I use the Callaway Epic 3,5, and 7 woods. My best move, although there are times I miss my 3 and 4 irons. The more I use the 7, the better I hit the 5 and 3 woods. The lie and distance tell me what wood to hit. Wonderful demonstration with the 7 W!
I have been carrying a Ping 7 Wood for about 3 years now. It really is a great club. It will never leave my bag. That being said I do carry several woods. I have a 4, 5, 7, 9 and 11 woods.
I'm 60 years old and have been playing golf for 45 years. When I was a kid I worked as a caddy at a local country club. When we had our "caddy day", (yes it was pretty much like Caddyshack) they had a raffle and I won an old persimmon 7 wood. As I said, that was 45 years ago and I've ALWAYS carried a 7 wood. Call it a cheat club if you like. I also carry what many people call a cheat stick, a chipper. I use what makes the game easier and bot a 7 wood and a chipper make the game easier.
I carry a 7 wood and a 9 wood in my bag, basically because I really never hit long irons very well. I find the 7w and 9w easy to hit well, and they fill the gap for 3i, 4i and 5i. I am a rightie, but I putt left handed with a cross grip. My bag usually has Driver, 5w, 7w 9w, 6i, 7i, 8i 9i PW, SW, 60°W and Putter, which is only 12 clubs, so I also carry a left-handed 6i which can come in handy for the occasional time I end up in the wrong side of a tree.
I thought you were going to putt with the 7 wood. I have driver, 3, 5 and 7 wood. I call my 7 wood the go to club when I want to put the ball in play, the fairway finder. But recently I have been hitting my 5 wood well and in play often. I also find with my 7 wood I tend to hit it and it goes a bit left. I am happy that I got the 7 wood, and now thinking of gettting a 9 wood, but they don't make that for my Mavrik set.
I thought I was about the only one who recognized the real value of these fairway clubs. I have the Ping G430 Max from driver to 9 wood. I can hit that Ping 7 235 yards with incredible height and accuracy , which I'm not able to pull off with an iron equivalent nearly as often. I'm so impressed with the ease of use and versatility. The 5 wood actually has enough distance to cover a 3 wood, but with so much better control. These are truly clubs that help lower scores.
My 7 wood is pretty awesome but the 9 wood is an absolute weapon. After I get into trouble off the tee, it's a great feeling when I pure a towering baby draw into the green and they mishit irons and wedges, lol.
I agree with some points, but you need to settle a wee bit. This is the kind of attitude that can put people off starting out. Golf has evolved and golf is for everyone.
So which points did you disagree with? I didn't hear any that weren't simple common sense. No, golf is not for everyone. Golf is not for people who selfishly think they can take as much time as they like because it's 'their turn' and damn everyone else.
What is the difference between the 3 hybrid versus the 7 wood? They both seem to give you the same distance. I have both but I removed my 7 wood in favor of my hybrid. Thanks!
used 7 wood ping 425 for quite a few years best club in the bag , struggle off tee at moment as going right. Not so good in the wetter months unless sat up a little . Don’t forget the 9 wood can be just as good .
I carry a 5 and 7 wood, both fantastic for long fairway and long par 3 tee shots, and the 7 great out of rough, went back to them as didn't get on with rescue clubs.
I bought a 7 wood about a month ago and love it. It's good for 185m or 200 yards when i hit it well. Use it off the tee or on long approach shots at the green lands with very little rollout, an absolute gem.
Great video Miles hi to have played Southwick many times could you do a video on 40 yards from the Green 60 yards from the Green and 100 yards for the Green? I am trying to tidy this up to lower my handicap .regards Eddy
One man, one club, one camera, one tripod, one take! That was a very good demonstration of the versatility of that 7 wood. So many interesting ways to use it. thank you
7 wood has become one of my favorite clubs in my bag this year. would be fun to try this out. I’m terrible from 50 yards in so the 7 wood bump and run is a shot i’ve been playing a lot lol
@ryanlindsay4246 I lofted my 5 wood up to 20° and put a 3 wood shaft on it to mimic the specs of a Heavenwood. It's a wildly accurate & easy to hit club. Even my mishits are decent. Definitely becoming one of my favorite clubs in the bag
I love my 7 wood and refer to it as a "cheat" club also...200-205 yards fairway every time....another shot I've worked on you all may want to try....I always carry a 2 iron and I have a shot where I basically hit a half swing low draw...goes about 180-200 yards and is a dream to use off the tee on short par 4's or as a second shot laying up on par 5's...you don't need a full swing to hit the ball 200 yards...I'm no young guy...53 years old and just trying to learn new shots because I know my time of a full hard swing is coming quickly to an end...hope this is helpful :)
Top vid Miles, +1 is class in those holes with 2 clubs! Noticed the speed of your pre-shot routine, perhaps part due to your hatred of editing, but can you do something on the different styles of pre-shot routine that players use and why they might choose them? Also something on pros/cons of 7W vs Hybrid would be cool
Lovely Vlog, made me smile lots. Brings back great memories of my time in the RN and spending time at HMS Dryad. Sent many an hour both on the golf course and fishing for carp on the lake. Thank you so much, a no brainier to subscribe and enjoy more like this as enjoyed the golf instruction too and yes I do have a 7 wood but need to use it more often !!
