The Mark O’Connor Band isn’t your typical family band. Three of the four members -- including American music legend Mark O’Connor -- play fiddle, and the fourth plays mandolin. That’s a lot of high notes. But with the help of guitar and bass, the O’Connor Band delivers beautiful and thoughtful original vocal songs, classic covers, and sophisticated instrumentals with a fresh, powerful, unprecedented sound that has begun winning over fans of every style from bluegrass to indie folk to Americana.

Chorus: Buffalo gals, won't you come out tonight? Come out tonight, Come out tonight? Buffalo gals, won't you come out tonight, And dance by the light of the moon. As I was walking down the street, Down the street, down the street, A pretty gal I chance to meet Under the silvery moon. Chorus I asked her if she'd stop and talk, Stop and talk, Stop and talk, Her feet covered up the whole sidewalk, She was fair to view. Chorus I asked her if she'd have a dance, have a dance, have a dance I thought that I might get a chance to shake a foot with her Chorus I danced with a gal with a hole in her stockin', And her heel kep' a-rockin' and her toe kep' a-knockin', I danced with a gal with a hole in her stockin', And we danced by the light of the moon. Chorus I asked her if she'd be my wife, Be my wife, be my wife Then I'd be happy all my life, If she'd marry me. Chorus
When our son was 3, we purchased a children's music CD. A version of this song was on it and he would sing along and cry before the end, almost never fail. This song has held a special place in my heart watching the emotions it pulled out of my rough and tumble little guy.
