Hi Robert, thanks for the comment. We put in at Johnson's Crossing on the 23/07/2018 and took out at Minto on 04/08/2018. If I remember correctly, we had about 3 camps where we stayed 2 nights, just to chill out and enjoy the surroundings. I need to go back!!!

Thank you both for putting up this video series. Very helpful to see the Teslin River section which is not a widely documented here on RU-vid and has helped me plan out my trip a bit and keep me pumped for it next year. That said I need to apologies to you for most Canadians for that shop keeper in Carmack's giving you Molson Canadian as "a nice lager". Something tell me he was pulling a fast one on you. Most Canadian's would not refer to Molson Canadian as a good beer. That said the look on your face to have them after 10 days is priceless. Cheers,

Loved watching your Yukon adventure. It was funny, informative, and just a joy to see. We have been to Yukon and the Arctic ocean 3x. That part of Canada just pulls you back. Great that you two had a chance to visit. TXS for sharing.

Ron!!! The legend, it's you. It makes me so happy. It's people like you who make these adventures so great and memorable. We went back again this year (I got the Yukon fever from the last trip) and went down the Pelly River - simply amazing... I will try to edit the vids sometime soon and share. Anyway, we caught the Husky Bus from Pelly Crossing and I was hoping to stop in at Minto to come and try find you but unfortunately there was no stopping. If there is anything I regret from the last trip is not getting a serving of poutine from your store. I really hope our paths do cross in the future so I can buy you a beer! Keep on being awesome mate. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Would you be able to give me some details about this trip including outfitter and or maps links?
@twothewilderness6915
@twothewilderness6915 4 года назад
We used UpNorthAdventures as our outfitter on this trip upnorthadventures.com. They were really helpful and provided us with some great gear. The maps I used were authoured by Mike Rourke. These books contain handdrawn maps along with indications of key points of interest and camps (although a bit outdated there are more camps not marked on the map which are relatively easy to spot). You can get official topo maps but I thought these were good enough to meander down the river. I needed both the "Teslin River" and the "Yuokn River" map books as the Teslin book only covers up until Carmacks. www.yukonbooks.com/shop/customer/product.php?productid=2613&cat=0&page=1 It's exciting times to be planning a trip like this, enjoy it!

Looking at doing the Yukon 1000 race next year and stumbled across this . Just what I needed to see guys, and has given me a better idea what to expect. What made you choose UpNorthAdventures as opposed to the two other canoe hire places at Whitehorse? Any top tips you think would help? Thanks!

Super happy to have been able to help. I actually met the organisers of the Yukon 1000 in my hotel lobby while I was out there last year. It seems like an awesome race but a bit too fast paced for my liking :) I am keen to hear of your experience. We went with UpNorthAdventures purely based on the online reviews and when I contacted them they were prompt to reply and supplied me with good info. We are actually going on another trip to the Yukon in July 2019 and will be using KanoePeople as our outfitter, so far the communication with them has been spot on too. I would say send them both a message and see which outfitter answers your questions best. My top tips would be to not leave your cooking gear behind, calibrate your drone compass before flying and bring a fire extinguisher!!! Haha, but seriously though, there is no such thing as overplanning. Have a good equipment list, food list, rough itnerary of where you plan to stay each night and leave a copy with a friend / loved one. Satellite phone / tracker should be part of everyones kit list (we would have given a lot to have a phone during our forest fire - we are taking one this time). Research bear safety (I certainly am no expert but I learnt a ton about bears and best practices). One item we will also be taking this time is a cooler bag with some iced bottles to keep fresh food a bit longer - not so sure this applies to a Yukon 1000 trip. I hope this helps.

Great - thanks. After a few e-mails it looks like I'll be using KanoePeople too as their equipment seems better for my needs. I'm just waiting for the reply now to see if we have got in as there are only 15 teams allowed to go but my race partner is Dr Mike Stroud (Sir Ranulph Fiennes expedition partner) so should be ok, fingers crossed! Make sure you post your other adventures to keep inspiring us all!

I watched all 6 videos and really enjoyed them! Cant believe you had to go through a fire, I dont know what I would have done in that situation. Several challenges along the way made it even more interesting to watch and it was cool that you overcame them all. Lucky you had amazing weather. I went on this trip in 2014 (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VzUYWG-j1I0.html) and were going back in two months! Glad you had a great trip. Cheers!

Glad you enjoyed the videos, it was such an awesome trip that we going back again in July. This time we going down the Pelly River, hoping to have weather remotely the same as we had last year! Which river are you going down?

What an adventure! First the drone & the lost cooking gear (that later got successfully delivered haha). And then the bushfire! The Yukon River is truly wild and breathtaking. I can't wait for episode 5! Greetings from Germany.

Just wondering if there’s going to be an episode 5 at some point? My cousin and I are doing Johnson’s crossing to carmacks later this summer. I’ve watched all of these, and they look absolutely amazing! I honestly can’t wait for this trip. Thanks for showing me what this is gonna be like potentially.

Hey folks, just watched episode 1,2 and 3, and enjoyed all of them! They have given us a flavour of what we'll hopefully experience during our own adventure paddling the same trip this summer. Quick question; when did you guys start and finish the trip? Looking forward to the next episode/s, thanks for sharing.
@twothewilderness6915

Hi frdrckcole, I am so happy that these videos have helped you in your preparations for your awesome adventure, these were my exact intentions. We took 13 days to complete the journey from Johnsons Crossing to Minto, I think the recommended duration is 10 days but we spent 2 nights at 3 camps along the way which was a great decision, it gave us time to chill out at camp, do some fishing and exploring. If you have the extra time I totally recommend taking this approach. We left on the 23 July 2018 and completed on the 4th August 2018, as you can see from the videos we had perfect weather every single day, the only day which turned a bit sour was the last day which seemed totally in sync with our mood. If you have any other questions or need a second opinon on anything then please drop me a message. I am sure I will be able to edit the remaining videos by the time you go on your trip.

@@twothewilderness6915 thanks for your reply! Two more questions; which hotel did you stay at and did you use a hire car to get around Whitehorse or did you just walk/taxi to the shops etc?
@twothewilderness6915
@twothewilderness6915 5 лет назад
@@frdrckcole We stayed at the Elite Hotel which was well located with UpNorthAdventures. Canadian Tire, Walmart and some of the other food shops are across town which is about a 20 minute walk. We did not hire a car, just carried a backpack and bought bags from the store. It was manageable, however im sure you could take a taxi if you wanted to do a big shop.

@@twothewilderness6915 That's great to know! We are really looking forward to our trip especially after watching your videos. We have done a lot canoeing in Ontario, Scandinavia, Scotland, Eastern and central Europe but none in the north west of Canada. So our planned trip is going to be a new experience and in a region we are not familiar with. It's going to be great! If you are interested you can read my blog from our month long trip in Ontario last summer - www.songofthepaddle.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/56178-An-Ontario-Odyssey-Canada Thanks for all of your advice, Fred

@@@frdrckcole, really nice write up and great photos too! I am also looking for our next adventure and I'm interested to know which rivers you have canoed in Europe? Multiday, wild camping trips are my type of thing, so if you have any suggestions then please let me know.
