I purchased my first E-bike in 2021 and fell in love. I hadn't ridden a bike for about 20-30 years when I decided to purchase an E-bike to help me get around Chicago. Since then, I like to film the adventures I have on my e-bikes and reviewing new E-bikes as well! Contact scott@scotthardesty.net for product reviews.
Glad to see you are ok. How’d the hike hold up? I just got mine yesterday. It seems like the power modes don’t make much difference so far. I’ve only had time to do 12 miles though. I should get another 30 in this weekend. Maybe 10-20 tonight.
Nothing worlds first about this bike - Rad Power, Tern, Aventon, Velotric and others build the same. Both Bosch and Brose offer all of these "smart" features including remote locking
@@scotthardesty As well as any Chinese made bike we pretend are from different companies. But seriously 90 lbs means you aren't lifting it into the back of an SUV without two reasonably strong people and it's too heavy for the few trike racks available. So you are limited to riding from your house unless you have a truck with a ramp. It's also not going to be fun if the battery dies or you have some electrical issue where you need to peddle home.
Just curious, but, with what you spent on the upgrades, you could have gotten all that and more on some full suspension e-mtb's. Knowing that, would you still buy the Ramblas, spending closer to $3k now and spending as much as you did on upgrades when you could buy a full-suspension, full power e-mtb for the same or, in the case of Gas Gas, much lower? I bought the Cannondale Moterra Neo 3 with the Bosch Smart System for under $4k, and now there are a lot more that you can get for under $4k that are stacked. You could get a nice Gas Gas, which is serviceable at a lot of Husquavana dealers around the country, for right around $3k now. A lot of the big traditional names (Giant, Rocky Mountain, etc) have come out with full suspension, full power e-mtb's under $4k in the last 2 months or so.
I understand your question. I already have a nice Giant full suspension bike and wanted to see what I could with this hardtail. Plus, this is content for my channel that gives people ideas on what they can do their bike if they want. It doesn't hurt that this is all a tax write off for me in the long run.
I went with the MMX PNW dropper lever to keep the clean cockpit look. Why put the clamp on there? Went with the Hunt e bike wheels on sale Memorial Day. 389.00. Went tubeless also with 2.6 Vittoria ebike Agarros. Fox 34 shock 150mm. Pnw carbon bars. I shaved 6 lbs off stock weight. Now you can lift that front end when needed. Mudrocker front fender. More coverage that works. Your bike looks good.
I went with the clamp because I like mine to sit back farther than what the MMX setup could. Sounds like you got a great deal on wheels. Actually, I think my forks are 140mm instead of the 130mm that I posted. Thanks for telling me about your build!
This was the most helpful video on either/both of these Aventon bikes I've found. At 65 I have a leg with some reduced strength as well as some knee joint problems. I've been contemplating getting an Ebike as I used to enjoy riding the backroads around town but had to give it up. I've narrowed it down to these two models as they fit my need and budget and have local shop support if needed. First test ride tomorrow. We'll see what works for me. Thanks for the help!
I chose the Level 2. Most of my riding is on bike paths and streets and I didn't like the rolling resistance with the fat tires. I'm very happy with it and have added a suspension seat post to help with the bumps.
Do you know anything about what the kind of connector is for the second battery. I like that is it built in. Here is what I am thinking. If one can make a "Invanti to XT60" extension cable I could run any battery on the downtube or load up one on the pannier bags with a generic battery. Thus making a super long range UberEats-DoorDash bike.
I was at a Rad Power Bike demo day in 2022. Their cargo bike that could carry kids was the bike everyone was interested in and wanted to test. Back then they were one of the only ones I know of on the market.
Based on your excellent you tube review I sent $1299 to Freedare Bike and have not received any notification for a tracking number and eta. I have emailed numerous times on this with no response. Do you have any contact information with this company?
The Aventure 2 is the way to go. You get the best of both worlds. It's a no-brainer. if in doubt, choose the Aventure 2. It handles all terrains for all types of riders. I've had no disappointment pushing mine to the limit!
Base price for an indiegogo sale is kinda high and extra accessories are a steep premium. Hard to not want to go with the lectric Xpedition over this. And Lectric often throws in accessories for free.
If it was a class 3 I think it would be a toy to consider. I was surprised it made it up the hill. I missed how much NM of torque it has? It must make one feel you're too wide when on the right side being use to a regular bike? As always, you did a good video Scott 👍
I could not see me wanting to be on this bike if it did over 20mph. It has 55Nm of torque. I was constantly thinking about my width when passing people and cars. If I rode this bike on the daily, I am sure I would get used to it, but yes, it was in the back of mind.
Great review! Do they have any fat tire trikes? I prefer a trigger throttle to a twist throttle. Looks nice, needs some fat tires and a non-folding version.
They do have a FAT Tire Trike! I also prefer a trigger throttle over twist throttle but I didn't find myself using the twist the throttle much so it didn't bother me at all.
