Italy an France were the first in the world to import anime..in the 80's in Italy you could watch literally hundreds of different anime series aired for free on tv, same in the 90s and 2000s, then internet came. It all started at the end of the 70s when Go Nagai's Grendizer was aired by italian national Tv. The success was so humongous that all the other tv stations started to buy anime series as if there were no tomorrow cause those were relatively cheap and were a garanteed income.
