I love this song, so I tried my best to transcript the lyrics Kandori: What are you living for? Where do people come from, and where are they going? Maki: What are you living for? Kandori: I don't know. Maki: Me neither. Kandori: Tell me. Maki: Tell me. Kandori: There is no meaning. Maki: I want to change! Kandori: That's a waste of time. Maki: I can't change... Kandori: There's no meaning in life, you should know that. Maki: I don't want to be alone! Someone get me out of here! It's so dark in here! Kandori: You and I are the same. Kandori: Grief and joy, anger and sadness... it's all an illusion. Who needs such transience in life? That's why I'm going to... Maki: The past, the present, the future... they're but a glittering dream, holding nothing to me. That's why I'm going to... Kandori: Being alive is a mere illusion. Why are we born? Why are we even alive? No one has the answers. It's an endless labyrinth for the soul. The heavy cross that we bear goes by the name of "karma", No one can escape it. We surrender our bodies to fleeting pleasures and try to forget, but the eternal doubt still remains, shimmering deep in our souls. Maiden, continue crying. Master, bring your argument. Maki: The past, the present, the future... they're but a glittering dream, holding nothing for me. That's why I'm going to... (I'm pretty sure Kandori also says something in this part but I don't know what it could be) Both: That's why I'm going to... Kandori: What are you living for? Where do people come from, and where are they going? Maki: What are you living for? Kandori: I don't know. Maki: Me neither... Kandori: Tell me. Maki: Tell me...
The note at 1:12 sounds like the song itself is physically recoiling in horror when the lyrics come in and honestly I think that might be what makes the entire thing for me
Am I the only who thinks that the peaceful atmosphere of this palace is much creepier when you realised that there are some lovecraftian elements on it? Maruki is a good person, no doubt and the most sympathic palace ruler when the others were assholes (Not counting Futaba) and his palace has a heavenly theme but ironically, many of the shadows are not only demonic or death themed, but some of them, Byakhee and Hastur are lovecraftian, not only that but somes of the overworld shadows like the thin humanoid ones and the femenine armless ones who turns into a freaking giant mouth with sharp teeths if caught you are pretty alien/lovecraft like, even the ones from the new area of mementos created by him reminds me the Yith race from the shadow out of time, and at the top of that, Maruki's original persona is AZATHOTH and this palace theme describe him as a madman, all of this makes me think that despite Maruki's benevolent nature, there's something pretty dark hidden in his palace and even the posibility that Nayarlathotep could be somewhere there hidden, even if in the end it turns that there's nothing I still find this peaceful soundtrack disturbing because of all those lovecraftian elements.
Life is but one scene from a play. We are all nothing more than novice actors knowing nothing of the script. It is through the toil of the actors that the curtains can be brought down… But no one remembers the players. All that is left for them is to fall into oblivion… For eternity…
Maruki is a top 5 villain for the ENTIRE industry and I will not be told otherwise. The state of shock and sadness once I completed my first playthrough was so intense I still remember it vividly and will do for some time
