Hi 👋🏾 Thanks for the plugin I’m loving it for the moment. For the onscreen boarding is their way to turn it off because I have to dismiss it every time I start the obsidian. Also on iPad when I am handwriting at times it goes into code mode and I lose all hand writings. I think the fix could be if you design it as something similar to the bear app using their ink mode feature. It has drag mode where you can manually drag it. Instead auto expand. Just wanted to mention that other than that you made amazing plugin thank you 🙏🏾 😊
Thanks! If you click through the onboarding tips to the end, they won’t appear again. When it goes to code mode, if you click out of that code section it should show the handwriting again. Does it? It should still be saved and show your writing again. Let me know if it’s not. I intend to prevent it ever going into code more but I’m still figuring it out. Yep, I’ve considered manual dragging of the frame instead of auto expanding lines. I’ll probably support both eventually.
@@DesignDebtClub i tend to hand write faster maybe thats the problem. when it goes to code mode the apple pencils turns into scribble mode just writes text on the codes. so its messes everything. you have to manual go into the code find out where apple pencil added the text and remove them. i don't really know how to do ctrl z on ipad when its not connected to the keyboard. i will try to turn off scribble mode and see if that fixes anything. thank you for responding.
@@mohamedkelif9556 oh, yeah, that’d be annoying. Sounds like, though, if I can prevent it ever switching to code, that would fix the problem for you. It’s probably switching to code by part of your palm activating the markdown document and placing the cursor. Anyway, I’ll work toward improving it!
@@DesignDebtClub updating you. I turn off the scribble mode from my iPad and boom it’s worked. I was even aggressive with it writing. No need to fix anything. Just probably for newer people maybe add it to welcome notice that they need to turn off the scribble mode. I can’t wait what you come up with next. Looking forward to different colored pens, highlights options and grid feature. Thanks you so much for engaging with us and considering our feedback. 🙏🏾
after installation of the plugin, Ink plugin, and inserting ink handwriting notes obsidian freezes, doesn't respond. Drawings are disappearing. May be next time there'll be possible to use this promising plugin.
You're making AMAZING progress with this plug-in. I'm using it a great deal in day-to-day note-taking. Looking forward to what you do next. Big thank you and much appreciation.
@@DesignDebtClubin the handwrite part there is the possibility of pasting a text, but when I lock the handwrite section what has been written/pasted appears with a font that I cannot change and different from the one I have on obsidian
@bloody_1488 oh, I didn’t realise it was possible to paste text. It shouldn’t be. I’ll disable that. I’d recommend not using it. Use normal obsidian text outside the section instead.
@@DesignDebtClub I actually find the possibility of adding text in the handwrite part very convenient, for example to quickly make small diagrams between one paragraph and another without adding other plugins. In fact I thought it was an intentional function, the only problem was I couldn't change the font ahaha
@bloody_1488 in the settings, you can turn on drawings. It won’t let you add text but it will let you quickly draw something. Then in your markdown file, add a handwriting section, then a drawing section, then a handwriting section. The beauty of this is as you add more to each section it pushes the others down automatically.
#WellDone #GreatWork! need more options like how OneNote handles Both Text-Notetaking and Pen-Note!. Awaiting for future releases.. Any Autoshaping recognize features is in Obsidian ? like presents in OneNote/Evernote.
Yes to the first one. It’s on the list of things to do. I doubt I’ll ever do back links though. There are a lot of things that are higher priority to develop in the plug-in. And I feel that would introduce complexity that goes against what the plugin facilitates. but i'm open to considering it down the line.
I tried it - its good it works but its not usable at its current stage. Compare the writing with good notes and notability, it has to be as smooth as that so I can actually replace those apps with Obsidian. As it is - its a great plugin when I need to draw something in Obsidian in a pinch
Thanks. Would love to know what kind of device you’re on, and what kind of stylus. “Not usable” sounds like you’re having unusual performance issues that I’d like to learn more about.
@@DesignDebtClub it's not about performance issues. I am on ipad 11 pro 2018. It's just not comparable to apps like notability, good notes etc in the quality of writing. The thickness of the lines is too thick and it doesn't write as well as them. I should be able to adjust the thickness levels and the writing should be like writing on papee. My goals is to find an app to do all my notes on but there isn't really one that you can both do handwritten notes and the stuff you can do on obsidian - I say unusable for my use case. Recently notability deletes all my notes and it's been a nightmare. Your plugin is great but I don't know if it's feasible from a dev point of view to bake in the best features those apps have for a plugon in Obsidian.
is this have an accompanying android app or is it for writing direct to obsidian? would be sweet if it was an android app and u could have on remarkable or something
I want to jump 5 years into the future and bring us the Ink plugin version from there. I am so excited for this, can't wait for more customization, not to put more pressure on you 🙃, you absolutely rock !
