I have a painted shaker style DIY kitchens kitchen. Fantastic. Very happy with my choice. The pull out drawers in the lader cupboard are a must have. Infinitely better than shelves. We also have the 'kidney' corners and find these very effective. We store all our plates on them and it has no signs of struggling with the weight. We have a pull out bin too. I can't stand a beautiful kitchen ruined by an ugly bin!
Yes, we. My wife is in many of the shots, shovelling and taking out wheel barrows of muck, all while cleaning and tidying the building site and making my food and doing house hold chores.
I'll pick cashmere as i'm not a fan of dark coloured cabinet (except for dark/ navy blue with bronze gold finishes)....looking forward to the finished project❤
Kitchens and bathrooms are something that is very important to buyers but I bet 99% of people never look in the cupboards when viewing a house. So spend on the visual elements not the fancy interior 'gadgets'. Great visualisation on the ipad, really shows it well. Island as a focal point might be good.
Hi both Definitely spoiled for choice , normally the advice is don’t go for something that will quickly date . But with your plan to move on , this is probably not a consideration . Also not over spending on things is a valid concern , because you won’t necessarily get the investment back . Visual impact , with well thought out functionality is the best approach . Also with you both posting useful skills in design and construction , much can be achieved with minimal outlay . As a bit of a laugh the kitchen we still have , came from a DIY store some twenty years ago . It’s still going strong and shows no signs of giving up , it cost the princely sum of £2000 pounds . But will probably be replaced purely because of the dated looks , and even then some bits will finish up in the workshop . 😂. Bless you both as always .
We really thought we would have the kitchen designed and finished while we were at the showroom! It’s way too much to choose from, as for cost we keep cutting out the non essential but then feel like we are missing a treat by not getting what we want 😂 it’s way to hard trying to design the whole house ourselves we probably could have done with an interior designer 🙈
Hi both How do you intend to prevent water ingress into the stud work , could you have rapt the bottom in PVC membrane . Tiles alone may not prevent water getting through . Kind regards as always
We will be tanking all the wet area, to start I’ll seal the corners with silicone, then paint the corners with the tanking membrane and then install the corner flashings, going over all the joints etc. creating a water tight base before we start tiling
Great stuff , sorry for jumping the gun 😂. But I remember a plumber saying to me , get wet rooms water tight was a major problem . And having been brought in to jobs where the tanking had been incorrectly installed , was quite common . But obviously your undertaking the task yourself , so this will not be the case . Kind regards as always from an old curmudgeon . 👍😀
Derelict cottage needs new roof , removed most of fauls ceilings next is original , so just pulled a corner off the ceiling and noticed , 2x4 rafters at 1 mtr centrs 🙄 not seen ridge yet , or head plate , i know facia are rotten , so taking out chimney which is massive once roof is off , whats your thoughts on reclaimed standard black tile slate or shingle sheets on osb , will still use new rafters 6x2 at 400 centrs , will put new ceiling joists in with new rafters once headplate replaced.original roof was corrugated no boarding just straight on felt 🙄
Sorry Darren, I’m only a carpenter, my first time roofing on my own house so I wouldn’t be able to give you sound advice as I don’t have any experience in this field. I hope you can get some help/answers from some with more experience
Thanks for commenting, luckily there’s all rubber underneath but I wanted to make a designated channel so if there’s crazy wind it doesn’t blow up past the rubber
Hi both Doesn’t seem that long ago since you were starting the office project , but to you it probably seems a lifetime ago . Surprised that the guttering went like it did , normally it’s pretty indestructible . Perhaps it might be a good time to consider a shed, to house some of the materials you intend to keep , especially things like paint that don’t respond well to frost . But it’s all very easy for me to say , and definitely know how quickly things can pile up on you . Kind regards as always
You’re right, it feels like we built it decades ago! As for materials, we store all the materials that matter inside and we are kicking all we have left outside of treated timber or ready for the bonfire 😅 a lot of the paint is just old stuff we haven’t thrown out yet, Natasha loves me, I’m quite the hoarder 🙈
Brilliant video as always. Yes I remember watching the video of the demolishing of the shed, that's what started me watching your channel. Hope all is well, take care of yourselves
Thank you Peter! Appreciate your constant support, really means a lot to us both! With full time work, renovating and trying to keep up with social media, it’s proving a hard task to keep all plates spinning 😅 hopefully we get another boost of motivation soon as moral is low in the Jenkins camp 🙈😅
indeed, i've been following your progress since your office build started... you've come so far along the way... you have some SERIOUS cladding to do in the future!!! you continue to be an inspiration, keep on keeping on and thank you for sharing your journey
Thank you mark, the office build seemed like such a big task when we moved in back in August 2022! We thought the build was going to be just as easy and boy how we were wrong 😂 we appreciate your support 🙏
@@Selfbuild_TheJenkins i procrastinated for months about building my own shed/workshop but wimped out in the end and bought one... it just seemed such a difficult task for me... i admire your resolve very much
I always say it, there is no need for trades, as long as you are fit enough, determined enough and have spare time then anyone can DIY, even to the same standard as the pros. It may take you three times as long, but it can be done.
Storage area for deliveries when we’re not home, cover for guests when it’s bad weather, a feature piece for the front of the house , a bit more privacy to the front door
If you have a look carefully we install a DPC, as the bricks finish at DPC. We haven’t put the concrete floor in yet and this will have dpm, it’s going to be an open porch without a door 👍
