The stars of the show are my two miniature chocolate dapple Dachshunds - Adventurewieners if you will - Summit and Gretel.
I may call them wiener dogs, weens, or fur kids from time to time, but never sausage dog because I hate that it implies overweight, "stuffed" and fat are cute.
Gretel is an IVDD Dachshund and, although she has experiences several flareups over the years, it doesn't stop her from living a happy, fulfilled life.
I (Jessica) have been studying the breed for over 15 years. You can find more at our award-winning blog YouDidWhatWithYourWiener.com.
My family just got a Dachsie like Brodie. His name is Baloo, about 14 weeks. We are loving the heck out of him. Learning the ins and outs of owning a Dachshund. 🍻
There is nothing in life that can’t be made better by watching a wiener dog walk from behind! I giggle every time I take mine for a walk, it never gets old!
@@YouDidWhatWithYourWiener Yes, there's those. I can't remember any particular sounds when we backyard camped, but I DO remember the neighbors' porch light being on all night. That was a little annoying.
It’s nice that your dogs are smaller! I carry menstrual pads, small socks and Coban (same as vet wrap), as well as the human first aid stuff. And sometimes I bring their booties also. 👍
Oh, yeah, menstrual pads are a great idea for wound care! This is just my little day-hiking first aid kit. I'll post about my backpacking and car first aid kits later. My dogs are small, but I probably carry more for my small dogs that most people do for their big dogs. Ha, ha.
Well done you! The definition of a dachshund is “stubborn”.We know;-we’ve owned three so far!🤣 One black and tan mini bitch, and now have our second black and tan standard long-hair,William,now approaching his thirteenth birthday. All lovely little characters.Love’em❤️(William is one of a litter of eight! Six B&T,and two silver dapples.Choice of him,or a dapple dog when we went to see them.HE chose ME!😄)
My first Dachshund was black and tan 🙂 I'm on my 4th of my own, but I Dachshund sit, sometimes for 6 weeks at a time, so it's like I've owned a bunch of them already 🤣
I just found and I am so glad. I got my first Dachshund 3 days ago and the biting and potty training!!! I was expecting the potty issues but she's like a little monster when she starts biting EVERYTHING! Hearing you say those are the 2 most common things with puppies has given me some hope! I look forward to watching you and getting more information to help me with my baby. Thank you!
Congratulations. My article on potty training may help. youdidwhatwithyourweiner.com/potty-training-a-dachshund-15-tips-and-protocol-for-success/ Let me know if you have any puppy questions.
@YouDidWhatWithYourWiener thank you so much for your response and for the article. Do you have any tips on how to stop all the biting and nipping? She gets into a frenzy sometimes, and nothing I have been doing seems to be working. Thanks again!
@davina9230 Here is an article I wroulte that might hrlp: formydachshund.com/how-to-get-your-dachshund-puppy-to-stop-nipping-and-biting/ In a many cases, a puppy thst is extra bitey is overtired and need a nap.
Hi, my puppy is 10 1/2 weeks and no way she would sit sweetly like Otter. She would immediately start biting and squirming. She has been home 2 weeks and we have never cuddled. She has made my husband bleed multiple times. It makes any kind of training difficult because she is less interested in food and more interested in biting. I have never held her more than 10 seconds. I see your sweet affectionate puppy and it's quite heartbreaking realizing this is not going to be our experience. Hoping she grows out of it at some point.
Yes, she did. She returned to the hiking life. She's 14 now, and aches and pains are starting to get to her, but she can still walk and hike for a few miles.
@YouDidWhatWithYourWiener that's the best news. So happy she recovered and is still with you. We have 3 Dachys (7yr, 2yr and 21weeks) plus a 14year Old English Sheepdog (obviously the little one boss him around). He's now showing signs of aches, pains and muscle wastage in back legs so we have been doing daily physio with him to relieve as much stiffness and pain as possible. It definitely helps. He still loves his walks but sadly we can no longer hike like we used to.....I have the little ones to join me hiking..take care and have many more happy hikes with Gretel.
This was so great hearing everything about bringing Otter home! So fun to see how Brody has been interacting with Otter. So good to hear about the potty training. Love hearing about the training.
Thanks for sharing your family and your new baby Otter! We are foster parents to dachshunds so learning how to integrate new dogs into our home with our two Caviar 5yrs & Bollicina 4yrs. Your tips are much appreciated & anticipated. Looking forward to your next video 🙏🐾
@@YouDidWhatWithYourWiener hi again. We are relatively new to fostering dachshunds, having now had 3 in our home over the last 6 months! We are on a hiatus at the moment due to me having back surgery in early December 2023! We will pick up our fostering hats again in February 2024 and look forward to having more little souls in our home.
Well done. Glad that trainer spoke up. I’ll remember that because we don’t have a solid routine, just if I do something, you all need to use the time to rest.
I love your space, Jessica, and how quiet it was although you had the 5 little ones around. Great job managing them. 👏🏻 We downsized from a 2500 sf house to a 1200 sf apartment, and I wouldn’t mind going tinier still. As long as I can fit Wally’s raw dog food freezer, it works for me. 🙃
