The inability to get inorganic fertiliser is not a constraint. It's actually a major benefit as chemical fertiliser does not benefit soil microbes or address long-term fertility. On the other hand, organic compost is exactly what is required by soil life to improve soil structure and beneficial microorganisms.
I blame education in Africa, europeans have been do this over 500years ago thats why they have many canals, we celebrity mediocrity but want to be respected. After medicine agric is second in most doctors in africa but we cant even think of a simple thing like this.
Here in Europe we can learn so much from these wise farmers of Burkina Faso and Niger! Our fields getting more depleted every year by plowing and application of synthetical Fertilizers. The process of depletion is slow, but on the long term not less dangerous than in the Sahel Zone. Agroforrestry as practiced by these wise farmers, could be a solution for our European Soil. Thanks for sharing!
If someone can reach out to Mr. Ouedraogoon and tell him this, I have a proposal for his lack of fertilizer: pigeons. He needs to build a pigeon loft or pigeon tower and have pigeons. they fly far off to forage and their droppings are prime level fertilizer. this aside, they provide meat. Pigeons were used since ancient times for providing fertilizer.
