Diamond is not really rare folks.. kimberlite pipes are.. diamond also forms in fault lines... rivers, creeks and dry washes are fault lines, all over the Planet... they extend down to the semi molten mantle and are more than 45km deeper than the deepest kimberlite, which are associated with asteroid strikes... fault lines are part of our Planet, and they are what keeps the Earth a living Planet
Diamond has the highest melting point so it precipitates out in great abundance.. accompanied by silicon carbide, both are semi metals with 4 electrons in the outer valence orbit... this formation is at just below 3800°C.. next is Al2O3, then high temperature transition metals, but they are trace elements ==>> then: AuPt. . Gold Platinum Alloy... it's not rare either... volcanic ash from the KT extinction event covers the Earth... that's primarily what it is... we mine here in Arizona in the Gila River& have very nice, but so far, opaque red and green diamond.. small enough to make deBeers happy... the Cinta Largo tribe in Brazil found that there's a very very limited market for large, very expensive diamond.. they sell the rest as other things, notably topaz, amethyst and citrine... it's 10 on the Moh's scale of hardness... the Chinese don't have deBeers.. and they cut beautiful diamonds.. on eBay... diamond shows color and sparkles around the periphery... because when they are cut correctly the planes of cleavage are facing up... it's the bottom of the stone.. the colors in diamond are caused by the depth of formation, and the associated radioactive C14 ☢... it's a beta emitter.. almost as dangerous as old fashioned television tubes... but not quite
They are still on the planet .they are just redistributing the wealth instead of just one mine owner having all the diamonds they make it possible for everyone to own one. Or a turn wearing a diamond if you are a communist : )