@@DesignDebtClub 💜 Will be awesome if you manage to implement native stylus erasing, I am experiencing a bit of friction getting used to the erase button. I imagine it isn't very straightforward considering the different platforms (SPen button, Apple Pencil double-tap, etc). I did get the new iPad Pro with the squeeze function on the Apple Pencil (Pro, urgh), so I hope you can do some stuff with it !
@@Arc.M I’ve done some googling on this and it looks like no one knows how to do it. I’ll still do some experimentation, however I suspect that it will require the Obsidian team to capture the double tap or squeeze events and allow plugin devs to bind to them.
@@DesignDebtClub Nice! Thank you I hadn't noticed before, but the Pencil Squeeze action actually does already bring up small menu with Undo/Redo buttons in Obsidian on iPad Pro M4, which is a start! Very useful for me since I don't own the overpriced Magic Keyboard and can't cmd+Z to undo text 😅 However, currently this menu doesn't work inside the Ink section (of course, Ink does already have its own undo/redo buttons), in this case tapping "undo" from the Pen Menu would go back to before Ink Section was created, even if there content was added to Ink section after adding it in the first place.
Looks great mate. Is this very different to the "handwritten notes"-plugin? I am new to Obsidian and don't know my way around yet with all those options. And I have a Huion drawing pad and a pen, should work with this? I am also new to digital drawing so, full noob spam here
I believe handwritten notes works with pdfs? And creates new odds that you draw/write on. Whereas this plugin allows you to embed sections of writing inside existing markdown files. Not sure how well it works with your Huion. Please try it and update us!
I tried. It's great, but it can't keep up with the pace when I'm writing fast, so I can't use it on my tablet for regular handwriting (I wanted to journal with it)
i've been following your ink handwriting journey from a couple weeks now, this is a dream plugin for everyone who have tablet or just wanted to use handwriting on their workflow. But yeah, im using samsung tab with spen, its not writing fluently, its a bit sluggish for practical usage. But I understand this is maybe a hard task to fix, the writing perfomance of stylus, but Im really looking forward to this! Thank You!
I agree. I am using a samsung tablet with an s pen as well. There is a bit of delay when writing, and sometimes it won't properly register some strokes especially when the writing section expands. Turning off S Pen to text in the settings seem to have improved the experience a bit. However, I have to slow down when I write in order to have a decent penmanship. Nonetheless, this is a good start for the plugin!
Thank you both! I've just created this issue. If you can both post a little more detail there it would be very helpful! github.com/daledesilva/obsidian_ink/issues/41
Thank you for making this, I got tired of using Excalidraw for all handwritten notes :) not sure if you tested with iPad, but would love to see further optimizations for it!
Awesome, just found your channel. Nice plugin! Crazy, I was thinking something like that would be so perfect for me… and bam here it is. Will try it tomorrow, first thing 👍 thank you so much for your work
Man this is awesome, exactly what I was missing! One question: How can I delete a handwritten section? So far I can only find an eraser and copy function. I am using it on a Samsung tablet, not on a PC, however, so that might be the issue(?) Anyways, props for this great plugin!
At the moment there isn’t a direct ability (it’s coming). But you can click after a section and then just backspace until it shows the embed code and then delete the embed code
Thank you so much for this !! I've been looking for a push to switch from all other note taking apps that try to lock you into an ecosystem ! Mixing text and handwriting was the final wall to break !! This looks extremely promising 🔥💜
Amazing plugin, been using it everyday. Great improvements! Hoping for a feature that allows seeing the lines even after locking, for aesthetics :P Thank you for you work!
Even though I'm not currently using obsidian much, let alone in a pen capacity, I really enjoy these videos. I can appreciate your use case, and it's really cool to see someone tackling the problem thru this (seemingly simple) elegant plugin. I'm not a developer so I can only imagine what mountains you moved to create this!
If this doesn't win best Plugin 2024 Idk what would! THANK YOU!!!! Finally I can stop mourning my Onenote days and fully embrace the switch to Obsidian
Hello First of all, I'd like to congratulate you on the creation of your plugin, which finally makes it possible to easily navigate through your notes with pictures. Through this post, I humbly propose 4 avenues for improvement: - A Toolbox that lets you search the trunk visually or via a clickable link: - for a note (using its name or associated tags) - Canvas - an image (PNG,JPG etc..) - PDF FILES - URL, HTML - I also think it's a good idea to place another box below the search box, where you can bookmark notes (either by dragging and dropping, or by creating a shortcut). - For better navigation, it would be interesting to have a visual overview of the different types of notes (text, images, PDF videos, Internet links). It seems to me that you have planned this improvement, but I'm not sure. - It would also be a good idea to add a button for creating Canvas next to the one for creating notes. As I don't have any coding skills, I honestly don't know how long it would take to develop these improvements, but they seem sensible to me and should be put on your development schedule. Thank you in advance for your reply. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely
