When I was 12 my mom took me to the LV on Bloor Street in Toronto. I had my fake LV from luxrul on my arm and thought I was cute. The sweet sales ladies let me try on a bag and a pair of heels knowing we were not wealthy and couldn't afford to purchase anything. It as really nice. No one seemed to care I had a fake bag and I felt special. They even gave me a paper shopping bag which I used as a lunch bag for weeks after! :) Who cares if people don't have real ones? I'm 30 now and ironically, although I can afford them I still prefer real people with fake bags than fake people with real bags. Just saying :) (not that everyone who carries a real one is bad or vice versa.) Just means I don't care if people carry fakes.
The difference between we Americans and Europeans is that they check their bags far more than we do. Why we have to have all of our stuff within arm's reach is silly. Here's a tip. If taking a carry on, it's inevitable that the airline (delta short hops especially) will ask for volunteers to gate check. One less thing to carry & lift ON the plane, and it's waiting for you as soon as you step off. I do it all the time. On international flights, I check my bag, even if it's carry on size. Put an airtag in it, and if it DOES get lost, you get reimbursed...so buy some new clothes at your destination. Why are we so obsessed with carrying all of our luggage on the plane? (and outsmarting the airlines)
Most of my flights and trips are pretty fast paced, and a lot of my destinations are remote. This involves a lot of flights, terminal changes, airline changes, etc. If my bag was checked, and didn't make it to one of the destinations, I likely will not get it back for my entire trip, as an airline worker wouldn't chase me through the country, to another country, onto a boat, etc. This happens to a lot of people I know: Not having their bag for their entire trip to the Maldives, or Madagascar, or even Antarctica. I'll stick to a carry on... forever.
@@ItsTheKellys If I were a "professional" RU-vid traveller, I might think differently. But as a typical vacationer of one or two trips a year, I find it's just less of a hassle to simply check my main bag. I do take a personal under seat size item for my meds, and two days worth of clothes in the event my bag gets to my location after I do.
I don't ever do laundry, really. I will re-wear. But if something gets dirty where I cannot wear it again, I may pay to send it out, if my hotel offers it.
I’m an experienced international traveler, and an ultralight backpacker, so I’ve generally got my packing strategies dialed in. For domestic trips with the family, though, I actually love this bag system so much and here’s why: 1) I absolutely loathe living out of my suitcase, so I already pack hangers and hang my clothes in the hotel closet. 2) what I can’t hang, I already unpack into the hotel dresser or the bathroom sink/vanity table. 3) I already store my luggage in the hotel closet so it’s out of the way. 4) I share my hotel rooms with a billion other people, and I’m the only one who uses the closet, so this just makes it so I use the closet only, and not the dresser drawers. So for me for domestic travel, this actually saves me the hassle of packing hangers, unpacking everything in my suitcase and putting my stuff around the room, and hanging all my clothes. Now I just hang my packed closet, and unpack the left hand side onto the vanity counter or bathroom sink. It’s actually streamlined an already dialed in routine, which I love. I absolutely love a streamlined process. However, I admit that I’m a niche market. Packing cubes are going to be the better way to go for 90+% of the travelers out there, and I can’t even sit here and say that’s not the case. But as a light packer who travels with way too many companions when I travel domestically, this bag system is clutch. I should add that I also have some physical disabilities, so my luggage is handled predominantly by my travel buddies- I’ve never had to lift it overhead. But I can backpack for 10 days with a pack weighing 26 pounds (including 8L of water and all my food) while hiking ~10 to 12 miles a day, so lifting 26 pounds overhead for 45 seconds isn’t crazy heavy. For some people it will be heavier than they can lift, but it’s not insanely heavy. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents. Good for what it’s good for, and not for what it’s not.
Thank you so much for doing this video. I just ordered my first beis luggage the small carry on and after placing order I realized they also have the carry one roller which you mentioned while describing it initially how big it is and how many issues you had and small carry on is better while travelling internationally. I am so relieved I made a good choice I was questioning whether I made a wrong choice of getting small carry on I got it in atlas pink. I am travelling to India and few trips to us n next year 1 trip to Paris. So this is so helpful ! Less anxious now 😂❤
I recently commented on having you do a video matching the Turkish airlines weight limit, and here it is! :) I am watching your unpacking video now stating that you were never weighed and I am so perplexed on what to do! I have several airlines I will be flying, but my first flight, Turkish, is the only one with this weight limit, so if they don't weigh me, I'm golden, if the do, right from the start.... :) Thanks Lauren for doing all of these videos, I am a first time heading to Europe, solo traveler and this is so very helpful.
@@ItsTheKellys oh. I live in sunny California. Everyone in the entire world moved here, causing an over population. When I go to make an appointment. California or Arizona is not listed. Typical. She said many people travel 5 hours to Arizona for their appointment. Of course, that is not listed either. I spoke with a TSA agent at Staples. She said Good luck. My best bet is to take that trip on the way back in provided your Conditional global number.
