Erased, but for those lucky enough to live there always in our hearts and never forgotten. I lived in Cardstone from 1983 to 1988. I lived opposite the post office and tennis court with my family and attended school in grades 1-3. I will forever treasure my memories of the people and place.💕
Thanks so much for that video. It brought a tear to my eye, a rare event. I lived at Cardstone from about 1961 to 1965-6; did school from Gr1 to Gr4 there; both the "old school" and the "new" one. My father worked there again later on from 1983? to 1987 when he retired and I visited often. It was a wonderful time in my life and that of our family. I'm going to visit again soon. Miss the place.
Hey mate, lovely video, lot's of Cardstone people really appreciate this video. There is a 100 year anniversary event that they are doing in Tully and I am putting together a few videos. Just wondering if it'd be possible to show this video as they want Cardstone footage? Obviously would give full credit and want to make sure everything is all good copyright-wise. Thanks mate.
I grant you full permission to use the footage, it would be an honor to have it played back to past residents of this once prosperous and beautiful locale.👍🙂
Myself have not been out to the area, after the event, but I assume it's working because aircraft are flying in and out without restrictions?? Wangan got considerable water through the area, as usual??
I will check it out in the coming days, I used to fly myself @ Mundoo, doing a pilots license with Bob Harris's Flying School quite some years ago. Be interesting to see how the area faired??
Not that we could see, the river flow was quite fast, apparently nearly 15kts, I would say that all the critters escaped to high ground, they are very perceptive to flooding and danger??😁👍
thanks very much for the video! i used to live in innisfail 20 years ago. nice to see the place again, despite the unfortunate flooding. stay dry, stay safe!👍
Nowhere near 900mm overnight. Never let a lie get in the way of good yarn though haha. Hardest hit in the area was mena Creek which got 530mm in 24hr period
@TheComputergaz when you say overnight that's saying a 12hr period. 900mm in 12hrs is ridiculous. I was told Mullumbimby had 900mm in a 24hr period in the Lismore floods last year which is hard to believe but 900mm overnight no way. Most of the rain fell in Kuranda which had 620mm in 24hrs
I don't know about that, certainly make the competition more sporting?? You have a great incentive to not fall into the water, and if you do, you'll make the next Olympic swimming team:)
Brought back lots of childhood memories both good and bad. Seen our house for the last time Brought tears to my eyes. Stood on those front stairs as an bride with Dad beside me. He's also gone. Lost my younger brother while living here. 35 years ago. But we had some great time in the village and in the river. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you liked it, I was out there today after 33 years, and there is still remnants of the old village still visible in places, apparently in 2018, it was cleaned up quite considerably, to the point where a lot of building slabs and building remains are still evident, even the roads!!
I'm not entirely sure, I know they are General Electric Diesels, after the original Rolls Royce diesels were replaced because of lack of parts apparently??
Yes! You are correct, the service does go from Cairns to Forsyth, we just picked the service up from Mount Surprise and covered that leg of the journey only. We are endeavouring to do the trip from Cairns to Mount Surprise in the future!
I did the trip from Cairns to Forsayth and back twenty years ago. It was a freight train with one passenger car of wooden benches. We slept on the train benches and got food when they stopped to load or unload freight. At Forsayth we got dinner and I slept in a converted shipping container with a screen door, a window and a fan. It was the best sleep I ever had. Had breakfast in the morning and back to Cairns. I think it cost me $60 Australian.
