Things that can fly are just fighting against gravity just like you when you jump, gravity is pulling you down yet you still go up. Airborne animals just developed body parts light and big enough to be able to push of the air like you push of of water while swimming.
Bugs swim through air, more than they fly through it. I don't think people have an issue imagining that locomotion in the ocean could have evolved progressively.

This is in regards to naturalistic evolution. Can it explain DNA, Birds flying, intelligence. I have studied cell biology, evolution and philosophy for a long time & I think macroevolution does not have the evidence it claims to have

Fellow Christian, the pterodactyl was on the earth around 100 million years ago. The answers to flight probably are explained there. The existence of God doesn't disprove math, physics or evolution. However, a world without God destabilizes math, physics and evolution. As a Christian our goal is to love the disbeliever, not disprove them. Loving them, means accepting them and what they believe, because it's true to them. The logic of Christ's ideals best communicated in the language of Love. Evolution is generally weak when it comes to laying out details for its claims. I think what you're getting at is, how exactly does an organism in the water or on the ground develop the ability to fly?
