On topic: that looked like fun! Off topic: Dang it! Seeing the guy (already forgot his name) who stole my Octane 91 reminded me I was going to send him a text. Thought I took a picture of his truck (which has his number on it), but guess I didn't. If you're reading this bud, give me a shout!
The Coquihalla Canyon is classified as 6! You can view it from the Othello tunnel/bridges. I am not aware of anyone paddling it. Maybe expert kayakers at optimal flow? We did the standard run and put in near Carolin mine Road highway bridge and took out 500 meters downstream of the Othello highway bridge on the Othello tunnel road. The run is very shallow and a bit sketchy upstream of Sowaqua Creek though. I might start there in the future.
Thanks for posting! This run was my first whitewater trip in the fall of 1977 with 4pp 12’ paddle rafts at much higher water (~1700cms)…we flipped in the Cauldron swam left at the Cuttingboard righted and paddled like heck over big waves in Jaws. I’ve been hooked ever since. The River is life. 🌊😍 🌎🌊🌲🔥🌪
Another really exciting canoeing film, Kieren! "So many waves in there that are like...boat flippers!" Yeah, and that might even be an understatement! Love the visuals (self-leveling Go-Pro video? cool!) and the music fits well too.
Thanks Hermann! The GoPro 9 self levels using the sofware. So the actual camera still shakes around but the image is automatically adjusted to keep the horizon and the main focus from shifting or shaking too much. its pretty rad. Makes it much less nausea inducing to watch.
@@Krock909 I was thinking more along the lines of a boat that can actually ROLL. Or at least, I dunno, use a paddle that can actually BRACE on BOTH sides!!
Very nice! Thank you very much for this. Definitely a wilder river than the Bow here in canmore. I think i can handle the Lardeau part. Would probably be better to know i can though (before trying loaded). Do you ever see drift boats going down the Lardeau? **Also pretty impressed that you're doing that in a canoe. I tried once with a guy in his and we didnt make 200 meters before swamping.
Was supposed to do this almost exact trip mid-August until one of my partners broke his ankle a few weeks prior. Debating hiking up or flying up to the alpine depending on the cost. You had great weather. What week was this?
You could go either way in terms of the hiking. Its a good trail and not too too steep to Ptarmigan from Turner. Still long though. Its pretty luxurious to be flown up though! Yes we had good weather but windy up the lake chain in the afternoons, but that is to be expected. We went last week of August.
Tilt and lean are not the same. Jennifer is tilting left effectively. It looks like she is leaning a little right cause she is doing a “J-tilt” that is she is tilting left but keeping her body curved to stay in balance.
We’re some of the extreme parts of this video at the Buchanan creek “unnavigable channel” part of the river? I went floating down Shuswap not knowing about this lol
This is in the Skookumchuck Canyon. It’s just below Mabel Lake. Just below where Kingfisher Creek comes in. Never heard of Buchanan Creek. Definitely navigable, but nope not a section float into on a tube unawares!
Thanks Tom. I’m always trying to Improve my skills. It takes a lot of practice to get good. Yes I know I can be a little overly directive in terms of giving stroke commands instead of just the big picture. It was the way I was originally taught as well as to guide. I’m working to adjust my style though. My partner doesn’t really do much white water paddling though. She still likes canoeing though, she really prefers more relaxing lake water trips.
Thanks Nels. Nothing special. It’s on my helmet. You just keep your hood loose. Your head needs yo stay steady for balance anyways. You just focus on not looking around unnecessarily.
Many Canoes - video speaks of an active, fun filled canoe season. No more reassuring sight than Many Canoes....thanks for posting Keiran and thanks for all of your contributions on the year.
