I'm having a heck of a time introducing a 5 month old rescue kitten to my 12 yr old cat. I've tried every step and even after two weeks, my older cat is hissing like crazy at it. I still have the safe room for the kitten, and have only been able to progress to a child gate (two stacked) between them. I'm worried my older cat won't accept her...
Bro I just got a month old kitten why my older cat turned on everyone I can’t even take the little cat pass room and it’s hissing and now my older cat hisses and jumps at everyone and has never did 1 time since born
We got a kitten for our rescue kitten and they've already bonded. (right decision) but...my senior cat still has not accepted either. The youngest kitten, they can be in the same room but she will hiss at and sometimes paw at her (no claws though). Now with the rescued kitten.... For some reason, my senior cat has fear aggression towards her and they must remain separated still. We use our bedroom or a cat cage and are still working on it. This will not be a quick fix but we will keep working at it patiently. @@SaartjeandRufus
I was 11 years old that my family adopted our 2nd cat from being a stray. When he met our 1st cat that started to wrestle in the living room. They became friends instantly. We didn’t kept them in separate rooms. The 1st cat accepted the 2nd cat inside the home. The 2nd cat was more than my cat but, he did spread the love to other members of the family. Both cats were very sweet and friendly in their own different way.
Yes. My cat Tammy accepted cats into the home from the start, no issues whatso ever. She was a beautiful, gorgeous cat. The cat I have now wont tolerate the new cat and the new cat hates him . followed instructions on how to introduce them but no luck at all. This morning, massive cat fight, fur flying everywhere and the new cat only has 3 legs so i need to take extra care of her. Both now, locked in separate rooms. Its a nightmare!
Very nice! Happy to see your success. Thank you for sharing! I just went through this process. We adopted a shelter cat in November, 2022 and he seemed to need a friend so we adopted another shelter cat just last month (April 2023). They are both about 1 - 1-1/2 years old. We used the baby gate process; it took just over 2 weeks which included some supervised, short meetings in the same room. I think the time span is different for everyone. My existing cat was fairly nice, only hissing a little, but every time we let them spend a little time together, he got aggressive so we would end the session and just kept trying until he seemed more curious and willing to spend time together. I highly recommend the baby gates. I borrowed my sister's gate, but obviously cats can jump over that so I ordered a 40" gate from Amazon and we stacked them and tacked a small towel at the top opening at the door. After they had a few sessions together, we kept the door open when we were home. That helped the new one not feel so isolated and the existing cat would spend time looking into the room to see the intruder. The newest cat is the youngest, he came from a sanctuary where the cats roamed around together; he was very used to being with other cats. He works so hard (with respect) to win over our existing cat. They now both have the run of the house (condo). They play and clean each other on occasion. They are not friends yet, but at least we made it to the tolerant stage. Now my existing cat seems depressed so I'm trying to learn how to overcome this hurdle. I worked so hard to keep reinforcing love to my existing cat. Jackson says two are better than one; I am looking forward to the day I can say that.
You did an awesome job. I plan on doing something similar when we bring home a new rescue. Our cat is 14 months old or thereabout and misses company since our dog passed away. I really liked the shelves on the wall and have thought about doing that in my basement where I work. Let them get up high and to the windows
Heio! Thanks alot for your video. Im currently on day 5 introducing my new (12month) to my old (3year) cat bith female. They have since day 3 some together time while I'm watching and sometimes interrupt them with treats and play. It's nice to see some real videos like yours to kinda have a feeling whats normal behavior and what not. I'm always a bit scared of the hissing and little punches from my big cat (black RussianBlue mix), also my new cat is so tiny (full RB). Thanks alot. And thanks I could share my current state here :)!
Introduction of my resident 4 year old male cat, 8Ball, to our new female 4 year old rescue cat, Queenie, is still going slowly after 3 months.. He is not happy cause he still hisses and swats hard at the closed door.. He is definitely not being nice but gradually nicer than 3 months ago.. We have not put them together visually except thru a glass door.. He scratches hard on the glass door, growling a bit, wanting also to go onto our screened porch.. 8Ball had never seen another cat before even when he goes to the vet.. He has experienced squirrels, opossum, raccoons, deer, and birds when on our screened porch.. He loves watching them and sometimes acts predatory.. I’m guessing at this pace it may be another 3 months before they fall in love.. The worst we can do is believe that they will just work it out if we throw them into an unsupervised play date..
Adorableness! I think it might take other cats longer. If I were to get another cat Missy might have issues if its a kitten. Hmm you know I don't really know. Time will tell. I'm still pondering the kitten part.
Very well done I'm using the crate method also. Still a ways to go. I'm introducing a 7month old male to two older residents a 5 yo female and a 11 yo male so I have more moving parts.
I like to think when Jack went to get a look at Gerrit in the cage and Gerrit hissed at him, Jack was thinking "Why are you hissing at me for? This is MY house. You're the new guy here."
We just rescued a sweet girl shes been out our place almost a month now she had some fleas needed to quarantine her for a bit but now trying to introduce them its going ok. They can be around eachother but she is hesitant oh him due to the fact she was chased and cornered a lot by tom cats around the neighborhood im sure they will come around tho
My penny's worth. Never lock a cat in a wire prison and expect that cat to be secure. It creates a disadvantage when dominance may be a factor. Rather have a fence between 2 rooms where both cats are on equal footing.
As a cat whisper for some 20 years all I can say is that this is not the way to introduce cats . Please refer to Jackson Galaxy videos on TY as he is the most knowledgeable cat whisperer on the net. This method shown here is not to be followed if you want your cats to have a friendship that is long-term and minimal stress.
I'm 5 days in theyve sniffed at each other through door. Established cats really curious new cat isn't liking him at all. I'm going to leave it another few days and keeping feeding them on either side of door. I dont want them stressed. This looks like a video of 2 stressed cats that ended with 2 stressed cats with Established distance.
The way I introduced my cat with my roommates is that I just let them hang out together yea at first my cat was hissing and being a btch but after a few times now they play together yea sometimes she might hiss but it’s because the other cat always wants to play 😂 plus he’s neutered and she’s not so idk if that makes a difference
With my family we had 2 red tabby cats that were adopted a little bit over 2 years from each other. Our first cat was so laid back and even easygoing. That cat got along with our 2nd cat that they became best friends with each other really quickly. Now that my sister has 2 cats that they became buddies less than a week.
