option for my newly diagnosed cat. His levels were in the high 400s. Insulin twice a day was prescribed along with prescription food.
AAHA says this on their website, “An AAHA accreditation is a strong indication that a veterinary practice delivers quality medicine - which positively impacts your patients, clients, and team and raises the bar for the entire veterinary profession.” How can an AAHA hospital that declaws cats be delivering quality medicine and raising the bar for the entire veterinary profession? One of AAHA’s MANDATORY STANDARDS is, “Practice team members demonstrate humane care of animals.” Does AAHA believe that declawing is humane care for cats? In 2021 AAHA told us this, "“We strive to uphold standards of veterinary excellence, but we do not instruct veterinarians how to practice medicine.” THAT’S A BIG LIE! AAHA is ALL about standards, including MANDATORY standards on how their veterinarians must practice vetmed if they want to be an AAHA hospital. Also, in 2013 AAHA told their veterinarians that they cannot perform nonanesthetic or anesthesia-free dental cleaning procedures because it is unacceptable and below the standard of care. AAHA also said nonanesthesia dental cleaning procedures are not appropriate because of patient stress and injury. Many big veterinary companies/organizations like AAFP, Fear Free, VCA, Banfield, and eight more organizations. AAHA declawing hospitals thriving in America and many are making easy money on this animal cruelty since most ethical and humane veterinarians have made the choice to NOT perform this cruel, mutilating, and unnecessary amputation procedure on innocent cats. BE BETTER AAHA and stop putting $$$ first over the welfare of cats. It's clear you need to protect the six figure salaries of your top employees by keeping the thousands of dollars of membership fees from your many declawing hospitals but enough is enough. It's time for AAHA to do the right thing and ban declawing in their accredited animal hospitals. Here's more about AAHA and declawing. citythekitty.org/why-does-aaha-org-choose-profits-over-the-welfare-of-innocent-cats/
Great presentation. I would like to mention that there is a fb support group for cat owners for these meds. They are seeing some cats go hypo. As cats head toward remission their BG may dip near 50 2 to 6 hrs after medicating Many lower the dose as a result amd gradually taper off. I prefer the senvelgo for that reason. My 10 lb cat is doing well on a 7 lb dose.
why all of a sudden is there a spike in diabetic cats? it was something every rare now it seems to be going into a fashion trend? why arn't we trying to find the reason why what to avoid? this is the kind of information i would like to see instead of promoting drugs
My cat was just diagnosed w/ diabetes yesterday…she was always thin & very active but started drinking plus peeing nonstop and lost 1/3 of her weight! I blame the Temptations treats, out of my love for her, I foolishly gave them to her every night to make her happy but instead I made her very ill 😢
My Boy Samy who seemed to be in perfect health crossed the rainbow bridge last Wednesday at 4 years of age, he was fine until he suddenly lost weight and 1 week later passed away...i was devastated, miss him so much, i hate myself for not catching his diabetes before, the only red flag was he used to run to me when he heard water, i thought he just liked water for some off reason..
Wow - what a great podcast from two truly wonderful people! My cat has just started on these meds, and I’m so appreciative of having a better understanding of them. ❤
My 10 yr old cat Marley battled fatty liver disease and megacolon for 2 months. After 2 failed enemas a manual extraction of feces saved his life. He is a super picky eater and finding Tiki Cat wet food was a game changer to get him to eat. Expensive but the food is such high quality. Thru this long recovery I noticed he was very thirsty, urinated large amounts frequently and his back hind legs were weak. I knew then there was a bigger issue at play. Diabetes. Thru all of this Marley's Kidneys, Liver and Pancreas remained strong. He was a candidate for Bexacat and he started today. I pray this works for him. Thank you for such an informative video.
My cat took Bexacat for 1 month and now has to switch to insulin. His fPL level was tested 2 weeks after starting Bexacat and was 10.4 then increased to 22 two weeks after that. His ketone level was over 4. Luckily he was acting ok.
My cat was given a blood test it came out she has diabetes vet to put her on insulin a few days said she was at 360? Something should be at 190 ??? Don't know what that means...I was told blood level goes up if stressed my cat hates going to vet gets super stressed out!!!!!
