I think I'd go with Freightliner m2 106 with a dd5 engine because they have the fewest regen and DEF problems and a 400k mile b10 rating. Air ride suspension if you can afford it over leaf springs. Box trucks tend to have higher final drive gear ratios in the rear differential. Higher gear ratios are good for acceleration and hills but will also cause the engine to run at higher rpms at freeway speeds, which can impact fuel efficiency and engine longevity. The Allison automatic transmissions are probably the best option, but I think they are limited to 6 speeds, unlike the bigger trucks. Maybe someday they will make a smaller version of the DT12.
Mrs . Wright Iam so glad I came across your video it’s definitely giving me a spiritual boost from the frustration Iam going through with my box truck and being under someone’s authority. I definitely appreciate your support you are giving out . Much respect
Ms. Wright, love your attitude about running business. we purchase our first truck (2013 International/durastar) few months and regret not getting the lift gate. We also had mechanical problems with canister/gasket after our first load. We are looking at getting truck and will take mistakes we made from our first truck purchase.
Hi Ms. Wright, thoroughly enjoyed your mentorship. My son just received his authority, he operates 26' box truck, no lift gate. what's your thoughts on getting more business until he's able to get his truck equipped with lift gate . Thanks for sharing knowledge and experiences.
If you're gonna get into this business thinking outside the box is key to being successful.. Dont be scared to get on the phone or go in person and work with customers directly especially if you're local. You will be saving them money cutting out the broker and putting money in your pocket avoiding a broker/dispatch service.. Also if you're delivering ask for a Logistics/Warehouse manager seeing if you can bid on some of their lanes, its an easier conversation while already there. I was a broker for 7 years and worked with all the big box stores all across the US, if you have questions just ask.
Hey men i gotta say that your comment has been really helpful and i appreciate that is with the intention of helping other in this business... I have 2 questions since a long time ago and now that im about to start Id appreciate your advice... do you think that i would be able to do local loads in the Chicago area after 6 months of doing Over the road? also do you think that a reefer box truck has a big difference in better opportunities than a dry one? Thanks in advance!
I tried to book a 30 minute consultation on your IG, but i couldn't. I would love to connect with you. I got my authority in February, and im getting ready to start spot rate in 2 weeks. Hello, I am a new subscriber! I just started my business but there is so many things I have to learn. I having issues with insurance because they say I need to have the vehicle already in order to get insurance. But I decided to go the rental route starting off before purchasing my first truck. The rental companies have commercial insurance. So is it necessary for me to obtain my own insurance even though the rental companies offer it?? Is it the same type of coverage and insurance??
You are the best.. great advice. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom. I'm new to the box truck business and need all the help I can get.. thank you mam.
