2:19 They could have done the realistic version and it could have worked, you just have to lean haaaard. Is it dark? Make it dark. Make Peter Pan a dark story, because there are some dark undertones.
Is it just me or the universal Capt Hook is sooooooooooo hot I can't. 7:00 Captain Hook in the original is already sympathetic enough because in the original Peter cut Captain Hook's hand and then fed it to the croc. The croc likes the taste and wants more also capt is holding a clock when peter do the cutting that's why the croc is ticking like a clock
Good lord. I’m all for empowering women and being a democratic socialist but changing caring motherly characters just so they can be girl bosses is just sad and wrong.
The 2003 Peter Pan captured the true essence of the books in a way no other Peter Pan rendition really has. It fills me with a nostalgic sadness and longing, just like the book does. It is thoughtful, whimsical, beautiful, and wise. I ADORE how the 2003 movie uses so many of the lines from the book, word for word, and captures it all so perfectly. The book speaks to me very personally since it is, in its truest sense, a story about a young girl who is in the process of growing up. She is at the cusp of her womanhood, but she is still a child, desiring childish things, yet longing for more. A more she doesn't yet understand. There is allure in the excitement and energy of youth (Peter Pan embodies this), but there are things that perpetual youth, that silly boys, can't provide. Peter Pan cannot possibly ever give Wendy what she truly desires, and they both know it in the end. It's a tragic love story, but it isn't necessarily about a boy and a girl. It's about the ending of a relationship that a girl holds with her younger self. A farewell to youth. The new movie didn't capture any of that. The director had a gross misunderstanding of what the book was about.
I just realized! Was there another movie which titled "Pan"? Right? And it didn't get that much of love because of something (forgot what it was) but seeing the disney "Peter Pan 2023" version, and comparing it side by side, the "Pan" version kind of was fun, but this one (especially Wendey) is so obnoxious, hollow, and a wannabe awesome.
I watched a q&a video with Jeremy Stumper and he said that he really liked the actress who played Wendy irl. And the chemistry u see in the movie between them was actually real. I love the 2003 version way better❤
The 2003 one is good because it adapts hook’s left hand, in many adaptations hook has his hook on his right hand but in this one they adapt it in the left hand, like in the book
Even if I haven’t watched the 2003 version yet, the trailer made you want to see all of it thanks to Coldplay playing in the background 😅 I remember owning a VHS movie tape and that Peter Pan trailer showed up like wow 🤩
I just don’t think including girls in the Lost Boys was a good move. I always liked the fact that it pointed out that girls were better than boys at being responsible (hence why Wendy can get them all in check)
I grew up with both the 1953 and the 2003 versions of Peter Pan and I loved them both. To be honest, I actually thought the 2003 Peter Pan was Disney's live-action remake, because it basically hit the same notes as the 1953 version. Yet they were both different enough to be unique. And I will not lie, Hook getting eaten by the crocodile was one of the coolest villain defeats in my childhood.
I never see Peter Pan 2023 film and thank goodness I didn't. I watched so many times the 2003 version in VHS and I loved so many times. I need to see it again now
Wow someone actually remembers the 03 version. I distinctly remember everyone giving it shit for years but now people are finally putting respect on it
One of the big things of the novel and old movie is about Wendy's femininity and how that naturally complements and contrasts with Peter and why ultimately she can say no to never land and why they all leave.
There being 'lost girls' on Nederland could have been easily explained. They were the girls Peter brought to Nederland before but got bored with them and just left them there. See? Easy fix.
You've pointed out every single argument I had in my head. In particular, the part where you say: "Wendy being the mother of the group was an excellent contrast to Tiger Lily, who's an established warrior, and Tinker Bell, who acts like a child." OH MY GOSH, YES! Finally! Wendy has always been my favorite character because kindness is not a weakness. Strength comes in many forms, as do strong female characters. If they really wanted the line "I'm not even sure I want to be a mother" in the 2023 movie, Tiger Lily was right there! She would've been perfect for that line! As a child, I loved the contrast between the girls. It showed me there are many ways "to be," and they are all equally valid. As a mother, I respect Wendy even more-if that was even possible! Oh my, you need the thickest skin and the best of patience for that role, even when they are behaving well. I love how the 2003 version showed her strength while staying true to the kind of strength she portrays. I could go on, but you explained everything perfectly in your video. Thank you!
the 2023 Wendy and Peter feels like they are running 2 stories at once, Wendy's time on the island and peters time on the island instead it should feel like Peter and Wendy
forgot how romantic the 03 version was lol it's a good thing, it has everything Peter Pan is meant to be but they did the Wendy/Peter connection much better than even the original.z You even have the need and want to know what happened to them in the future. The ending was great and satisfying but the ability to still leave you wanting more but at the same time being content if there's no more, that's pretty darn amazing
lol i know this is about peter pan 2003 & the disney's whack version of 2023, but the 2003 one is the most accurate, but for me personally, I like Robin William's Hook adaptation of the series. Its just so good & really hits the childhood hard.
I fell in love with the 2003 version!!!!!! I am sorry but the 2023 just gave me a headache, because I felt it was more about Wendy then Peter. And Peter Pan wasn't that intriguing and the acting was eh.
I bet its because everyone just wants to be in with the feminism movement, which is way too saturated nowadays its getting irrelatable. Like why should women always be angsty, powerful, leaders. Im not saying thats bad. But why reject everything else that makes a woman a woman. I mean girls are different, we should capture that. Everyone just makes everything with girls as girl bosses or hard and strong, even though it doesnt really fit with the story or concept. Its so fucking annoying. And then they make boys submissive or passive like peter pan here. I see it everywhere, like wheres the authenticity if they just make girls as girlbosses just for the sake of portraying "girl power" or "feminism".
I had always loved the 2003 version. I was about the same age as the actors when it came out and I felt like I could be in the story myself. At that point in my life, I always hated how Wendy left Peter to grow up. When I did finally grow up, and had put on the film after being through a rough situation-ship, I finally got it. Sometimes the people we love to spend and share our lives with aren’t on the same page- and that’s ok. That movie is a generational triumph for me. I won’t even bother watching the reboot no one asked for
Disney said: we have a character that was a sweet, kind, young lady who is also caring and a mother figure but she was also proved to be able to have a more fun side to her character. Nahh now she is a girlboss but also no one really gets why or her at all. And here is the other female character who was established for years to be sassy, creative, full of emotion and also trying to be helpfull and good at heart and etc. let's wash it all out and make her more of a prop who mostly... is there i guess... also make her black because we need diversity also remember Peter Pan? Let's make him a bigger jerk than he ever was and also make his character less likeable and have no sense. remember the evil villain? He's not that evil, I mean he is but he is somewhat sowwy and that will fix things to sum up the movie, they made the whole neverland and all the character hit a new low. They wanted to make them what they never were but they also had no idea how to make it work out atleast a bit not every story needs to be girlpower bs, hollywood and disney too, learn to make less but better
I cringed when watching 2023's. But I watched with my 8yo and she loved Wendy and Tiger Lilly and it makes me wonder if I'm missing the importance of representation. Watching your video makes me confirm I'm right to be cringed. There are many more elemments to storytelling than representation
