Punk should have done an amateur fight instead. Guys like Rodney Mack, Sean O'Haire, Palmer Cannon, Scorpio Sky and Bobby Fish are all much more athletic and more trained than Punk but they knew to fight at a lower level first.
"The uh football player from Oklahoma" Don't know why Severn is trying to act like he forgot who he is, he's the same guy that pinned Dan in less than a minute in college.
I just bought the full box set series of The Dukes of Hazzard and I still watch him to this very day and I show it to everybody who doesn't know what Dukes of Hazzard is I showed it to them and they are hooked on the show and when I got my favorite car in the field I always try to slide across the hood of my car and believe me it's not that easy as it looks but I was able to manage to slide across the hood of my car and climb in through the windows like my favorite cousin's Bo and Luke
Kevin has one of the worst cases of Stockholm Syndrome ever "If you'd had the guts you'd have killed yourself like your brothers" Yeah, Fritz was a great guy....
exactly. if you lose so many sons to suicide you fucked up as a father. ESPECIALLY if the reasons are directly linked to what you did to them mentally. he couldnt stomach the fact he didnt get this precious ridiculous title and he drove his owns sons into madness. he is responsible as a father. its that simple.
I always get upset hearing wrestlers say Jacque sucker punched him. No he didn’t, dynamite is the one who sucker punched Jacque when he wasn’t looking. The other thing is the roll of quarters as a weapon, well dynamite was full of steroids so I say fair game. Jacque did the right thing and he got pay back for everyone dynamite ever picked on. Bad News Brown is the one I’m disappointed at in this whole story. He was an Olympic judo guy and he was pretty much a bodyguard for kid to do this crap. Just wish Raymond could have got a clean shot on bad news and it would be the perfect story
The Von Eric family were and still are my people. What Kevin has over came speaks volumes on how he was raised and the man he has become and the young men he has raised. And yes I’m as big of a fan of Ross and Marshal as I am of the other guys. Kevin is trying to explain what is nobody’s business to begin with. The problem is the Von Eric’s are and were bigger then any celebrity of the time
Here from London, England, after watching the movie. Such a Sad story...but Glad that Kevin has had the chance to change the family cycle and raise a family having learned the lessons of how to be a good, loving and empowering father. ❤❤ Ashame your Dad wasn't portrait in a good light, feels like a liberal attack on the Patriarchal male.
"He got 2 Hebrew slaves that did whatever he said." Lmao If this was a huge channel and if Matt Hughes was relevant in todays time, that remark by Hughes would have gotten him and your channel under SO much fire. Lmao
Finished up the Iron Claw recently, having grown up on the Attitude era as a 90s baby. I can’t believe I didn’t know about the Von Erichs! Kevin is the epitome of an incredible human. He’s been through hell and back, came out the other side, with love in his heart. An incredible man. Eric - I just wanted to thank you for doing this interview and praise you on your passion and respect towards Kevin. You asked great questions, never interrupted and you could tell he had a lot of respect for you. Kudos my man! Cheers
I grew up in East Texas with a family full of wrasslin' fans and we watched WCCW every Saturday. So, I was brought up right! ;) The Von Erichs were everything in Texas! Not just to wrestling fans, but everyone from all walks of life knew who they were. Pizza Hut even did a promotion where for every large pizza you bought you would receive a poster of one of the Von Erichs. At that time it was Kerry, Kevin and I believe David. My Dad bought my sister and I all three. For 3 weeks we had pizza on Sundays. I miss these amazing days of wrestling and the Von Erichs will always hold a special place in my Texas heart. An amazing family!
When Michaels real music was playing at the end of the movie when the brothers were in heaven together I cried . So let me just get this straight the father wasn’t there monster he was portrayed as ? That’s really horrible ! And they left out another brother ? Chris did he wrestle also ??
