Welcome
On this channel I hope to share my love of gardening, backyard chickens, and urban flower farming with the world. By sharing my experience and knowledge and also learning from yours we will better this community. I want your experience here to be a positive kid/family friendly one.

We bought our home two years ago and began the process of turning an urban yard into a beautiful flower and vegetable garden. We use chickens and several no till gardening techniques to build healthy gardens. Lets grow and share our ideas together.

I will also be sharing some of my hobbies and my love of the outdoors. My hope is to inspire you to get off the couch and get outside and enjoy nature.
Enjoy and please ask questions. I'm here to help.

so, i also bought a small ready-to-grow pack: my question is: if plant this little block of germinated grass in the soil in my garden, will it spread outward?
@DaveSherva
@DaveSherva 5 месяцев назад
It wont spread unless you let the wheat go to seed. It would eventually die out. It will get real tall though.

don't know if you still reply, have an old dog, wanted to do this for indoors but would like to have 2-3 2ft long seeding trays and to plant them on top soil, just wondering if you have any info on anymore seeds or containers suitable, as for the seeds you listed is out of stock right now
@DaveSherva
@DaveSherva 5 месяцев назад
You can purchase Winter wheat or barley at a feed store for cheap. Use cookie sheets to plant on. Soak the grains for a day or two until they start to sprout then spread on cookie sheet. No soil needed. Just keep it moist. Might want to look up growing fooder for livestock.

Truthfully, I disagree. Not sure buying seeds from a middle man is the most ideal source, especially when they cannot guarantee the seed lot age/collection date.

You need to start with young birds and train them with food. Always keep a few birds in the main cage. I'd start with homing pigeons if this is your first time with pigeons. Rollers can be tricky.

Sonakebaters are small quail-like gamebirds native to Africa and Asia, they are known for their black-and-white colored chins, a white stripe above their eyes, large black patches on their chest, and pinkish-white legs, they constitute the genus Chrysortyx with two extant species: the Rain Sonakebater (Chrysortyx coromandelicus) and the Harlequin Sonakebater (Chrysortyx delegorguei), despite being also known as black-breasted quails, tragopan quails, stripe-headed quails, or golden quails, sonakebaters are not quails at all, they are more closely related to tragopans than they are to true quails, like tragopans (genus Tragopan), sonakebaters (genus Chrysortyx) belong to the tribe Tragopanini in the subfamily Lophophorinae within the family Phasianidae inside the superfamily Phasianoidea, the rain sonakebater has three subspecies: the Indian Rain Sonakebater (Chrysortyx coromandelicus coromandelicus), the Burmese Rain Sonakebater (Chrysortyx coromandelicus burmensis), and the Thai Rain Sonakebater (Chrysortyx coromandelicus siamensis) and the Harlequin Sonakebater (Chrysortyx delegorguei) has three subspecies: the Arabian Harlequin Sonakebater (Chrysortyx delegorguei arabicus), the Common Harlequin Sonakebater (Chrysortyx delegorguei delegorguei), and the São Tomé Harlequin Sonakebater (Chrysortyx delegorguei histrionicus).

that is false. there are no such thing as sonakebaters and those are obviously quail.
@indyreno2933
@indyreno2933 2 месяца назад
@natechampion9863, no it is not, the only true partridges and true quails are both those of the superfamily Perdicoidea, there is such thing as a sonakebater Sonakebaters are any gamebird of the genus Chrysortyx, there are two species of sonakebater: the Rain Sonakebater (Chrysortyx coromandelicus) and the Harlequin Sonakebater (Chrysortyx delegorguei), despite common english names, they are not quails at all, the official closest living relatives of the sonakebaters (genus Chrysortyx) are the tragopans (genus Tragopan), both constitute the tribe Tragopanini, which is part of the subfamily Lophophorinae that also includes another tribe called Lophophorini constituted by both the monals (genus Lophophorus) and the yejakuns (genus Tetraophasis) True Partridges (subfamilies Dendrortyginae and Perdicinae) and true quails (subfamilies Odontophorinae and Coturnicinae) both constitute the superfamily Perdicoidea, which is further split into the families Odontophoridae of the New World and Perdicinae of the Old World

I can't imagine they survive winter but it didn't look like someone grew it or released it, it looked wild. Anyway I couldn't believe my eyes. We have real mantids here in Minnesota! @dave hello, I have a female and male ringed necked dove. They have laid eggs two times now but after 20 days or so they will abandon the nest. I’ve opened the eggs then to find the eggs were never even developing. What could be the problem? The temperature inside the house? Thank you so much, an answer is greatly appreciated.
@DaveSherva
@DaveSherva Год назад
Couple of questions, how old are they? How sure are you that you have a male a female? The only real way to tell the difference between sex is the behavior. Do they share sitting on the eggs? I'm just wondering if you have two females.
