8th Decade is dedicated to those of us in the senior citizen demographic. Together we’ll discuss topics of interest to elders. Aging gracefully, The joy of aging. The privilege of getting old. Keeping a sharp mind as we age. Fitness for seniors. Senior's nutrition. Senior's benefits. Through videos of my own journey as well as items of interest that you suggest we’ll explore the joys, and the challenges of aging in today’s society. I look forward to your comments as this experience is both similar and completely different for each of us. I’d like to hear from you so send me a note telling me what you’d find interesting. I’m open to suggestions, comments and discussion so drop me a message,
In the medical field patients who are terminal have wonderful palliative care to alleviate pain and suffering. To bring God into induced dying is so wrong, as we know we who accept Jesus as our Saviour are in the book of life. I would not want to age knowing that I willfully aided a person in dying. Imagine, Thursday at one pm you are to die, it’s just so evil.
Thanks for adding to the conversation, Janine. I appreciate your respectfully presented, thoughtful perspective. I always appreciate hearing how others think and am open to changing my own perspective on receiving information that makes sense to me. Again, thanks. Have a great day.
Thanks. I try to keep moving as much as possible no matter the weather. It's going to get much colder before winter is over, but movement is necessary. 😃
Buggers promised to get back to me... I had to call repeatedly and in the end was told to wait... Basically have up on the liars. Like dealing w an I srance company: promise-deflect- we'll get right on that-lost in Liberal limbo... Kinda like the promise by the Feds to join the Forces and have free Heath and dental care... bastards forgot to mention any care essay their option and 2nd rate at best...
Sorry to hear that your experience has not been good. Mine was the exact opposite. Everything went smoothly and the coverage was quick. Sadly, I cannot offer any ideas that would be helpful other than asking your MP to intervene.
Thanks for your query, Frances. You can find the qualifications for OAS by using this link. www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/publicpensions/cpp/old-age-security/eligibility.html
How so? I'm curious how you come to this conclusion? You haven't provided any verifiable information to back up your assertion. My experience and that of thousands of other seniors suggests otherwise. I look forward to seeing your research.
Not necessarily. Most of the info here is federally funded. Each province and territory also has benefits but they change from one jurisdiction to another.
Thank for sharing I am a new parkinson patient. I take half tablet three times a day. It improves slowly and make minimal effect. It does not like those youtubers said the improvement is great after taking levedopa. I tried not taking pill for several days and the syptoms were not worsing.
I started with 1/2 tablet 3 times daily, then 1 tablet 3 times daily and am now using 1 tablet 4 times daily. I really don't want to go any more so I am biding my time to see what happens when I'm through a stressful time I'm currently experiencing. I hope you find what works for you.
I've. been on Carbidopa/Levodopa for 7 years. I take 3 25/100 tabs 5 times a day and it's not doing much good. I started in 2017 and slowly increased to where I'm at now. My gate is way off and my legs are getting very stiff and weak. I don't know where to go from here. Its horrible. I was exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam. I'm 100% VA disabled. I'm losing all hope as 10s of billions of dollars have been given to research and they have nothing new.
I hear ya, Barry. I'm just beginning this journey and am finding the adapting and acceptance of the situation difficult at times. I'm living more with tremors and emotional upheavals than I am with balance and gait issues at this point, but who knows what tomorrow will bring. I find that having understanding people to talk to is helpful as I work toward contending with these changes in my life. There's online groups if there's none in your area. I also find it helpful to remind myself that some of the depression and apathy I feel at times is the result of both the disease and the medication and that, for me, things are not as devastating as I feel at times. Accepting that a cure is simply not available is difficult for sure. I wish you well and will keep you in my thoughts.
I know a lady never worked in Canada was sponsored by her daughter and just lived for ten years and getting 1800$ per month pension. I wonder how pension is calculated, I know a person worked in Canada for 14 years getting 1200 around low income sometimes no income. What is formula to calculate pension old age/GIS and CPP Is there an easy method to calculate. Why they don't make a table starting from 10 years to 40 years serving and contribution. I could not understand sorry for that
I can't wait to try this recipe! Thank you so much for sharing. I love watching channels by older people because I always learn so much. Thank you again!
It is a nonsense to make CPP and OAS a taxable income !!!!!! As a CPP benefit I am collecting 577 $ every month and have to pay tax on it !!!! Does it really make sense ????? As for OAS benefit, I have been living in Canada since the year 2000 and have started to collect a meagre 413 $ per month and have also to pay tax on it !!!!!!! WTF is wrong with Canada ??? Think about of surviving on a monthly taxable total income of $ 990 !!!!!! I really regret having worked so hard to earn this in my old age !!! At least those who have not worked hard get at least a GIS (guaranteed ) income supplement as a bonus, which I don't get !!!! OAS and CPP as well as GIS shouldn't be taxable income !!! It is like our GOVERNMENT want us (SENIORS) to horribly die of hunger and misery !!!! Hope Conservative PIERRE POILIEVRE ABOLISH TAXES ON THOSE BENEFITS FOR SENIORS !!!!
@@eugenemukama1794 It is indeed frustrating. I wouldn't hold my breath expecting a change of govt to do anything different. Have you asked your MP about this?
If you are paying taxes on a $990 pm income then there is something wrong here, because if you are earning less than 17K pa(give and take) you don’t pay any taxes because you are under any taxable income bracket.
Yes lm very passionate because l talk with my friends and they are very heartfelt they could be someone mom a d in and on, they need to have money to live like all, l know because they are my friends money talks money walks, it's way of survival on this earth
Look they need 3000 a month why should they go here there they love there surroundings that is unfair, where is the love,, my friends cry, so they have to stop seniors are someone's mother someone's father, wake up gov they need food lots of fruit my friends look like snow white
Great question. Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative disease. Movement is normally controlled by dopamine, a chemical that carries signals between the nerves in the brain. When cells that normally produce dopamine die, the symptoms of Parkinson’s appear. See more at www.parkinson.ca/
Stay strong my friend. Any disease/syndrome has it's own unique challenges and learning curve. We just have to keep trying whatever we can to be in command of it.... or at least the best we can be.
