The kayak tournament that I am participating in is catch, photo & release. A picture is needed of the fish on the ruler to be able to submit the catch.
That’s why I angle my board down in my boat and with these big ones I have my net at the end of the board. We all learn the hard way. Also now that it’s so hot outside, dip your board in the water for a few seconds before you put them on it. Sometimes they’re feeling the burn like we do when walking on hot sand.
Grea video man! I make fishing videos as well so it's really fun to watch your videos and I really enjoy them!! I've gotta get out and make a bass fishing video myself!! Keep up the great work!! 💪🤝
You killed it this day. I was out there in the same area fishing this day. I seen you shooting up the leader board. I was really looking for 18"+ fish you were catching lol.
@@HookLineAndThinker Light or Ultralight action rod. 5.5’ to 6’. Every fish will feel like it’s 4lbs. It’s a bunch of fun. I’ve caught every species and size on a beetle spin. It’s my go to when the fishing gets tough.
Appreciate your comment. I am undecided on it. On one side, I enjoy competition and seeing how well I could do. On the other side, it makes me hyper focused on how well everyone else is doing and could take some enjoyment of just fishing away.
Yeah, I get that, too. I stopped doing the monthly's and just do tourney's now. Some people have a lot more time to do the monthly's (usually the same people are always winning them). Got tired of lining the pockets of the same people every month.@@HookLineAndThinker
Don't I know it! Outside of fishing, I am getting professional help to change my way of thinking. Definitely over-critical of myself and my actions. Working hard to be satisfied with the smaller accomplishments and work towards better things. Really appreciate the comment. Tight Lines!
Got to hang in there trust me I have had some of the same feelings lately... That's why I'm gonna just stick to the monthlys and try my best and whatever happens happens... Still fun!!
Thanks for the kind words. I started fishing monthlys back in November and trying my hardest to be happy that I get to fish so much and not so much on the results!
Thank you for your advice! Really appreciate it! I try to go fishing weekly and have participated in a few monthly online tournaments recently. Will definitely sign up for some additional one-day tournaments as I gain more confidence.
I, myself, am also learning to bass fish. My plan is to hopefully use my videos to record my progress and slowly share my learnings as I gain confidence in my freshwater fishing skills.
Appreciate the question! This is for an online monthly tournament with Foothills Kayak Anglers in North Carolina. You can fish as much or as little during the month and your longest 5 fish over 10" count towards your standings. Started to fish with Queen City as well, which has a similar format. Both trails offer one-day tournaments each month as well in different locations.
If you haven't tried it, get a Berkley Choppo (90 size or 75), white or silver... throw it up near docks or the shore. Let it sit a couple seconds, pop it like a popper. Those spots seem to love that thing. Seems to work better working it with pops versus just reeling it back.
That's the area I fished for the NC BASS state championship last November. Had a great day and it fished great. Too bad I live over 3 hours away. I caught 4 on a Berkley Choppo, fishing it like a popper. Caught a couple more on a Ned rig. Good luck this season in FH! I fish in CCKF but was hoping to make at least one FHKA event this year.
Thank you for sharing your first time experience in a tournaments setting. The butterflies must have been really moving all day for you dealing with everything. The weather your video work knowing what bait to use trying not to make any mistakes. People really want to know it’s not all rainbows and butterflies, but you brought us that is real. I’ve never kayak anything in my life I’m just observing everything I’ve been a bank since 2008 fishing for trout here in the mountain lakes of Colorado and this is something I want to pursue so thank you again sir for sharing. God bless and take care.❤
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words. I tend to get into my head alot and sometimes have difficulty allowing myself to have small wins. Tight lines!
Hey! I’m Queen City’s youngest angler(15). That first tournament is tough! A little tip as you mentioned is go to the weigh ins! I’ve learned so much from going to them! If you need anything or have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out! Tight Lines 🎣
Thanks Matty! I tend to be too critical of myself and then that puts me is a bad mood, especially when I am not putting anything on the board. Working on it though.
