In my butterfly garden I've noticed that the rotting bananas, more than the oranges, attract the butterflies. You can also use orange gatorade as well as the sugar water.
I never use my clay/pottery bird baths in the winter. The constant pressure on the sides from freezing ice at night and thawing during daylight will cause these bird baths to disintegrate much sooner than they should. I'm only aware of this because it happened to a neighbor of mine. I use a heated, white, plastic bird birdbath in the winter but I don't fill it up too high because the water on the lip will freeze. I thought the heater had stopped working until realized I was filling it too high. But I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia and people in warmer climates probably don't have to worry about this. I try and look for white bird baths. That makes it much easier to tell if the water is dirty. Dark colors and mosaics are the worst for seeing dirt. (If you don't care about dirty water it doesn't matter.) I keep a tightly wound strainer hung-up near the bird bath and use that to clean very minute debris and birdcrap out of the birdbath between changes of the water. I change the water at least once a day. Some species of birds will crap in the water on a regular basis.
Hi David Great Video! Haha I made the mistake of planting a Fig in the Greenhouse. It was only a tiny seedling from a fruit. It took over the whole greenhouse and I kid you not cracked the glass at the top where it tried to grow through a crevice. Even if you cut them right down they will grow back up. Just incredible trees. They really need a woodland setting where they can just grow huge. They just grow to big and to fast for the average garden. Also when they are dormant and leaves dropped. If you cut branches off and stick them in the ground every one of them will root, just like willows do. :)
Great Video! Like - Check Subscribe - Check Share - Check haha that was funny at the end. :) Just like to mention we do have Sand Lizards here in the UK aswell, appologies if you mentioned them and I missed it. If you get Slow Worms in the Green House they will breed in there and keep all the slugs and bugs off the Tomatoes,Cucumbers etc Just make sure you have a sunken washing up bowl with some water in and Bobs your uncle.
Oh my the brick and stone on your house is beautiful. Garden is amazing. I hope to have something that amazing some day. Working towards it. Excellent!
What are those plastic grow bag extensions called? I tried searching those descriptive words but nothing resembled what you were using. Also, where might I find a supplier? Any info is greatly appreciated! 😄
Very good point made about garden ponds - small creatures need a shallow 'ramp' type exit to get out. just a brick or slab can give them the necessary leg-up. A Lesson hard-learned, had one drown in ours at old house. :-((
