When I was a teenager those slices were a quarter and a coke was a dime. You had to walk all the way down the boardwalk but it was worth it! Dinner for 35 cents! Growing up down the shore was great!
My husband and I just had our first pizza from there today and we will definitely be back! It was one of the best pizza's that we have ever had! I told my husband the same thing you said about the whole pizza having the same crunch the whole way through, from the middle to the ends and also a nice chewy feel!

I watched this today! Modern Apizza is awesome. I never had such a nicely flavored classic cheese pizza as good as Modern. Took a trip to New haven in April 2021 from San Diego for the NH Apizza & NYC Pizza tour-one of the best trips of my life.

great pizza but know what you buy. the first time I ordered it for delivery, I asked for 2 slices - took me two days to eat it! Wow! Excellent episode! Thank you!

Excellent sound mixing, Tony Roni! I really did believe you guys were there in NYC for a second ! lol. _"I mean, we're looking down on [New York City]. Only that's not [New York City]. isn't that weird?"_ But what day was it really? 🤔 HA! I jest. Crusty, I admire your restraint with giving those up. I couldn't do it. I tried once. It was a Tuesday morning. I mean, take away my macaroni _and_ my cheese? who can live like that!? Side note: I just decided what I'm having for lunch today. You know something, Peeta? People used to call me "good and playful" too!
I've never eaten cardboard myself, so I don't know if this comparison is correct, but I've come to realize from watching your videos and reevaluating my own pizza habits that some of my favorite crusts literally have no flavor. And yet I love them. I mean it tastes like dough, but there's no added flavor. Is that what cardboard crust is? Am I lame for liking something so basic? Perhaps I am just a simple man with simple needs.
The last pizza I had in New York, the crust was literally like cardboard. I've yet to have a truly great slice there. Not sure what all the hype is about. 🤷♀️
The camera work was very cinematic in this episode. I especially loved the opening shot. Excellent Work! It was sweet how Tony Roni kept recalling memories of his childhood through the slice of pizza. I'm glad it was as he remembered. Makes it more special.

That pizza does look and *sound* amazing. Plus, we all got to finally learn why there's basil in the cheese graphic. Because basil is cheese. who knew!?
It's a rockin' slice of pizza, no doubt. I tend to order their meat slices like Angry Nonna and 18th Avenue, but the house slice with the basil is a great way to try Mamas Too. Today they had a "bruschetta" slice that was pretty darned inspired.
Brilliant! Loved the quick-cut editing and I can't wait for the full season! I consider you all world-class. Pre-Pizza times sounds like a terrible place to be.

LOL! Thanks Kurtis! I could say we spent HOURS planning outfits for the New Haven shoot but that would be a total fib. In fact, Peeta and Crusty SURPRISED ME for my birthday in April - - - practically a kidnapping as you can tell by how disheveled I appear in some of the episodes. I had no clue we were departing for an overnight adventure AND none of us were prepared for the Nor'easter that swept in the following morning - as witnessed by the driving rain both at Zuppardi's and Modern Apizza. Totally catch-as-catch-can and making do with what was found in the knapsacks. BUT TOTALLY FUN AND DEELISH, TOO!
WOW! You sure were paying close attention! Indeed we shot our Apizza Season this past April over the course of two days. If you caught our episode at Modern Apizza, you'll notice we mention it's April during the rating section. We felt the Jersey Shore and Boardwalk Seasons were more time-sensitive and needed to be presented over the summer and New Haven could wait for the fall as students were returning in person. That crust looked and sounded tasty! Whenever I get a square-cut round pizza, my favorite slices are the little "corner" pieces that are basically just crust with a tiny bit of toppings because that crunch is just so satisfying. my favorite crust is still pan style though because i like the softer bread-like crust but with that crispy edge.
Written by a true proud Mid-westerner! The "war" over thin vs thick crust will thrive at least as long as the "Great Pineapple Controversy." And the bottom line is if it makes you go all yummy and do a happy dance they're all wonderful, so - as you imply - embrace them all and live in a Pizza Paradise!!! We owe it to ourselves. LOL! - Thanks for the feedback Roberta. Actually, italians don't ALWAYS eat pizza with a knife and fork - it's no longer considered bad form to eat it - and many other things - by hand. Even at sit down, nowadays you see many eating it with their hands. And on the street - - unless you have three arms, not much you can do otherwise. But Italians definitely KNOW that a knife and fork are NOT sacrilegious. You catching my drift Peeta Peppa? LOL Tony Roni says "If it's messy, spare the dressy - use a knife and fork!"
I've been known to knife-and-fork a pizza on occasion. It depends more on the setting than the type of pie itself for me. I have a tendency to end up wearing any food I pick up with my hands, so I just have to decide do I want to appear uncool but tidy or hip but unsophisticated?. Also, sometimes you don't want to get stuff on the remote. Side note, did anyone else read the website as "Moderna Pizza"?

Connecticut is all about cheese pizza.. I'm wondering if this particular pie was an anomaly and a second visit (which is unlikely I know) get a noN clam topping.....?
As we said in the review, the white clam pizza at Frank Pepe is so unbelievably outstandingly good there's no need to go any further. But your suggestion that the odd mix of ingredients may have affected the review is also possible It won't take much to get us to go back to New Haven, that's fersure - and Peeta Peppa needs to try Pepe's white clam, without a doubt so they haven't seen the last of us.
