Personalized Arthroplasty Society (PAS) is focused on the development and promotion of personalized and more physiological techniques for hip and knee replacement. These techniques aim to better reproduce patients’ native anatomy and physiological joint laxity, therefore improving the prosthetic hip/knee kinematics and functional outcomes. The PAS will pave the way for the paradigm shift from systematic to personalised surgery.
I am not a doctor - but my research indicates that is cut when the incision is made down the center of the front of the knee. The result is some numbness in that area and on the outside of the shin which may or may not improve over time - most people dont have a problem with having some numbness there.
Kinematic alignment concerns itself more with the positioning of implants and can be done through various surgical approaches including those that attempt to preserve the infra patellar branch of the saphenous nerve.
Thanks for this. The pre-op X-rays would seem to demonstrate patella Alta with lateral tracking. Would you consider restricted correction of this as her primary complaint is patella pain; ie maintain a kinematic approach to her tibiofemoral joint, but consider a medialised patella implant with perhaps a 2 degree external rotation of the femoral implant from the posterior condylar axis? I understand the approach is restricted kinematic but it would seem the native patella position/tracking is not within a “normal range”. In the same manner that some consider a “normal” HKA to be +|- 3 degrees, with a max 5degrees femoral/tibial angles, do you believe there to be a “normal” range for native patella position?
Hello there. I am a clinical support specialist for robotic joint replacement technology. I was trained in, and continue to utilize this technology based on MA standards, however, outside of my specific territory I have heard of KA alignment with robotic knee replacements. Looking at a KA plan on a robot, I tend to get a bit weary of pre planned angles, but again I have been trained with a more MA mindset. Would there be any articles I could study to better understand KA alignment, specifically utilizing robotic technology? Thank you.
