Beverly Sheffield and the Buttholes, (a family name innocently chosen well before its current connotations), entered the Motown music scene in the late 1950s. Launching his career at the tender age of 10, little Beverly Sheffield joined forces with his older cousins to form this spirited family band. Throughout the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, they achieved considerable chart success with a joyful sound reminiscent of the Jackson 5. Celebrated for their lively hits like "Call me a Butthole"," "Butthole Stomp," and "Butthole Twist," their music championed themes of unity and the strength of family bonds. Beverly's vibrant stage presence, from such a young age, helped cement the group as beloved icons of Motown's festive era, bringing people together with their soulful and exuberant anthems.
I think Billy Peston played on this album and Mick Jagger produced this record after wrapping up the “Black and Blue” sessions with the Stones in Munich.
I sang this song to my then girlfriend. Later that night we conceived a child, and would go on to have a decades of wonderful bliss together. The child would grow up to be an avid and controversial Twitter loser, and my woman would leave me cruise line bartender, but for a brief moment I climbed that mountain. I climbed that mountain
Butthole mountain was named by famous 17th century explorer Eni's Butthole while trying to find a pass through the central divide to forge a way for weary travellers breaking into the west.
This one always hits me right in the feels... I believe this featured as the opening to Jim Carrey's first ever film, promoting the esteemed 'Butthole Mountain' Ski Resort.
They actually climbed Butthole Mountain in 1982, after two of their founding members Ray Ray Jenkins and Donell Rightway had already died in the infamous plane crash. They planted a flag for them at the peak. I know, I was their climbing guide. R.I.P.
This is actually a good funk album in its own right. The humor often doesn't go beyond simply saying "butthole" but in a way that just makes it feel more authentic!
