You commit to d3 schools, in a lot of cases they offer you “need based” or academic scholarships that substitute for the “athletic” scholarships. D3 schools are great for academics including MIT and UChicago
You dont go to divisons based on skill (outside of recruitment). You go based on money and time commitment. D1 offers the biggest scholarship and most comp. Which is why its praised. However it takes up like 4 - 6 hours of your day to be a d1 athlete. Meanwhile d3 is acedemic based with no scholarships. He prob only has 1 - 2 hours of practice