Just started my cat on Bexacat this week. And just as you had suggested, I had her back at the vet's office on day 4 to check her ketones which were negative and that is great. And I have ordered a blood ketone monitor kit to check her at home. I am hoping she does well and that this is a good solution for both my cat and for me.
i have a question. i read a condition to use bexacat, never done insulin to the cat. my veterinary told us to do, we tried for a week but we have many problems with glicemia value. so he told us use Minidiab (Glipizide)...unfortunatly value Is about 350/400, so i would like ti try bexacat, but It Is non commercial in Italy. My question Is: can i use bexacat even if i do 1 week, about 2 months ago, of insulin? It Is possible?
Hi Jan, can you tell me more about how this is going? My cat was just diagnosed today and I'm trying to understand what is best fit for him...he is a 10 year old orange tabby. Hope your kitty is doing well!
@@BrianSmith-zx6ph Hello Brian, my cat Duma,17, had been diagnosed with diabetes for a year before I started giving her Bexacat. I gave it to her for six months. At first I think it helped her, but something happened and she started having UTIs, not eating, still drinking lots of water. I could tell she was suffering. I had her put to sleep in early December. I think your cat has a better chance on Bexacat since he was recently diagnosed and he’s younger. Keep reading all you can about feline diabetes. I hope lives a long life.💟☮️💟
Omg. We used this pharmacy for thyroid mds for our cat that suffered from hyperthyroidism. He was digonosed with hyperthyroidism at age 11 years. He started to loss weight suddenly and was eating more than normal . We become alarmed and also noticed blood in his urine. Took him to vet and they did tests on kidney function, liver function, diabetes, and thyroid. He ended up negative on all but thyroid. His thyroid was really over active. Thyroid mds were prescribed too be given inside of ear. It was much easier to give him his mds as pills are difficult to give to cats, they spit them out alot
@kate I was telling my wife about this podcast and about the first time that you came out to your parents. My wife was distraught. She said I don't even know who that is and I love her. You need to tell her that! I said excuse me, she said do you have some way to reach her? She needs to know that I'm a mother and I love her. So now you know! I love you too
As a newly "out"queer at the ripe age of 27, this is probably my favorite session yet. Thank you for sharing your experiences. You give me hope as a 2022 grad of WesternU, CA ... That we are more than a drop in the ocean and our collective voices are louder than the whispers of ignorant clients/colleagues/other individuals. Wish you nothing but greatness and love
Thank you, that is a lovely message! Be strong, you are way way more than a drop in the ocean and united we can build a bigger, brighter, more diverse and yes, BETTER world 💜🏳🌈🏳⚧
This was a really nice video on administration. I am sharing it with family who sometimes take care of our dog. It is informative, to the point, and it makes the process less frightening. Thank you :)
So glad I ordered the $150 blood test -- they thought my cat had kidney disease and wanted to put him down -- the test luckily said it was diabetes and he's doing much better only a week later
Debbie's response: Here are the courses I have online at the moment. I am so slack about recording content for this. iceu.com/user/5FD786343D0CE80B1341D4C1 I also recommend Ignite training (ignitevet.com/) for CSRs as they have a private support group similar to a Facebook group for the members. I also offer Zoom classes and in person classes for practices that are live if they have interest in a custom class.
Is this still current practice? To pull the plunger back while injected and then reinject what you pulled into the needle? That seems so counterintuitive. Also pushing air into the needle.... how does that not contaminate??
Alison is a wonderful gift to the vet tech/nurse career field. What an inspiring teacher! I was privileged to attend a vet tech lab in Las Vegas where Alison instructed. I learned so much but most of all her contagious, positive attitude influenced me to strive to be the best advocate possible for my animal patients. Thank you for all your hard work, Alison! And thank you, AAHA, for bring this topic to light. Y'all are awesome.
Why do I have to ask my veterinarian how to interpret the results? Isn't this stuff public information? My veterinarian can also tell me how to test for blood, which raises the question why I need your video at all.