As Lanny Poffo duly noted, French-Canadians are naturally big-boned mother-f'ers. Just take a look at Raymond'e wrists and fists; this species is biologically built for combat. If Jacques was a naturally aggressive guy, Dynamite would have had his ass beat the first time round.
Props to dan for squashing the beef and puttin ken on his podcasts with priority. Royce, Ken, Dan and Don are the first four that really built the UFC. Coleman comes in as the fifth man...but thanks for the great content your the man Dan
I can understand touring is exhausting, and being home is the best lol. I don’t even really want to leave to go shopping. I’m glad you guys will still play; I never got to go to a concert or anything. Still waiting for my opportunity.
I met Severn at an autograph signing in Indiana. I’d never really met a celebrity before let alone someone I grew up watching and was a fan from MMA and wrestling, didn’t know what to expect. Well me and my brother were the last two to go in, just us and Dan and like one or two other guys who were handling the event. My brother is a wrestling SUPER fan and knows his stuff, also normally you can’t get two words out of him. I was starstruck and couldn’t talk, my brother and him talked for like 45 minutes going back and forth about wrestling and his career. He was the coolest, nicest dude you could ever meet. To see my brother just light up and rap with him was awesome! For him to give us that time and just talk like that two just some regular dudes was so cool. Dan Severn is a bad MOFO make no mistake, but he is also a great dude!
I remember when Mark coached BYU and they were at Air Force. It was 1997 and BYU's 126 lb'er John Kelly was wrestling and suddenly he takes a timeout. Kelly is sitting there with his legs folded under him and motions to the coachesSchultz walks over and lays out a towel in front of him. Well, Kelly ends up throwing up twice right on the towel which hushed the crowd. In the end, Kelly won the match by a point, something like 7-6, and then had a thermometer in is mouth the rest of the dual. Assistant coach Larry Nugent said John Kelly was mentally the toughest wrestling he's ever coached.
Love Jacque Rougeau. I never understand when people try to defend Dynamite in this story. Didn't he break John Foleys daughters leg to bolster a potential claim from a car crash? I also heard he executed kittens with a shotgun. Not sure how legitimate it all is but he was clearly a bully and a monster. Its a truly epic David and Goliath tale.
Violent J if you are reading this, you are friends with Billy Corgan, who is friends with Marilyn Manson. Are you friends with Marilyn Manson? That would be GOATed
Mark Schultz? Are you serious? Do you know his story? He did not want to win a gold medal for the man who ended up murdering his brother. I would think that makes sense but you know that’s just me.
What Dan Severn leaves out is that he was one of the smart ones that didnt put his life into it. People knew dupont was crazy. But wrestling even to this day still grovel at the knees of the super rich. Veteran worlds exist because of dupont who won it with zero experience. Not only that, but after he killed dave, there were guys going for the olympics that were still taking money from dupont and competed under foxcatcher. The lack of integrity was apparent for alot of guys who were around du pont during that time
I genuinely feel terrible for kevin after that movie. To see something like that that really happened to him and for it to be such a bald faced lie is such an evil hollyweird move. People said the same thing about winning time even though it was good cinema. The truth is whats important and all these people wanna do is lie. We call wrestling fake but hollywood is full of the true imposters
What a super amazing story! Jacques seems to be such a nice person, who doesn't actually want to get into fights, but he's able to stand up for himself. Greetings from Germany!
The movie doesn't acknowledge the time and effort that whole family put into the art. It's terrifying to think that their life experiences were caricaturized when this really happened, and most of the family is gone.
Well, if you want to learn more after this interview, we ended up starting a podcast together. I do two different podcasts with the Von Erichs and they talk much more in detail about this and about things the movie will never tell you. RU-vid.com/@thevonerichs
I mean, let’s be real, that was the worst thing you could be and he was a heel. Much like the iron sheik and Nikolai Volkoff. I don’t believe it was a curse, but as much as it pains me to say this, there were some bad choices there on behalf of the brothers.
