Old and new on Britain's railways. The railway is in a constant state of change. What is common place one day soon becomes history. This channel is my attempt to record the everyday ordinary before it disappears. I am based in the London Borough of Bromley so my main focus is the London area. The back catalogue charts the changes over the past seven years and also looks further back to the 1970s when I was taking 35mm slides. There are also mini series about the history of the early railways around London and how they are used today. I publish regular new videos so it is always worth coming back to this channel. It is even easier if you subscribe and ask RU-vid to notify you when a new video is published. The big story over the next couple of years is likely to be the introduction of new rolling stock and the cascading of the older generation to new duties. HS2 and other major projects will also feature as they become more visible.
The new Piccadilly Line trains should be in service in the next couple years that Siemens have won the bid to manufacture new tube trains to replace the 1973 Stock. And new tube trains to replace the 1972 Stock on the Bakerloo Line.
Nice video Mr Boogie. Heathrow is definitely a busy place and I quess they don't want you filming something that "they" don't want recording. I remember getting told off at Cannon St last year for taking photos of the stock in the platform. Well done 🤓
Orpington station is a very busy station with Southeastern and Thameslink both serving the station. Also Southeastern have now got all 30 Class 707 City Beam trains as "707024" and "707030" have been transferred from South Western Railway and are now in service. With SWR to start introducing their new Class 701 Arterio trains on other routes before the end of this year or next year.
@@BoogiesTrains Ah, so that disgusting power grab for the GLC went out that far! It wasn't enough for them to to absorb a whole county (Middlesex)... Still, Orpington is still addressed as being in "Kent", not London, I have noticed.
The London postal districts pre-date Greater London so quite a lot of London is still in the previous counties for post sorting purposes. The outer parts of the outer London boroughs remain very different to the inner boroughs.
Interesting video, thanks. I hadn't realised that the 377/7s had pantographs and, until your closing shot, presumed they must be able to get to Watford on 3rd rail alone. But clearly not. I was also thinking how patient you have to be to drive a freight train!
@@bobfennell3717 they used to run up to Milton keens central with the /2’s but I had noticed they stopped running the /7’s and mostly just ran /2s down the line (and the /5 ofc has had them since the first capital connect days for Bedford to Brighton services
Wish that Heathrow Express kept the Class 332 or they could have inherited the Class 379s from Greater Anglia. As the seats on the Class 379 are lot more comfortable than the horrible hard seats on the Class 387.
The last remaining Class 707 Desiro City “707024” and “707030” units are now being transferred from South Western Railway to Southeastern. Meaning that Southeastern now officially has all Class 707 City Beam trains. With the Class 701 Arterio trains to start operating on other routes throughout this year and next year.
Since the Chatham and Southeastern routes at Ramsgate were joined together by the Southern to form a loop, I'm not sure that there is one. I guess the departure board at Charing Cross might be the best source of an answer.
It is a real nuisance since they added a few courses to the top of the sides. I can see over if I am standing on my bicycle pedals but can't change sides quickly. This time I took the car and a small step ladder. Parking in Beaconsfield Road is usually ok.
Why can’t South Western Railway use them on other services such as Alton, Aldershot, Basingstoke and to be used on outer-suburban including Weybridge, Reading, Guildford and Dorking. Weren’t they going to be used on the Portsmouth Harbour service and downgrade to Class 458/4 with a top speed of 100mph.
Nice little film Mr Boogie, personally I like the idea of trains having names and adds a bit of "glamour and prestige" to the service. And to answer your question yes the railway companies are missing a trick. Well done 🤓
I was on a 2 coach TfW Class 197 train from Warrington to Chester, and there was a trolley service. The train was going from Manchester Airport to Llandudno.
Excellently produced as ever. Looking through my notes, I see I was on the Somerset/Wilts border that morning and saw 800313 work up from Plymouth on 1A77, as well as 802111 on 1A80 from Penzance. Keep up the great work!
It's also not the same without named trains, I used to travel with my Father back in 1950's on The Red Dragon. Breakfast in the Dining Car Kedgeree linen tablecloths and smartly dressed attendants..those we the days😂😂
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hEGz13x4SkA.html Link to one of the videos. There is a playlist but it needs tidying up as I accidentally duplicated some videos and then deleted them.
Great video as always Mr Boogie. My son and his family recently went to Köln from Arnhem while there on holiday and also pass comment on the time keeping, once the envy of Europe. 🤔🤓 Nice video, well done 🤓
There were quite a few issues with both regional and long distance trains while we were there. I have been unable to identify most of the ICE services in this series due to poor timekeeping.
Thank you for adding this. I didn't have time to make any notes when I was filming so had to rely on other sources later. If you see anything else please make a comment. Unfortunately there is no way to change anything once the video is published but corrections and additions in the comments help.
