linktr.ee/dandysfarm HI! My name is Dan Reding and I am a teacher, a maker, a gardener, and a role player. This channel will be a representation of all of my interests.
I will also post my videos of Dandy's Farm my urban farm experiment in South-West Los Angeles.
Heyaa, loved the energy🙌! I'm not really sure if it is the best time to ask but, I was wondering if I could help you create a better distribution by working on post-production like better storytelling through Edits, Keywords, think catchy intros and outros, or even some engaging short clips! Would love to chat if you're interested and keep creating good content:)
You think AMAZON is authentic? You know a Trillionaire Oligarch owns Amazon, and Union Busts, and fights to k eep wages low. why didn't you go to a locally owned Garden Store and buy it?
I should have added a /s to my comment in the video. I do not think the tools was authentic. I buy cheap first, and if I like the tools I will get a better one later.
My mom has a garden like this. My neighbors were a little mean at first but now they all want her fresh cilantro and full roses. (don’t ask me how she gets random things to grow harmoniously happy!)
My Dad would engrave his drivers license number on every tool, bike, you name it. They couldn’t sell them that way and for years things would keep coming back to him when the police would call about “lost” items.
Ah yes. Perfectly mowed grass is the epitome of a slice of yard. Monoculture and the death of insects and habit is truly the American goal. Anything else is bad! Well said.
How do you like these? I have made them from aluminum done on a laser, but I’m thinking exotic wood cards might be nice. I’m lucky enough to have a SM 19/38 so she needs some more use haha
Yeah, I am slowly coming to that realization. Or, what was useful when you started a hobby, doesn't stay useful as your skills and tools improve and its ok to change it.
Wow. Great job indeed. I wish I could grow different types of berries here in Pakistan but the only seeds I can get here is strawberries probably because they have more Commercial value in our market. I would be so thankful if someone is able to provide help/guide in this regard.
I think as long as you wash them, you should be fine. It's not like the berries themselves are exposed for more than a day or two. Any contamination would be on the surface. And if the exposure was damaging the plant or causing it harm, then the blueberries just wouldn't be growing and the plant would be visibly unhealthy. And Im no botanist, but I would imagine that even if the plant was being exposed and affecting the blueberries, it would just result in lower quality berries, and not necessarily contaminated berries.
Good point. My understanding is that the slight amount of heavy metals picked up by plants are not stored in their fruits. If anything it would be the dust on the fruits that may have lead. Washing fruits and veg are the best way to avoid it. My garden is only another 10 feet back from the road so washing before eating is a must in urban Los Angeles!
So for context I'm not a botanist but my partner is one and that's how we met, so we talk about plants for like an hour a day on average. My partner always strongly advises against eating plants that grow up less than 5 meters away from a road (unless it's a desert road of course). I'd that 15 feet? Not sure about the maths. The ability to store heavy metal seems to depend on the species more than anything, so I wouldn't know about blueberries in particular. That being said if your garden is so near road maybe try and get data about what species do absorb heavy metals, since those are bad even in small amounts. Fruit are indeed contaminated, and if my understanding is correct that they take it from the soil just like they would any minerals / nutrient, then my bet would be that they concentrate it in the fruit just like they do the rest of the nutrients. It's advised not to harvest the roots or leaves when a plant is growing its flowers and then its fruit, because the root gets so small and unusable and the leaves lose nutrients as well. Basically a plant process is that it uses photosynthesis and its roots to get nutrients, stores it all in its roots (some plants do that for a whole year) then gives everything to the flower and fruit because well, reproduction, we all need to maximise our chances don't we. For your kitchen garden, maybe you could grow a hedge that could act as a barrier and absorb heavy metals before it gets to your garden. Choosing a species that is not edible, likes heavy metals and of course not putting its parts into a compost. Edit: removed a negation that wasn't supposed to be there
Man that's so awesome, someone near me has a communal passion fruit tree and it really brightens our day, I bet ur blueberry's brighten everyone's day!! Edit: bush, not tree!
I did not design it. Here is the link. Coffee separation is an interesting idea. Let me know if it works! www.printables.com/model/135470-4-gravity-cyclone-separator
All those dangling wires definitely add to the atmosphere and elegance of your shop. Not to mention the fire hazard with them being close to an 800 watt chandelier
Thanks for your positivity! The wires above are from my LED shop lights. I agree they could be better arranged. The chandelier has 18 bulbs that are 8.5 watts max each and I run them at 30% for a total of around 40 watts.
@dandysfarm don't take it to heart, i was just funnin. At least you have a shop, that of which I don't. I just have a garage full of crap that I don't need. Keep on keepin on.
Honestly? Not good. I had issues with a bent pin holding the outfeed bed and a stripped set screw when leveling the bed. After multiple service calls I ended up returning it. I picked up a Grizzly G0959 used on Craigslist and I love it.
Is the card being placed into a plainer to make a smooth finish or is it another laser engraver ? I’m not slow or stupid but genuinely curious 🤔 I don’t mean to make myself look dumb by asking a question
Yep, exactly on both accounts. Please ask questions. I was trying out the drum sander to sand out the burns instead of the handheld sander. I don't know that it worked any better, but it looked really cool and I wanted to share it.
I have in the past, but my cnc is difficult to tram so it leaves large gouges. I find running it for longer with more passes on a smaller bit let's me get away from an out-of-plane bit surface.