Interesting about the balance issue. I just put 2 people on it that do not ride any Type of bikes and they did not even notice that issue. Curious about the parking brake as the one I have. Has a front and rear parking brake. Great job on the review, b t w
@scotthardesty Honestly, it is not just you, it was me as well. I think it is just that we get used to riding 2 wheelers. And if we're not used to that, this leaning is not a big deal. I have put several people that did ride bikes on it. And they all felt the same way. The ones that did not do any riding never said much about it.
WARNING: ⚠"UNITED KINGDOM BUYERS, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY" I RECENTLY PURCHASED - 20 APRIL 2024 - { WITH MY OWN HARD-EARNED MONEY) THE ENGINE PRO 2.0. I HAD VERY HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR IT, AND THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED. It's important to note that non-RU-vidrs, like myself, who are enticed by videos showcasing the fully unlocked versions of the Pro 2.0, may be in for an enormous and very bitter disappointment. I, too, fell for this and purchased the 2.0, expecting a thrilling 27 mph ride {packaged received on the 2nd of May 2024}. For this reason, I am still determining if, before this date, the Engine Pro and Engine Pro 2.0 have been sold with the actual feature allowing you to unlock these bikes to full power}. However, I was shocked to discover that the speed was locked to 15 MPH. This renders the 750-watt motor and 75 Nm torque completely useless, as it's impossible to reach a speed that would genuinely challenge this level of power. Furthermore, the ride is not just disappointing; it's downright frustrating. The power surges, only to abruptly cut off when you hit the 15 mph top speed. Then, it gradually decreases until it reaches 12 mph, and it surges again to bring your speed back up to 15 mph, causing you to jerk back and forth like you're riding a camel in the Sahara desert, AND THERE IS NO WAY TO ALTER THIS. Forget about all the supposed power the Engine Pro 2.0 has if you can only do 15 mph. Consider this: Imagine driving a Ferrari or a Lamborghini with immense power and torque but limited to a 15 mph top speed. You'd be cruising with a powerful engine and tech to reach higher power and torque, but it would be pointless. This is the Engine Pro 2.0 in a nutshell; you have a powerful motor and capabilities, which means you're carrying extra weight for no good reason; you'd be better off with a much lighter 250-watt motor, which means less strain on the battery. The throttle is a complete joke and utterly useless. Yes, it's possible to activate it-but guess what? It only propels you to a 4-mph speed, which is only useful if you need to walk with the bike beside you. That’s it. If you're at a traffic light and expect the throttle to assist you in taking off, forget it. It won't budge; you have to pedal. Also, I went as far as taking it to a few Ebike specialists. After doing several checks and running several tests on the Engine Pro 2.0, they concluded and explained that the manufacturer fully locked the bike. I repeat, IMPOSSIBLE; it is impossible to unlock it, as several marketing videos show. I CONTACTED ENGWE, AND THEY JUSTIFIED THE NONSENSE AND DODGY FALSE ADVERTISING BY VOMITING ABOUT THE UK LAW. BLAH BLAH BLAH, THIS COMPANY ARE BAST@RDS; THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE DOING. To make clear, I am not preaching about breaking the law; I want a bike that you can fully unlock when you are on private land, which is where I ride all the time and then lock back to 15 mph, disable the throttle as the UK law indicates when taking it on public law regulated roads. I HAVE THE RIGHT TO SEND IT BACK AND HOPE FOR A REFUND. So far, Engwe is not responding to my pleads for my money back; they clearly don’t like to hear about returns and refunds, sure, so this company, Engwe, sticks by the UK law when it comes to speed but is NOT interested in UK law when it comes down to full refunds. I doubt very much that RU-vidrs don’t know what is going on. I doubt they are unaware they are getting an unlocked version (not sold unlocked in the UK), but I doubt they are unaware as these are paid-for reviews; I should have known better. No one takes the trouble to do a review saying wonderful things about a product for free. COME ON!! HOW STUP£" AND NAIVE I'VE BEEN. Again, unlocking the Engwe Engine Pro 2.0 is impossible if you buy it in the UK. STEAR CLEAR! I am extremely disappointed with Engwe and RU-vidrs, whom I no longer trust; they sell their positive review videos for brand-new bikes, which they can easily recycle into money by selling them. In addition, RU-vidrs either verbally advertise the link to the bike down below or it will be there, and every time fools like myself buy a bike following the link of a RU-vidr, they cash in. So, of course, they want these bikes to be sold; it is a win-win situation for them.
It is a technique that should be done with new brakes. Not only does it keep them from squeaking but makes "beds" them in so they work better. Here is a video that explains it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o4l86b2nHOQ.htmlsi=Sifg38_AgklXMElD
Wow you’re one of the best, straightforward reviewers I’ve seen! I don’t subscribe to reviewers but just to support how nicely you make your videos I’m gonna sub
Just to be sure....You were NOT pedalling during the "throttle only" segment?? I ask because I would need to depend on the electric power to a large degree. Thanks!
