There is a myth going around particularly by Americans about rain in Ireland. It does not rain all the time in Ireland, we get as much sunshine as any other Northern hemisphere. What it does do is it rains unexpectedly, but it never lasts. In fact the temperature in Ireland is fairly moderate the whole year round. It rarely snows in winter with temperatures are around 14 celsius and never goes beyond 25 celsius in summer. There are exceptions of course.
@PinterWhitnick

We were most surprised by the temperature. It’s much more like our Pacific Northwest. But a lot of our feelings in the video were less about surprise and more about relief after not feeling the sunshine much for months! It was such a beautiful day!

Thank you so much for your kind words! Alex's family name is English and on his mom's side is Scottish, and Kayleigh's great-grandpa was Scottish, but then lived in Donegal before moving to Michigan. (We think we have it figured out that far at least!) We don't know why, but we just feel a really strong connection to Ireland that makes us feel at home. We found a flight from Chicago that only cost us $250 each roundtrip if we had layovers in Stockholm. The Aer Lingus flights were about $500 at the time if I recall correctly. It was definitely worth that price! Thank you for taking the time to say hello and Derry is one place we haven't been yet. Maybe next time! :)

Thank you for making this video! It’s very helpful in helping me plan my solo backpacking trip to the UK next summer. I especially appreciate all the vegan food reviews, as I am also vegan. As to that naysayer comment above, there are plenty of non-vegan vloggers all over RU-vid and it is very difficult for vegans to find a place to eat when traveling! Keep up the great work with these videos and I’m subscribing! ❤

That's so fantastic to hear! You're going to have the BEST time! ❤ We feel the same way about highlighting vegan recommendations. 95% of all travel videos ever made feature non-vegan local food. So if we can pass on our experiences and help even just one person find cruelty-free options, we're going to do that! Food is such an important part of travel and culture and there's no reason to shy away from that just because we're vegan. :)

Hi guys. As a backpacking grandma I was thrilled to get names of hostels. Will make my one week in September much easier. You may wish to consider practical information in your videos as a guide to others. For example. How did you get from airport to the hostel? From the hostel to the station?And the cost of everything. I agree that you are doing an excellent job. So often people have the music too loud.
@PinterWhitnick

Hi there. Thank you so much for your kind message! We appreciate your thoughts on more practical information. We do try to find a balance between typical travel videos that might be like "Top Ten Things to Do in X" and a sort of documentary about the places we're visiting. We've found that the majority of videos on RU-vid lean towards the practical and don't show enough of the little moments that make traveling so special to us! But to give a little information about how we travel, we typically walk everywhere we can. Even with all of our bags. Often it's the times between destinations where we find the most surprises and beauty. But from the Dublin airport to the city center, we took a bus, as we mentioned. I believe we took the Swords Express. From there on out, we walked to and from all of the hostels and stations until taking a city bus to the Belfast Airport, and a train (the 500 Airport Express) from the Glasgow Airport to the city center. Those timetables are easy to find on Google Maps which is what we use. As for the cost, our total for transportation (including flights and our rental cars in the US to get to and from New York) was $775 per person. For accommodations, we averaged around $30 per person/night. Most of our cost was of course food, drinks, and activities. We didn't keep really close track of that. We hope that gives you some insights and makes planning your trip easier! You're going to have the best time! Thanks again for watching. :)

I've watched a lot of vlogs about the British Isles and this is the best by far. You are two thoroughly delightful individuals who clearly have an eye for detail and captured the essence of where you visited. Nothing was rushed, music was appropriate and commentary informative. Nice to see you enjoying the food and a pint or two. You packed a lot in for two weeks but there's much more to see in the UK. Hope to see you back someday. Good luck with everything you do xx.

Thank you so much for your kind words! We are constantly in awe of the places we travel and if we can capture even a small amount of its character in a video, then we’re happy. But of course, nothing compares to being there in person! Your comment means a lot to us and it keeps us wanting to continue this journey. We are currently sitting in a pub in Bath at the beginning of a two month backpacking trip through Europe! We got to spend a couple more days in London before going to Bath, Salisbury, and Stonehenge. But we definitely plan to come back again (maybe next year) to see the Highlands and more! Cheers and thank you so much again. 🍻

Having a nice time watching your videos so thanks for sharing your enjoyment. Not a vegan myself but I am Scottish so I'm chuffed that you're on the sauce in pubs. That book signing for your family in Edinburgh was touching. Since this video regards Harry Potter, I wonder what the thoughts are from both of you on Jo Rowling's comments and perspectives in recent times which have brought her much abuse and derision. If you don't want to share then fair enough, I'm interested in the thoughts from those outside our Isles, but for me it's a sad indictment of our time when opinions are suppressed, lest they be deemed acceptable by those dictating the narrative. Be well, cheers from Scotland 🍻

@@PinterWhitnick Thanks very much, not only for your reply but for sharing your wondrous experiences. I understand your point, a troubled childhood would be the polite terminology of my upbringing How sad it seems though that individual perspective and opinion, one of the fundamentals to being a human, is only accepted if it concurs with the dictated narrative of the time. People are free, here in Scotland, to believe in whatever faith they believe, or none, and to critique that for which they don't. That doesn't apply here which is not just strange, it's abhorrent. I'm not forced to believe in a persons deity yet I am forced to believe in anothers delusion. Adults can believe what they like, doesn't make it true and I'm specifically talking about what she speaks. My favourite Aunt and her Wife have a great marriage. This doesn't refer to that. Be well 🍻

Just finished watching you wonderful video of your trip, you certainly packed a lot into two weeks. I have visited the Republic of Ireland a few times and have been to many of the sights and pubs you visited. As a Scot I enjoyed how you loved the architecture of Glasgow and Edinburgh which most of us just take for granted. I was particularly interested when you visited one of your relatives in Edinburgh. I worked for a few years in the same office as David Leslie the man who restored Leslie Castle and whose picture you were shown. He lived in the castle for a few years and was called Baron Leslie of Leslie, his wife was called Lesley and she became Baroness Lesley Leslie of Leslie 😁. If you return to Scotland you should visit the Highland for the wonderful scenery.

The bricking up of windows wasn't so much a British thing as a crown thing. You can find many many old buildings in England (and maybe Scotland and Wales too) where windows have been filled in to avoid the window tax. The histories of England and Ireland etc are very intertwined. My great grandfather was a carpenter who helped to create the grand staircases of both the Titanic and Olympic (sister ship). The family still have some of the woodworking tools he owned. Sad to think his handiwork lies under the Atlantic ocean!