Hi Norm, it’s very sad what’s going on in this country. A lot of seniors have to keep working to afford skyrocketing cost of living, and unfortunately some end up on the streets. Thanks for bringing this up. I wasn’t aware things are so bad in BC. It seems that seniors are the last thing the government worry about. 😢Take care 😊
Indeed, Andrew. I'm particularly concerned at this juncture because of the possibility of someone getting into power that sees seniors as a drag on society instead of being those who built it, and as targets to "cut" expenditures. We must stay vigilant. Stay safe.
Hi Andrew. My recollection is that it had to do with being forced into signing an agreement they had no part in creating. Fair enough. Over the months, however, the government has cleaned up its act and provided better information to everyone and now the plan seems to be operating beautifully.
Hi there, exercise is crucial to improve any health condition including Parkinson’s. They say it’s even more important than diet. Personally I’m in the final years of my 7th decade and I’m trying to incorporate morning routine of 20 minutes of combined stretching and aerobic exercise and fast walking in late afternoon. Keep doing what you’re doing and good luck in your Parkinson’s journey. I’m glad you have found what’s helping you.
Thanks, Andrew. I agree wholeheartedly. I hope soon to be looking at some preemptive exercises as well, just in case. Things like voice and swallowing will come first. Learning proper stretching techniques sounds like something appropriate as well. I wish you well.
Just watched your first video on this and was pleased to see you did an update. I’m looking at this as my Fall project when it cools off a bit. The way you installed it with the trim and rock around it looks great 👍🏻
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for your comment and compliment. The crushed gravel goes under the pavers I used as a base to provide drainage as well. So, both attractive and functional. 😉
Great question, Kevin.I've always wondered about that as well. Perhaps because CPP is something we paid into it's treated like any other investment? OAS on the other hand is a straight benefit as you pointed out.
Kevin Smith this is your choice if you want to pay taxes or not you are not forced to pay taxes. This is totally your choice…. Please have a very nice day and I hope I brought you good news..😊
Thanks for your comment, Glen. While I may not agree with the assessment of the dentistry being a "racket" I fully understand people's frustration with the expenses incurred. That's why I'm pleased to see the Canada Dental Care Plan in place and working well. While it doesn't cover the costs completely in all cases it certainly makes choosing this health option available. Have a great day.
Mine has been up since last summer. Only thing I’ve had to do is put a lock on the top of the doors as they did not remain “closed “ with only the central latch.
Great solution, Richard. Mine works fine with the slide bolts on the one side and then just the central lock. The doors here will snug together and stay closed on their own as well.
Excellent question, Andrew. I'm currently on Vancouver Island so our shed has experienced mid to high 30's in Summer but only about -10 in winter with lots of rain and heavy, wet snow. I do have 40 years of experience living in Yukon however and if I were back there now I'd be willing to try one of these for sure. It would be interesting to learn if the material would get brittle at those low temperatures though. I don't thinks so, but have no way of knowing for sure. If you decide to try one, let me know how it goes for you.
Hi there, I have been battling with chronic insomnia for years , seen a few naturopaths over the years with no improvement until I started incorporating simple 10 minute aerobic exercise every morning and since then my sleep has greatly improved.Take care.
Hi there, thanks for sharing. Just my two cents, wouldn’t it be better to grind chia seeds before adding instead of using them whole. Ground seeds are probably better utilized by the body, the whole ones are going to go right through the digestive system.
@@8thdecade All our children are Canadian citizens. Me aged 66 and my wife coming with PR under PGP. I am really worried of being at home doing nothing. May cause depression. I have a Canadian G2 licence. Would you please advise me if I can do some job
@@Outspoken684 As I said, I'm not a qualified expert but I'd suggest you contact Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada on this question. Starting at your local Service Canada office may be also be a good start.
Excellent question. I didn't do anything as my shed is quite protected from harsh winds and has a lot of weight being stored inside. My recollection is that one would simply drive some large screws or bolts into a solid base if needed.
Not sure what you mean by "enforcement," Glen. The experience from others had been very positive. It is true, however that it is something that is continually evolving. See my video at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SDb6pxuNa3o.html
The BC Dental Association has decided that its members will not participate in the program. My dentist is not participating and there is no mechanism to force the dentists to participate in the program. So, no access to dental care through the new national dental care program - it's just window dressing, a dental insurance program with no dentists.
@@Glencairns Thanks for this, Glen. Curious that dentists in Ontario and the hygienist I go to here are so happy with the plan while the BC Association is turning away. Continued research for me I guess. Again, I appreciate your input. Have a great day.
Hi again, Glen. I just received a response from the BC Dentist's Association. It reads, in part, "the BC Dental Association has not advised members to not participate in the Canadian Dental Care Program (CDCP), and furthermore, as a professional association, BCDA is not in a position to dictate the actions of its members. Our message to members from the start has been that before making the choice to participate, dentists have all the information they need to fully understand the impact of participation on their individual practices." Their statement goes on to say, "The CDCP is an opportunity to help millions of Canadians who do not have an oral health care plan, but this program needs work sustainably for both patients and dentists." So, the Association hasn't made any dictates. However, that said, as we all understand, there is still some clarifications desired by all as the plan evolves.
Mine's syncing just fine now. They fixed the issue a long time ago. Have you completed a Bluetooth connection? The machine itself transmits data wirelessly to myAir using mobile cellular technology