I purchased this bag last December for a trip to Croatia. The closet was the main reason for the purchase but it😂 was quickly noted that if the closet was packed as directed by Mr. Solgaard 60-70 % that the other side became almost useless. I will try it out on our next trip to Banff but this time I will use packing cubes. I have a feeling it will work much more efficiently. I don't regret the purchase but I do regret the high price even with the discount at $295.00
@@ItsTheKellys we made it to Spain. All 3 were checked ( for free). 1 blue heys a few scruffs, the heys light pink lots of black marks ( but should clean up) and July no scruffs a few s to clean up. All wheels still wheeling! So 2 days here then off to the port for 11 day cruise ( Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Croatia), I still only brought capsule wardrobe . Using in addition to the carryons… Pacsafe Bp and purse, Scottie Vest hoodie( has like 20 pockets) and the neck pillow that you stuff with clothes. Thanks so much for all your content. I feel much better at packing lighter in a carryon only. In the past I packed way too much. 8 pairs of shoes? Clothes I didn’t wear! In a carryon and LARge suitcase for a 7 day cruise. Oh also my Heys were not expanded and I’m the metal basket size thingy. The girl said they had to slide in without forcing. This was at check in and not the gate. When I got to the gate I think it was a packed plane and in both Dallas and Toronto they made everyone put in the sizer before they could board. Will I have an excuse to try that new BÉIS!!!!!
Thanks for sharing your top 10 favourite attractions Lauren & Brian! I loved the top 10 attraction videos from Prague and Krakow too. We're going to Vienna soon and I think we're planning to go to the library. If we go, I'll let you know how it is 😊
I'd like to see one of these videos for men. Capsule packing for example-I have not problem really, but no one counts us guys in when doing these videos!
I bought the Foldie for the 2 for 1 deal. One zipper pull broke off during my first use, and the second broke after my fourth use when I was out of town. The bag would not close, and I couldn’t get the zipper pull to go back on the tracks. I haven’t used the second Foldie. I probably won’t take it as my personal item on a flight. It might become a gym bag or an in case of emergency extra bag. Fortunately I had a Tripped Travel Gear backpack with me, so I used it as my personal item on my flight home. Buyer beware!
I actually unpack, and hang my stuff up. No need to dig around my suitcase everyday. Don't over pack. Simple. Leaving a suitcase full of crap for your stay is just lazy.
Thank you for this. Now I have to see if AA will take the Hegent on international flights. Btw what is the bag in the back to the right of the olive level 8? I thought it was the carl friedrick but that had a brown handle.
Done a great job but here lately they're calling for people to gate check their bags having to take out personal items they don't want to be gate checked and there are several items that you have that you'd have to stumble around and decide where those things are going to go since you don't have a personal bag. Which includes your computer your personal items your passport etc and if you don't take a personal bag where you gonna put all that stuff that you don't want to get checked? But just to say I love your videos❤
I always have a carry-on with clothes and accessories and a backpack with anything important. If they make me check my carry-on, which very rarely happens to me, then so be it. Anything I need that is important is in the backpack anyway.
Aer - thank you for introducing me to this brand. It looks so great and I really want it but doh! It’s out of stock! Can’t wait for your review of it…Mostly it’s men reviewing this bag so it will be nice to see a female’s take.
Somehow I think I didn't finish this video and I came back to complete it and I'm so glad that I did because I love your explanation that's much more clear now regarding the capsule wardrobe and how to go about preparing it
Have you tried wearing the neck pillow ont Easy Jet or Ryan Air.. they are really strict.. Also I assume you have to be careful with no metal to not set off the alarm.. and.. what about a metal zipper.. Brilliant idea though!
You can take whatever through TSA in the bin, its just like any other neck pillow, just stuffed with clothes. it’s all about the gate agents and what they allow. But if they don’t allow a normal looking neck pillow, that’s insane.
Thank you so much for this video. I have been considering a Monos carry on expandable but wasn't sure about how it worked or how it would be an advantage - now I know! Buying it TODAY!
Hey Lauren, I've started watching your videos, really happy with them! I am a Monos person, I own the Carry-On Plus, the Carry-On Pro and the Duffle Bag. I am traveling for the first time to Europe and I am waffling between the original Carry-On (because of its weight), but am super interested in the Hybrid as my next case. My worry with the weight is I am flying Turkish Airlines who has a 17.6lb weight limit so an extra lb for the hybrid can make the difference. As an aside on this topic since you are all about packing, I would love to see a video on packing for a Turkish Airlines flight (3 1/2 week European vacation, btw).
@@ItsTheKellys Thank you so much for saying this. I have scoured the internet to find this specific answer because my flight originates in Seattle, and I have an overnight in Istanbul where I believe I can store my luggage airside for the night, so it won't have to come through Istanbul security with me the next morning. My weight should be fine for all other inter country flights and my final flight home. I watched your packing/unpacking video and you just saved me that same angst you had! :)
I loved your video and I just have to say your eyes look gorgeous! Have fun in PNG. I’ve heard of Gorlovka as I arch Ryan, a missionary bush pilot who flies to all the remote villages. It’s so beautiful there…enjoy your vacation!
