The Hollow Men TS Eliot I. We are the hollow men We are the stuffed men Leaning together Headpiece filled with straw. Alas! Our dried voices, when We whisper together Are quiet and meaningless As wind in dry grass Or rats' feet over broken glass In our dry cellar Shape without form, shade without colour, Paralyzed force, gesture without motion; Those who have crossed With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom Remember us-if at all-not as lost Violent souls, but only As the hollow men The stuffed men. II Eyes I dare not meet in dreams In death's dream kingdom These do not appear: There, the eyes are Sunlight on a broken column There, is a tree swinging And voices are In the wind's singing More distant and more solemn Than a fading star. Let me be no nearer In death's dream kingdom Let me also wear Such deliberate disguises Rat's coat, crowskin, crossed staves In a field Behaving as the wind behaves No nearer- Not that final meeting In the twilight kingdom III This is the dead land This is cactus land Here the stone images Are raised, here they receive The supplication of a dead man's hand Under the twinkle of a fading star. Is it like this In death's other kingdom Waking alone At the hour when we are Trembling with tenderness Lips that would kiss Form prayers to broken stone. IV The eyes are not here There are no eyes here In this valley of dying stars In this hollow valley This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms In this last of meeting places We grope together And avoid speech Gathered on this beach of the tumid river Sightless, unless The eyes reappear As the perpetual star Multifoliate rose Of death's twilight kingdom The hope only Of empty men. V Here we go round the prickly pear Prickly pear prickly pear Here we go round the prickly pear At five o'clock in the morning. Between the idea And the reality Between the motion And the act Falls the Shadow For Thine is the Kingdom Between the conception And the creation Between the emotion And the response Falls the Shadow Life is very long Between the desire And the spasm Between the potency And the existence Between the essence And the descent Falls the Shadow For Thine is the Kingdom For Thine is Life is For Thine is the This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends Not with a bang but a whimper. Thank You for posting this very admirable work. Please Be Well, and Stay Strong, Will
In the 60's these are like my friends that watched over me. And NO they were not all drafted! Many were man enough to join military to fight or die for their country. You know, me and you! WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE HOORAY FOR OUR SIDE AMERICA?!
Vietnam was not a war we should been involved in, but I NEVER DISRESPECT OUR TROOPS, BUT APPLAUD THE TROOPS WHO SERVED THEIR COUNTRY. THEY ASSUMED RESPONSIBILTY AND DID THEIR DUTY. IT WAS THE POLITICIANS WHO CIRCUMVENTED MILITARY SUCCESS IN VIETNAM MY DAD WAS IN KOREA. ALL THREE OF MY SONS RETIRED MILITARY. THE HIPPIES WERE A REBELLUOS BUNCH ON DRIGS AND SEARCHING FOR SELF-SATISFACTION. LITTLE B*TCHES, IF YOU PLEASE.
I feel in❤ with this, song getting ready, to gtaduate, back in 1978, in a class by itself, peter framton was so dofferent, and amazing. His hair was gorgous,. He was so perfect to me. Miss him dearly., Miss those happy years, 70s, life was fun,
My dad served in Vietnam. He said he didn't jump in line but he didn't run either. A Marine to the Core as are all Marines I have met. He was proud of his service despite people spitting on him and cursing him when he return home. He loved this song.
Yep Society was mainly ass-Holes to the service-men back then. Wars Are governments and Soldiers are the pawns, Sadly!!! Thanx To ALL Soldiers & especially The Ones that Didnt come Home walking. and Sadlier worse is society in genral is getting worse!
I'm a Chelsea supporter but want to say that no football club anywhere in the world has anything to match Liverpool's anthem. It sums up the fighting spirit and the solidarity of a great football club and a great city.
Anybody remember “Music of the Vietnam War” about 8 minutes long, uploaded by whalen something a while ago, guess it got taken down but man that was a good one. The ending was rough as shit
What I find really interesting about this song is that Buffalo Springfield didn’t actually even intend for this to be a song about Vietnam, but the way he worded the lyrics just fits too perfectly.
Yeah, one big "operation" by Johnson, Bush and Kissinger to get ride of the "peace and love movement in the U.S.A. Send them to die in a far away land by a stranger's hand.
