Thanks for the great video! Buying a HC1 Happier Camper soon! Can you tell me the name of the blue storage box you have on the trailer hitch? Looks like a perfect addition.
I love this series, Jennifer! While I do think it is sad that dealers don’t know A LOT and we have to be our own experts with any rig we consider, I think it is a benefit for us to know everything we can find out before purchasing and getting out on the road! Thank you for educating us! ❤
What beautiful places to visit and what fun traveling as a couple! ❤ I think your style of camping / glamping is exactly what Hubby and I are going to embark on. So…what was the deal with the camper shower? Inquiring minds wanna know! 😂❤ Mike looks great with his short Santa beard! 🎅🏻 Someone said distinguished - I agree!
Lots of helpful info about basics must haves in the HC1. I love that your vizsla and GSP are with you full time. We’re trying to work our way up to taking all 3 dogs on our weekend trips in the HC1.
Just found your channel. I have a Great Dane mix and am thinking about getting either the Studio or the Traveler. Thanks for all the great info and your dog is adorable :D
Sorry for you loss ❤ I just found your channel a few weeks ago so have been binge watching. You do a great job, so great, that me and my wife are at least in early planning on “possibly” getting and HC1. Like you, we’ve never towed or camped but it is always something I’ve wanted to do as I love being outside and landscape photography as a hobby. I look forward to hearing about this Canada trip, congratulations on that and good luck.
Thank you! I just dropped a video comparing the HC1 packages that HC is offering right now so hopefully that info is helpful. If you have any specific questions, just let me know and I will do my best to answer!
Great info. I may include gas/charger spots. Our Escape is good for 400 - 500 km when towing. Wind & grades dictate which . 400 k equates to 4 hours @ 65 mph. . You would really enjoy Heads smashed in Buffalo Jump ( yes that’s its name) it’s a Unesco world heritage site. Great insight to how First Nations of the prairie used the land to sustain their people. Safe travels.
Good points, a little whiney. I am a member of HH w/golf. Not paying any host in advance with credit card. Probably don't agree with $30 donation as requirement.
I've lived FT in my Class A RV for remote work/travel since Jan 2017 and stay static for the most part once I find a place I like. So I bought a small teardrop for spontaneous travel because of the hassle of pulling up everything on the Class A and the cost of gas for a 6 mpg vehicle. I cancelled my HH because you can't have a camper with no black tank for any HH property. Forget that I do have an onboard freshwater/gray system and a standalone camping toilet and shower/toilet/changing tent. They don't care. So I go to BLM, state/natl/regional/city parks and use HipCamp instead.
we had both and only used it oonce in a year, so we cancelled the memberships, and you are the first channel I have seen that has a Happier Camper, I have followed them on IG for years
I'm guessing they would say the upcharge for the middle tier goes toward the administration of the systems. I'm off the road now, but I started seeing places DEMANDING that you make a donation in order to stay (in their profile). I skipped them completely, and began to really stop receiving value for my membership fee, in addition to having a hard time finding a spot for the night. It's definitely not what it used to be.
Thanks. I have been contemplating purchasing HH plus Boondockers. But maybe not now. I don't want confusion. If I have to pay $30 I'll go to a state park. Most charge $25 a night.
The Boondockers community was really fantastic so it may be worth it to try for a year and see if that portion on the membership works for you. Those hosts will not expect a 'donation' unless you ask to use their power or water.
Great points. I haven’t really used any of them but pay for it all. 😜. There is a an overhead for both harvest hosts and boondockers welcome for the company and software/employees/advertising/. I don’t have a problem with them monetizing the use of the system, the maps and the reservations, etc. The company has the same overhead for Harvest Hosts and Boondocker welcome. It’s also the same on the host side. Boodockers welcome might be more willing to take free campers, but I’m not sure anybody should be expected to take free campers. There is some overhead on the host site. It’s definitely complicated but I think people should tip or gift hosts a small gift as you did. Too many campers are just doing it for a free place to stay I think. Like Walmart! If I had a business I’d be annoyed why would they go through hassle of hosting if campers aren’t going to thank them with anything relevant. I feel like people also think the hosts get something from their membership- which they do not.
Well... I'd say - not exactly on the tech. I'm making some assumptions here, but I assume that they consolidated their digital footprint when they combined the companies. Yes they are retaining the domains but those aren't expensive. Whatever platforms they are using for account management, transaction processing, etc - those will have been migrated to one vs. maintaining two. So the overhead should definitely have been reduced on the tech side. When you merge companies, you also consolidate, particularly on the corporate functions. The brands aren't unique enough that you need two totally separate sales teams either... and now it's one marketing budget so that should also be reduced. I am strongly in favor of HH being a viable business and making money, but the pricing seems - well let me say, not competitive. If there was an alternative product on the market, I think they'd need to relook at it. On the question of HH and paying it forward - I completely agree. Being able to support a small business is one of the best parts of the offering, in addition to the unique stays. But if you are a newbie and look at the marketing materials and sign up, intending to support with a $30 when you can buy from the business but it ends up they don't offer anything to buy and instead you are suggested to make a 'donation'... That's the use case that I think is most problematic.
Hello, Happier Camper OG! I purchased a 2023 happier camper HC one studio and yes, I am still happy. However, I would like to know what is the secret to getting and keeping and maintaining hot water for the shower?
Hm - this is a question I haven't seen! Can you describe what's happening? If you start off with hot water and it dissipates, are you running out of propane?
@@jenniferpreston8365 once I am hooked up to electric and water at a campsite. I’ll then turn on the hot water heater for 30 minutes. Then I’ll begin taking a shower and the hot water disappears very quickly or runs out very quickly.
Which AC unit does your HCT have, and does it work well? I'm considering the Off-Grid Cooling Package primarily because the A/C is like 3-4 inches shorter than the standard, so I think it would fit under our 9-foot garage door. But unsure if its lower cooling capacity would matter.
Believe it or not, we didn't get the AC! I so regret that decision. We made it when we lived in the Northeast. Now we live in southern Louisiana and I can't think of a place where AC would be better. We did just buy a portable unit we are hopefully going to love - but excellent call on getting it installed from HC. I would also be getting the off grid version - we had one in the HC1 and the profile did ride high. I wouldn't worry about the cooling capacity. I've not had anyone report that it didn't do the job.
Hi Jennifer, I'm sorry for your loss. My sincerest condolences. It's good to see you and your content again. I really like what I know of the happier camper, but so little information is on RU-vid regarding it, compared to other RV's, factory tours, experiences, and issues good and bad. I've watched all of your videos and appreciate the time you have invested. Congrats on your retirement.
Oh Jennifer, I am so sorry for your immense loss. 😢 As I await the delivery of my HC1-S, I am so grateful for the time that you and Mike spent with me and my dog in Quincy, back in 2016, when we toured #44. Thanks again for your guidance this winter when I finally ordered my camper. Congratulations on your new home and HCT! I have been following “Sisters on the Fly” for over 10 years and have joined the group to meet up with women who camp. I’m very interested in tips on traveling solo, safety, tools to carry, apps, you name it. I bought the off-road package and any tips on solar, battery, and boondocking would be great. First steps to take, must-haves, how to protect and maintain the camper. I look forward to your upcoming videos and following your journey. Thank you for sharing it with us. ❤ Anne
It was absolutely our pleasure! We love letting people see these babies in person so they can really see themselves out there adventuring. And thanks for the ideas on topics that would help. And of course, thank you for your kindness. Not the life we expected but managing to learn to live with grief. <3
