Lots of tragedy & also regrets in this film. One foolish mistake in life can take you down a lost road. Glad Joe found closure yet I hated the ending. My take on the ending was that Joe made the wrong choice to again leaving Ruth without ever telling her how he deeply felt about her. Life is full of ups & downs. Joe came back down to Earth once seeing his family again finally too. Yet what a coward Joe was to stay away for 25 years and only going back home for short visit and missing his "best friends" funeral. Not much of a best friend really. Joe really was FULL of himself now wasn't he? Glad Joe at least helped Ruth financially so not to loss her home. But it would have been nice to see him try to be an actual friend beyond money. The letter was a love letter of sorts yet it really only broke Ruths heart AGAIN. Weird how some men don't deal with their feelings well. Sad for Joe's mom too. Yet the death of Jane ruined a family for certain. Worse part of the movie. Made me cry. Had Jane just walked over the Joe's house so to be baking with his mom & sister. My fav film with Danial Craig. Oddly this film was right after his FIRST James Bond film. Such a great actor. Best James Bond ever. ❤

Did anyone else unexpectedly start crying? She was so special and to see her act in a Spielberg film to a John Williams score in that beautiful iconic hepburn outfit... as an angel. She got the final role she deserved and we got a parting gift from a star

The John Williams music in this scene really is heavenly. He evokes the perfect atmosphere for the segment in the high grass, as Hap explains how the living and the dead are connected. Inspiration...

It was a good film .Funny and sad at times.Great aviation sequences. But this scene is so poignant in the movie and real life. brings tears to the eyes I think she had already been diagnosed at this time.? I would like to think we would all be met with a serene soul like hers from time to time.

What a beautiful thought to have Audrey accompany you to the other side. How divine! Also, it is so fitting her last role on screen is that of an angel. Divine intervention. God specifically planned that.

I just realized Audrey Hepburn was in a movie of modern genius Steven Spielberg. Though she worked in movies by Billy Wilder, Stanley Donen, William Wyler and Fred Zinneman. I wished she had collaborated with Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese, Orson Welles and Satyajit Ray (whom she presented the Academy Honorary Award in 1992).

Decent movie, could have been really good if Spielberg knew anything about wildfire firefighting. Dreyfuss as a retardant plane pilot?? Who cast that one? And some of the scenes with Holly Hunter's dialogue were painful to watch, and the goofy young hero....ugh. But Audrey Hepburn, on the other hand, was perfect for her role, and Goodman was a decent sidekick. I fought fires in the NW for years and some of this rings true but much of it is complete fantasy out of Spielberg's mind

Actually, it's a remake of a film called, "A Guy Named Joe." Pretty much the same story, except it's set in the US Army Air Force during WWII.
