The change from “curtain’s fall” to “curtain call” really gets me. In the curtain call, you’re *still preforming.* The bows are rehearsed. You smile big and wide even though you’re probably exhausted and all you want to do is wipe off your stage makeup and crawl into bed. Even when it’s over, it’s not over, not yet. It ties back into how Sara Lynn sings about how fame outlasts life. You can stop dancing at the curtain call, but there’s still more to do
A fun, probably unintentional thing i just noticed. The amount of time from the door coming into view until Sarah Lynn jumps through it is almost exactly 17 seconds (perhaps a parallel to the 17 minutes she was on the brink of death before finally taking the plunge)
The line that always hurts me in the reprise is "The overture's a lifetime but the show is short". An overture is a piece of music that plays before a show like an opera or a musical. It's supposed to be short so the audience could prepare for the show. But she says the overture, the promise of an enjoyable show, is longer than the show itself. She went through an entire life that were an overture, a constant promise that if she did what she was asked she would finally "get to watch the show" and v be happy. But she spent so many years in the overture, that when the show finally started, it was already over
Anyone else think there's almost an element of Cabaret to the song (particularly the final version) ; very much putting on a show, smiling despite feeling empty and depressed - "Life is a never-ending show old sport" being very similar to "Life is a cabaret old chum."
I've never watched Bojack, only the clips, but that's more than enough to make Sarah Lynn's reprise of this song crush my soul every time i hear it. It's just so drastic and dramatic. The way she repeats the words BoJack told her on that day, that stayed with her throughout her whole life, while staring into the abyss of death, visibly scared and sad about what happenned. It's just so absolutely heartbreaking
If you have Netflix I’d give the show a try, first season starts off slow but gets better. You get really attached to the characters and the Sarah Lynn situation hits like a train in the later seasons.
Life is a never-ending show, my friend, A twisting-turning, ever-bending show. The audience is everyone you know, my friend; Leave them with a smile when you go! You can bet, that you're a star, so don't forget How fun you are! Get up there and give it your all And don't stop dancing, don't stop dancing 'til the curtains fall! You are a rotten little cog, mon frère; Spun by forces you don't understand! Living is a bitter nasty slog, mein herr; Why not sell your sadness as a brand? Paint your face and brush your mane and find someplace to cut your pain To portions we can buy at the mall! And don't stop dancing- no you can't stop dancing 'til the curtains fall! Aw shucks! Today's the day you've got the spark and find the way to make your mark and get your tiny name on that wall So don't stop dancing, baby don't stop spinnin'! Don't stop beltin' buddy; now we're winnin'! Grief consumes you but you just keep grinnin'! The ache becomes you and it's just beginnin'! Don't stop dancin' Nothing's certain but the curtain!
@@Emerly could you prove me right/wrong? Im pretty sure bojack flatlines in the “view from halfway down”, could you overlay that with sarahlynns line when she starts looking at the door? You dont have to of course, its your channel and all that jazz. I dont own any video editing software and tbh im lazy.
Gina’s song has the line “don’t stop dancing till the curtains fall” which means she had the ability to stop after the shows were over. Sarah Lynn had the line “don’t stop dancing till the curtain call” and a curtain call is where the actors stay behind after the shows to talk to the fans, answer questions, etc. and It’s so depressing because it shows that Sarah lynn had to keep dancing all her life even after horsing around even though she wanted to be an architect.
This whole episode is so harrowing. Sarah Lynn’s difference in tone is so disturbing but understandable. She is ready to be done, her poor tragic soul is so tired, its found acceptance in death. God this show.
"What use is the struggle and the strife, old horse? End it and your legacy lives on." The fact that Bojack's mind tells him to kill himself... and mine does too.
